  • This paper examines the characteristics of post-modern self-portrait photography. Characteristics of postmodernism associated with the "loss of centeredness," such as the death of the author, interdisciplinarity, and intertextuality, brought about a number of changes within the self-portrait. The distinction between post-modern and modern self-portraiture can be characterized by the following qualities: appropriation, the use of photography, and the utilization of the human body as an art. The characteristics of post-modern self-portrait photography can be represented through the works of Cindy Sherman, Orlan, and Morimura Yasumasa. By presenting prototypical women in her works, Cindy Sherman not only represents images of those women, but also exposes her fictitious role in the work. She creates a distance between herself in the works and herself in reality and discloses a paternalistic gaze. Meanwhile, Orlan transforms her face into a distorted image and presents it as an alternative identity that is representative of postmodernism. She corrodes the standard concept of identity through plastic surgery and treats the face not as a place where the identity stays, but as a simple body part or fragment of skin. Orlan's post-human face is malleable according to the artist's desire to raise the issue of what the human face is, and opposes the structure of modernism. Morimura Yasumasa also appropriates images from masterpieces and presents a hybrid identity between Eastern and Western, male and female, original and replica, and subject and object. In order to dissect social prejudice, he puts forth every single structural dichotomy that coexists in his self-portrait and suppresses a strong ego. He also studies the relationship between 'seeing' and being 'seen' by trading the painter's role from that of the subject to that of the object.

  • As today's "ninth art", role-playing games recognized by most players due to their surreal themes and sustained reflection on social diseases. Through precise control of story-telling and game visuals, players develop an avatar identification during role-playing game. Based on Lacan's mirror stage theory, a new self-identity mechanism is established under the guidance of role-playing games. As a "player", the subject's interpretation of himself is shifted by the game order, and the subject identifies with the role-playing game while at the same time being structured by the desire of role-playing game. The immersive experience and emotional guidance of role-playing games all point to the most instinctive human desires. The psychoanalytic theory from Lacan's perspective explains the source of players' desire, and the expression of players' desire in the game. It also plays an important role in the emotional rendering and identity aspects of role-playing games. This paper is to establish that role-playing games do have an impact on the player's self-identity through a Lacanian psychoanalytic reading of role-playing games.

  • For a field of research to be an independent area of study, there must be a common paradigm that is shared by the members of the community. In addition. for establishment of identity in a study, several relating scientific communities should actively study and research, which lead to a new paradigm. Efforts to accomplish this purpose are found in Politics, Economics, and Psychology. Yet, the field of Fire Service Science have not yield these results which include active scientific communities, scholars and experts who research on the subject and exchange their expertises. New paradigm for the field is not established yet. Therefore, this research probes the origins of these problems and suggests a proper scientific paradigm and direction for establishment of identity of Fire Service Science in Korea's ambiance.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate gender role identity and health behavior and to explore the relationship between gender role identity and health behavior among university student. Method: Participants were 245 university students who lived in Daegu. Each participant was administered the KGRII (Korean Gender Role Identity Inventory), and Healthy Life Style: A self-test provided by ODDHP National Health Information Center. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, ${\chi}^2$-test with SPSS 11.0 PC Program. Result: 1. As a result of health behavior level, male students had more health risk behavior problems than female students in smoking(p=.00) and drinking (p=.03). Female students had more health risk behavior problems than male students in exercise and physical activity(p=.00). 2. For female students, feminity type (29.3%) was most common, subjects of undifferentiated type was 26.4%. For male students, masculinity type(32.4%) was most prevalent, and androgenic type was 31.4%. 3. Androginy typed group had more healthy behavior compared with other gender role identity typed group. In contrast, undifferentiated typed group had more high risk behavior compared with other typed group for all of health behavior. Conclusion: These results suggest that gender role identity is a stronger predictor of heath related variable than is sex of subject. Therefore effect methods to develop health promotion program should consider not only sex difference but gender role identity.

  • Purpose: This study is to investigate if the effectiveness training program, suggested by Gordon(1970), could help these nursing students with the problems of interpersonal relationship and self-identification. Method: This study was designed using nonequivalent control group protest-posttest design. The subject for this study were thirty nursing students. Fifteen nursing students of the experimental group experienced the Effectiveness Training for 8 weeks (3 hours/week). The effect of Effectiveness Training was measured using Relationship Change Scale devised by Lee, H.D. & Moon, S.M.(1979) and Ego Identity Scale devised by Dignan(1965) which was translated by Seo, B.Y.(1975) Pretest data were collected by the researcher from both experimental and control group before training. After the end of eight weeks training, posttest data collected from both experimental and control group. Samples were analyzed using SPSS PC+. Result: 1. The first hypothesis, "level of interpersonal relationship of the experiment group after 8 weeks will be significantly higher than that of the control group"(z=-1.965, p=.049)was supported. 2. The second hypothesis, "level of ego-identity of the experimental group after 8 weeks will be significantly higher than that of the control group"(z=-2.191, p=.028)was supported. 3. The third hypothesis, "level of interpersonal relationship of the experiment group will be significantly higher than that of the control group after 4 months of training"(z=-.634, p=.238)was not supported. 4. The fourth hypothesis, "level of ego-identity of the experimental group will be significantly higher than that of the control group after 4 months of training"(z=-.292, p=.642)was not supported. Conclusion: The Effectiveness Training can be considered as an effective method of nursing students's interpersonal relationship & ego-identity, because it was proved to help nursing students increase level of their interpersonal relationship & ego-identity but it was needed to reinforce for continuing of the effect of the interpersonal relationship & ego-identity.

  • A matter of primary concern about all the design is concentrated on how to create more valuable things to allow people to live an affluent life. However, it is very difficult to achieve the goal because every design work is changed in accordance with given situations. Situations are changeable, so is design. There is no progress without change, but change is not necessarily progress. It is highly desirable that their changes be beneficial to mankind. Our main problem is to be able to discrimination between which should be discarded and that which should be kept, built and improved Viewed at this aspect, it is significant to study the relation between globalism and cultural identity of design, because every design has been constantly influenced by global trends and local characteristics. The paper is composed of four parts Introduction, Characteristic of global design, Cultural identity of design and Conclusion In Introduction, the purpose and background of the study are presented. In Chapter1. social back ground, multi-kinds smallproduction and new problems and searched. In Chapter2, vernacular design, transmission and propagation and tradition and innovation are considered. In Conclusion, some suggestive words on the subject are mentioned.
