Considering the fact that PCK(pedogogical content knowledge) tends to guarantee the identity of mathematics education as a discipline and the teacher professionalism, PCK is one of the core concepts in the research on subject matter education. The purpose of this study is to review domestic and international researches on the definition and the components of PCK in mathematics. Based on the review, this study identified 3 knowledges which consist PCK; knowedge of mathematic content, knowledge of learner's understanding, and knowledge of teaching. Then this study provided some examples of PKC in the topic, the limit of sequences, and introduced the LMT and TEDS-M items, which were designed to measure the teacher's PCK. Lastly, this study attempted to evaluate the items on mathematics education included in the Teacher Employment Test administered for pre-service/. teachers in Korea based on PCK.
As a follow-up study to identify references for threshold concepts in science, 20 high school chemistry teachers were interviewed. Seven concepts were identified as threshold concepts. The data revealed that teachers overcome the thresholds while they are teaching as well as learning during their school years. This explains that the mastery experience of threshold concepts involve not only the process of creating subject matter knowledge of a learner but also the reflection on or preparation for teaching. Hence, the current study proposes that a strong relationship exists between the mastery experience of threshold concepts and the development of teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge (PCK). In this regard, findings from this study will provide valuable information to understand the nature of threshold concepts and suggests the value of mastery experience of threshold concepts in terms of PCK development.
The purpose of this study is to confirm the MKT(Mathematical Knowledge for Teaching) of the pre-service mathematics teachers on the normal distribution through the comparative analysis between the sub-elements of the MKT. In addition, it is to examine the factors that cause the difference of the subjects' MKT. To accomplish this, by the subject of 24 secondary pre-service mathematics teachers, in this study the test items of the MKT on the normal distribution were developed and data were collected and analyzed. As a result of the analysis of the MKT test sheet, the CCK(Common Content Knowledge) of the preparatory mathematics teacher was confirmed as a high score, whereas the SCK(Specialized Content Knowledge) and KCS(Knowledge of Content and Students) were confirmed as low scores. In addition, through these results, it could be confirmed that the difference in MKT of preparatory mathematicians occurred.
The purpose of this study is to confirm the MKT(Mathematical Knowledge for Teaching) of the in-service mathematics teachers on the statistics(Representative value, Degree of scattering) through the comparative analysis between the sub-elements of the MKT. In addition, it is to examine the factors that cause the difference of the subjects' MKT. To accomplish this, by the subject of 12 secondary in-service mathematics teachers, in this study the test items of the MKT on the statistics were developed and data were collected and analyzed. As a result of the analysis of the MKT test sheet, the CCK(Common Content Knowledge) and SCK(Specialized Content Knowledge) of the mathematics teacher was confirmed as a high score, whereas the and KCS(Knowledge of Content and Students) and KCT(Knowldge of Curriculum and teaching) were confirmed as low scores. In addition, through these results, it was shown that the difference in MKT's elements the middle school and high school teachers obtain occurred slightly.
This study has examined the current status of mathematics education departments by analyzing its curriculum and teaching methods. We analyzed data set of the number of faculty and students, curricula, textbooks and instructional methods among 23 mathematics education department in Korea. The data reveals that the curricula of the universities of education has shown that more content knowledge subjects are taught than pedagogy knowledge subjects. However, it is important to note that there is increasing emphasis on pedagogical content knowledge. In addition, the curricula of mathematics education departments deal with various aspects of pedagogical content knowledge. What matters is whether the system works for developing a sound and deep understanding of fundamental aspects of the subject matter in future mathematics teachers. The results of the study point to the importance of pedagogical content knowledge and to the essential components that can promote further understanding of effective teaching for preparing future teachers in mathematics education departments.

The purpose of this study is to explore the main characteristics regarding of implicating competence-based curriculum in Finland's home economics curriculum by analyzing curriculum documents and related literature. The research findings are categorized into four main characteristics. First, home economics in Finland belongs to the 7-9 grades. The key content areas are composed of 'food knowledge & skills and food culture', 'housing & living together' and 'consumer & financial skills' at an integrated approach. Secondly, the subject competences of home economics are not presented; however, the general objectives of transversal competences are defined in Finland's curriculum document. Transversal competences describe the aspects of the objectives that are emphasized in grades 7-9 and strengthens the connectivity with each subject. Thirdly, the objectives of home economics included in the instructions in Finland consist of a content system that links learning skills, content areas, and transversal competences. Both learning skills as a role of subject competences and content areas as objectives support teachers who restructure an curriculum. Fourth, in terms of achieving subject objectives, the assessment criteria in Finland home economics is to evaluate the achievement of good knowledge and skills through actual performance. Based on the research findings, the main features of the revised curriculum in Finland include encouragement of flexibility in education systems and learner's uniqueness in schools. If the implementation of subject competences in home economics is to be strengthened, it is necessary to intergrate the knowledge and competence, require a curriculum system for implements' subject competence, carryout assessment as learning to learn, and facilitate school community and teacher community for deeper co-operation.
The study was planned to analyze the figure concepts teachers have according to the years of experiences based on the two aspects, the subject matter knowledge and the pedagogical content knowledge. Further, it aims to have the results utilized in teacher education and training, and ultimately to help elementary school students to establish the accurate figure concepts. We administered the test to the random sample of 77 elementary school teachers of the grade 3 to grade 6, from nine schools of the Daegu, Ulsan and Gyeongsangbuk-do districts, and we analyzed the results. Correlational analysis between the years of experience and the knowledge showed that the content understanding and knowledge decreases as the years of experience increases, while the experiential knowledge related to the understanding of the students and the pedagogical methods increases as the years of experience increases.
The purpose of this study was to elucidate elementary school teachers' pedagogical content knowledge regarding the subject of "weight and pressure in water". 6 elementary teachers in charge of the 6th grade were selected for this study. The 7 hour lessons were observed over $15{\sim}20$ days, and a variety of data including scenarios, questionnaires for teachers, interviews of teachers were analyzed. As a result of this study, teachers who had long career histories thought that the purpose of teaching science was to teach the use of science principles, and teachers who had only taught for a relatively short time thought the purpose was satisfying students' curiosity. Most of the teachers felt that the science content knowledge related to buoyancy was insufficient. They had acquired most of the science content knowledge from teaming experiences in middle and high schools. The pre-service teacher education programs didn't help them to satisfactorily acquire the science content knowledge under analysis here. Most of the teachers taught the science lessons according to the order of sequence as shown in the science textbook. They didn't teach the contents that they thought were needed if they were not already included in the science textbook. Only one teacher who had taken science courses in high school managed the science classes freely according to his own thoughts and opinions. From the results of this research, it could be concluded that most elementary school teachers did not have enough pedagogical content knowledge to teach their students effectively.
This study is aimed at development of pedagogical content knowledge on fraction in the elementary school mathematics. Elementary students regard fraction as the difficult topic in school mathematics. Furthermore, fraction is the fundamentally important concept in studying mathematics. So it is important to develop the pedagogical content knowledge on fraction. The reason of attention to the pedagogical content knowledge is that improving the quality of teaching is the central focus of a high quality mathematics education. Shulman suggested that various knowledges are required for teacher to improve their classes. Of course, pedagogical content knowledge is the most valuable in teaching mathematics. Pedagogical content knowledge is related to the promotion of students' understanding about the learning. Pedagogical content knowledges are categorized by five factors in this study. These are understanding about curriculum, understanding about students and students' knowledge, understanding about teachers and teachers' knowledge, understanding about the methods, contents, and management of class, and understanding about methods of assessments. I develop the pedagogical content knowledge on fraction according to the these categories. I concentrate on the two types of pedagogical content knowledges in developing. That is, I present knowledges which teachers have to know for teaching fraction effectively and materials which teachers can use during the teaching fraction. Pedagogical content knowledges guarantee teachers as the professionalists. Teachers should not teach only content knowledges but teach various knowledges including the meta-knowledges which have relation to fraction.
This study explored ways to implement a competencies-based curriculum in schools by reviewing exemplary cases that have introduced Key Competencies (KCs) in the school science curriculum. Since the OECD redefined key competencies as 'what people should know and do in order to lead a successful life in a well-functioning society', many countries have emphasized the use of a competencies-based curriculum. Foreign and domestic classroom cases, which have used a competencies-based curriculum in science teaching, were collected and analyzed. Through open-ended interviews with teachers and principals, we investigated changes of teachers' professional knowledge and practice that were evident as a result of the implementation of competencies-based curriculum in science class. Foreign science teachers suggested ways to relate competencies-based curriculum and science curriculum including maintaining a balance between competencies-based curriculum and content-based curriculum. They also integrated KCs into all subject-based curriculums, gave priority to KCs over subject matter knowledge, and developed KCs through teaching science contents that students wanted to learn. On the other hand, Korean science teachers suggested reconstructing competencies-based curriculum by extracting common attributes from the existing subject areas. They also made KCs realized through content teaching, and developed various KCs within science contexts. Implications of the competencies-based curriculum for science teaching and learning were discussed at the end.
