  • Thin film solar cells are growing up in the market due to their high efficiency and low cost. Especially CdTe and $CuInGaSe_2$ based solar cells are leading the other cells, but due to the limited percentage of the elements present in our earth's crust like Tellurium, Indium and Gallium, the price of the solar cells will increase rapidly. Copper Zinc Tin Sulfide (CZTS) and Copper Zinc Tin Selenide (CZTSe) semiconductor (having a kesterite crystal structure) are getting attention for its solar cell application as the absorber layer. CZTS and CZTSe have almost the same crystal structure with more environmentally friendly elements. Various authors have reported growth and characterization of CZTSe films and solar cells with efficiencies about 3.2% to 8.9%. In this study, a novel method to prepare CZTSe has been proposed based on selenization of stacked Copper Selenide ($Cu_2Se$), Tin Selenide ($SnSe_2$) and Zinc Selenide (Zinc Selenide) in six possible stacking combinations. Depositions were carried out through RF magnetron sputtering. Selenization of all the samples was performed in Close Space Sublimation (CSS) in vacuum at different temperatures for three minutes. Characterization of each sample has been performed in Field Emission SEM, XRD, Raman spectroscopy, EDS and Auger. In this study, the properties and results of $Cu_2ZnSnSe_4$ thin films grown by selenization will be presented.

  • Porous Cu-14 wt% Co with aligned pores is produced by a freeze drying and sintering process. Unidirectional freezing of camphene slurry with CuO-Co3O4 powders is conducted, and pores in the frozen specimens are generated by sublimation of the camphene crystals. The dried bodies are hydrogen-reduced at 500℃ and sintered at 800℃ for 1 h. The reduction behavior of the CuO-Co3O4 powder mixture is analyzed using a temperature-programmed reduction method in an Ar-10% H2 atmosphere. The sintered bodies show large and aligned parallel pores in the camphene growth direction. In addition, small pores are distributed around the internal walls of the large pores. The size and fraction of the pores decrease as the amount of solid powder added to the slurry increases. The change in pore characteristics according to the amount of the mixed powder is interpreted to be due to the rearrangement and accumulation behavior of the solid particles in the freezing process of the slurry.

  • In order to improve the bioactivity and mechanical properties of hydroxyapatite (HAp), chitosan (Chi) was in situ combined into HAp to fabricate a composite scaffold by a sublimation-assisted compression method. A highly porous film with sufficient mechanical strength was prepared and the bioactivity was investigated by examining the apatite formed on the scaffolds incubated in simulated body fluid. In addition, the cytotoxicity of the HAp/Chi composite was studied by evaluating the viability of murine fibroblasts (L-929 cells) exposed to diluted extracts of the composite films. The apatite layer was assessed using scanning electronic microscopy, inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry and weight measurement. Composite analysis showed that a layer of micro-sized, needle-like crystals was formed on the surface of the composite film. Additionally, the WST-8 assay after L-929 cells were exposed to diluted extracts of the composite indicated that the HAp/Chi scaffold has good in vitro cytocompatibility. The results indicated that HAp/Chi composites with porous structure are promising scaffolding materials for bone-patch engineering because their porous morphology can provide an environment conductive to attachment and growth of osteoblasts and osteogenic cells.

  • Recently, thiophene oligomer with short chain lengths has received much attention as model compounds for facilitating better understanding of electronic and optical properties of polymers, because oligomer is well-defined chemical systems and its conjugation chain length can be exactly controlled. Moreover, organic this films based on conjugated thiophene oligomer have potential for application to electronic and optoelectronic devices such as MISFETs(metal-insulator-semiconductor field-effect transistors) and LEDs(light-emitting diodes). However, there is little knowledge on electronic and structural properties of linear-conjugated oligothiophenes in solid states, compared with those in solutions. $\alpha$-sexithienyl($\alpha$-6T) thin-films were deposited by OMBD(Organic Molecular Beam Deposition) technique, where the $\alpha$-6T was synthesized and purified by the sublimation method. The $\alpha$-6T films were deposited under various conditions. The effects of deposition rate, substrate temperature, and vacuum pressure on the formation of these films have been studied. The molecules in the $\alpha$-6T film deposited at a low deposition rate under a high vacuum were aligned almost perpendicular to the substrate. The $\alpha$-6T films deposited at an elevated substrate temperature showed higher conductivity than the film deposited at room temperature. Electrical characterization of these films will be also executed by using four-point probe measurement technique.

  • Although the structure of carbon nanotubes is important factor characterizing its properties, it is very difficult to control the structure of carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) and to predict the range of their diameter, which is the primary factor of MWNTs' physical properties. We tried to control the diameter of MWNTsby governing the feed injection temperature of floating catalyst method. The structure of MWNTs was influenced by the phase change of ferrocene fed as the catalyst,. The carbon nanotubes were very narrow at injection temperatures close to the sublimation pt. of ferrocene, in which most MWNTs had diameters in the range of 20$^{\sim}$30 nm. At injection temperatures between the boiling pt. and melting pt. of ferrocene, the diameters became larger and had broad distribution. However, at injection temperatures higher than the boiling pt., the diameters became narrow again and had very uniform distribution.

  • 2,3,4,5-Tetrafluorobenzoic acid, an important intermediates of fluoroquinolone antibiotics, was synthesized from tetrachloride phthalic anhydride through imidation, fluorination, hydrolysis and decarboxylation. The effects of phase transfer catalyst on imidation and fluorination reaction and the effects of surfactants on the hydrolysis reaction were studied, respectively. Experimental results showed that the imidation reaction time was greatly reduced in the presence of a phase transfer catalyst, hexadecyltrimethyl, resulting in imidation yield as high as 98.2%. The fluorination yield reached 81.3% when tetrabutylammonium bromide was chosen as a phase transfer catalyst. The hydrolysis reaction time was also decreased by adding hexadecyltrimethyl while increasing the yield to 88.6%. In the post-processing, the sublimation method was used to purify the product, and ideal effect was obtained. In the decarboxylation reaction, tetrafluoride phthalic acid was obtained by decarboxylation in the solvent of tri-n-butyl amine and decarboxylation yield reached 81.6%. Compared with the literature method, the overall reaction time of the improved method decreased from 53 h to 20.5 h and the total yield increased from 47.3% to 57.4%.

  • $\alpha$-Sexithiophene ($\alpha$-6T) thin films were deposited by organic molecular beam deposition (OMBD) technique. The $\alpha$-6T was synthesized and purified by the sublimation method. The thin films of the $\alpha$-6T were deposited under various deposition conditions. The effects of deposition rate, substrate temperature, and vacuum pressure on the formation of these films have been studied. The molecular orientation, crystallinity, and surface morphology of $\alpha$-6T films were investigated with angle-resolved UV/visible absorption spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry (XRD), and atomic force microscopy (AFM). It was found that the crystalline structure of $\alpha$-6T films was monoclinic and independent uppon substrate temperature, deposition rate, and deposition pressure. On the other hand, the $\alpha$-6T molecules in the film deposited at a low deposition rate, higher substrate temperature, and under a high vacuum tended to be aligned perpendicular to the substrate.

  • The primary purpose of this study is to provide a useful insight for developing effective teaching and student counseling methods by understanding the relationship between four preference patterns of MBTI personality types and EWHA defense mechanisms of nursing college students. Method: The data used in this research were collected administrating EWHA defense mechanism test and MBTI personality type instrument to 195 nursing students in the period of November 3 through September 16 in 2000. Collected data were analysed by pc-SPSS 10.0. Result: Three general conclusions were drawn from the study results: (1) in terms of personality type, 'Extraversion', 'Sensing', 'Thinking', and 'Judgement' types showed high frequency respectively; (2) in terms of defense mechanism, 'Identification' showed the highest score, and then 'suppression' scored next followed by 'Humor'. However, 'Acting out' showed the lowest average score, and then 'Projection' followed by 'Denial'; (3) Based on the relationship between defense mechanism and four MBTI preference patterns, it can be drawn that students with the preference of 'Extraversion' usually use defense mechanism of 'Altruism', 'Sublimation', 'Distortion', 'Controlling', and 'Humor'. In comparison, students with the preference of 'Introversion' often use the defence mechanism of 'Evasion' and 'Projection'. Conclusion: The study results can be utilized in both fields of education and counseling: (1) in the field of education, this study can provide a basis for developing a suitable teaching method for each personality types of nursing students; (2) for counseling practitioners, the results of this study provide the useful insights to understand nursing college students' communication skills, behavior patterns, and ability of coping with problems in the process of counseling.
