입각기.유각기 동시제어식 대퇴의지의 개발 (Development of a Stance and Swing Phase Control Transfemoral Prosthesis)

  • In this study, a transfemoral prosthesis system of which both stance phase and swing phase are controllable has been developed for the recovery of the biomechanical function of the amputated leg. It consists of a 5 bar link mechanism, a hydraulic-rubber knee damper for stance phase control and a pneumatic cylinder controlled via a microprocessor for stance phase control. The mechanical characteristics of the knee damper which absorbs the impact energy generated at the heel contact were investigated. The characteristics of the pneumatic cylinder essential for the speed adaptation of the prosthesis during swing phase were also studied for its mechanical characteristics. The prosthesis was subject to the clinical tests, and the gait characteristics obtained were very close to those of normal subjects. The stance and swing controlled prosthesis that were developed in this study showed good stability during the stance phase and showed good controllability during the swing phase.

링크드 데이터 방식을 통한 서지 정보의 확장에 관한 연구 (Extending Bibliographic Information Using Linked Data)

  • 본 연구에서는 서지 정보를 확장하기 위한 방안으로 링크드 데이터를 선정하였다. 링크드 데이터는 웹 공간을 통해 공유 가능한 식별기호와 데이터 구조 및 링크 정보를 제공하기 때문이다. 특히 링크드 데이터는 서지 온톨로지와 결합하여 서지데이터를 확장시키는데 유용하다. 이에 링크드 데이터와 서지 온톨로지를 분석하고, 연계 가능한 링크드 데이터를 검토하였다. 그리고 이를 바탕으로 링크드 데이터로 구축된 기존의 전거 데이터 및 서지 데이터를 연계하였다. 이러한 실험적 연계를 통해 향후 링크드 데이터를 효과적으로 활용하기 위한 과제를 도출할 수 있었다. 즉, 1) 다양한 링크드 데이터 중에서 각 기관에서 적합한 데이터를 선정할 수 있어야 하며, 2) 선정된 링크드 데이터를 연계하기 위한 기준을 정립해야 하고, 마지막으로 3) 자관의 고유한 데이터를 개발하여 이를 다시 공유해 나가야 할 것을 제안하였다.

  • For an increased level of productivity, it is important that the end-point of a robot manipulator moves from an initial location to final position in the minimum time subject to the available maximum actuator's torque (or force) at each joints. The main issue is to develop an algorithm to compute the actuators in real-time. In this paper, a digital state feedback control algorithm has bean developed to obtain the near-minimum-time trajectory for the end-effector of a robot manipulator. In this algorithm, the poles of the linearized closed loop system are judiciously placed in the Z-plane to permit minimum-time response without violating the constraints on the actuator torques. The validity of this algorithm have been established using numerical simulations. A three-link manipulator in chosen for this purpose and results are discussed for three different combinations of initial and final station.

비연결 수행 이동컴퓨팅 태스크의 성능 분석 (Performance Analysis of Disconnected Operation on Mobile Computing)

  • 무선 네트웍을 포함하는 이동컴퓨팅에서는 무선 통신망의 특성상 잦은 끊김과 높은 에러율 때문에 비연결시에도 수행을 계속할 수 있는 기능이 필요하다. 이러한 이동컴퓨팅 환경에서 비연결 수행기능을 제공하기 위해 많은 개념과 이론들이 제안되었다. 본 논문에서 이동 컴퓨팅 환경에서 비연결 수행상태를 포함한 태스크의 평균 수행시간을 분석하였다. 비연결 수행 태스크는 데이터 호딩(Data Hoarding), 비연결 수행(Disconnected operation), 블록(Block)의 3가지 상태로 분리할 수 있다. 이러한 3가지 상태에서 여러 가지 입력 파라메터들(에러율(Error rate), 재연결율(Recovery rate), 태스크 수행 중지 확률(Stop rate), 로깅 오버헤드(Logging overhead), 호딩 오버헤드(Hoarding overhead), 재연결 오버헤드(Reintegration overhead))들이 비연결 수행 태스크 성능에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 이러한 분석을 통해서 통신망 단절을 고려한 이동컴퓨팅에서 보다 효과적인 태스크 수행기법을 선택할 수 있다.

Multiple Finger Expansion for Blind Interference Canceller in the Presence of Subchip-Spaced Multipath Components

  • A blind interference canceller in the presence of subchipspaced multipath channels for direct-sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) down-link system is considered. This technique is based on combining the existing blind interference canceller with a technique that involves assigning subchip-tap spacing to the Rake receiver. The proposed receiver minimizes the receiver’s output energy subject to a constraint in order to mitigate the multiple access interference (MAI) along each multipath component, and then suboptimally combining all the multipath components. Moreover, it is able to mitigate the mismatch problem when subchip-spaced multipath components arrive at the blind interference canceller. It is known that optimal combining techniques perform a decorrelation operation before combining, which requires both knowledge and computational complexity. In the following, we have adopted a simpler but suboptimum approach in the combining of the suppressed signals at the output of our proposed receiver. Computer simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed receiver to handle subchip-spaced multipath components and still suppresses MAI significantly.

농촌지역 노인의 짠맛 기호도와 식습관 및 건강 위험인자와의 관계 (The Relationship between Dietary Behaviors/health Risk Factors and Preference for Salty Taste among Korean Elderly People Living in Rural Areas)

  • Objectives: Increasing salt preferences with age are said to increase preferences of salty foods, thereby leading to greater sodium consumption, which has further implication for hypertension. This study examined the link between preference of salty taste and dietary factors and health-related risk factors in Korean elderly people. Methods: We studied 312 elderly individuals aged > 65 years (male, 100 and female, 212). With each subject, pleasant concentration of NaCl was estimated using the sip-and-spit method. Dietary habits, food preferences, consumption frequencies, anthropometric and biochemical assessment were assessed. Results: The pleasant salt concentration was significantly increased in individuals older than 75 years (p < 0.05). Subjects who liked high concentration of salt showed significantly higher preferences for salty foods (p < 0.001). Results showed significant effects (p < 0.01) of fruit & fruit juice consumption frequencies, MNA (mini-nutritional assessment), cognition score, BMI, body fat %, waist circumference, arm circumference, calf circumference, vitamin D level that subjects who likes low salty taste were higher than subjects who likes high salty taste. Conclusions: The preference for salty taste in the elderly was not correlated with hypertension. But, increased preference for salty taste with age and increased salty food preferences may result in higher sodium consumption. Therefore, nutritional education regarding lowering salt preference and favorable behaviors of low-salt diet is needed to improve the quality of life in the rural elderly.

Video Segmentation and Video Segment Structure for Virtual Navigation

  • In recent years, the use of video in GIS is considered to be an important subject and many related studies result in VideoGIS. The virtual navigation is an important function that can be applied to various VideoGIS applications. For virtual navigation by video, the following problems must be solved. 1) Because the video route may be not exactly coincided with route that user wants to navigate, parts of several video clips may be required for single navigation. Virtual navigation should allow the user to move from one video to another at the proper position. We suggest the video segmentation method based on geographic data combined with video. 2) From a point to a destination, the change frequency of video must be minimized. The frequent change of video make user to mislead navigation route and cause the wasteful use of computing resource. We suggest methods that structure video segments and calculate weight value of each node and link.

Non-Fibrillar $\beta$-Amyloid Exerts Toxic Effect on Neuronal Cells

  • Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia and no cure is known so far. Extensive genetic works and in vitro experiments combined with clinical observations link amyloid $\beta$--protein (A$\beta$-) to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). It was hypothesized that $A\beta$- becomes toxic when it adopts a fibrillar conformation. Recently, non-fibrillar form of $A\beta$- was observed and the potential role in the pathogenesis of AD became an interesting subject. In this study, the cytotoxicity of non-fibrillar $A\beta$- and fibrillar $A\beta$- was compared on oxidative stress, membrane damage, or nucleosome break down. Non-fibrillar $A\beta$- was not toxic in peripheral nervous system-derived cells but significantly toxic in central nervous system-derived cells while fibrillar $A\beta$- was non-selectively toxic in both cell culture. The neurotoxicity of non-fibrillar $A\beta$- was reproduced in semi-in vivo culture of mouse brain slice. In conclusion, non-fibrillar $A\beta$- could be more relevant to the selective neurodegeneration in Alzheimer's brains than fibrillar $A\beta$- and further research needs to be done for identification of the cause of AD.

No-reference Sharpness Index for Scanning Electron Microscopy Images Based on Dark Channel Prior

  • Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) image can link with the microscopic world through reflecting interaction between electrons and materials. The SEM images are easily subject to blurring distortions during the imaging process. Inspired by the fact that dark channel prior captures the changes to blurred SEM images caused by the blur process, we propose a method to evaluate the SEM images sharpness based on the dark channel prior. A SEM image database is first established with mean opinion score collected as ground truth. For the quality assessment of the SEM image, the dark channel map is generated. Since blurring is typically characterized by the spread of edge, edge of dark channel map is extracted. Then noise is removed by an edge-preserving filter. Finally, the maximum gradient and the average gradient of image are combined to generate the final sharpness score. The experimental results on the SEM blurred image database show that the proposed algorithm outperforms both the existing state-of-the-art image sharpness metrics and the general-purpose no-reference quality metrics.
