태안과 강릉지역 여름철 PM10의 수용성 성분 특성 (Characteristic of Water-soluble Components of PM10 at Taean and Gangneung Sites in Summer Season)

  • [ $PM_{10}$ ]measurements were made at two coastal sites, i.e., Taean and Gangneung, for summer to examine the characterization of water-soluble organic carbon (WSOC) and inorganic ionic species, and to investigate their difference between the sites. The fractions of three major inorganic water-soluble components ($NO_3^-$, $SO_4^{2-}$, and $NH_4^+$) at Taean and Gangneung sites were 30.6% (16.2~62.0%) and 25.6% (13.0~52.5%) of the $PM_{10}$, respectively. $SO_4^{2-}$ is the most dominant species of water-soluble ions at both sites, accounting for up to 20.5% (9.1~44.9%) and 16.3% (5.5~34.2%) of their respective PM10 mass concentrations. Using the paired T-test, $PM_{10}$ (p<0.01), $NO_3^-$ (p<0.05), $SO_4^{2-}$ (p<0.01), $NH_4^+$ (p<0.001), and WSOC (p<0.05) concentrations exhibited strong fluctuations on a daily basis between Taean and Gangneung sites. Relationship between the concentrations of $SO_x$ ($SO_4^{2-}+SO_2$) and CO indicates that the slopes of $SO_x$ /CO were 0.007 and 0.019 in the Taean and Gangneung sites, respectively. The smaller $SO_x$/CO slope in the Taean site could be related to the aged air with wet scavenging of $SO_x$ during transport. The correlation between the concentrations of CO and WSOC suggests that WSOC observed in the Gangneung ($R^2$=0.82) be transported from combustion-related sources, while the WSOC at the Taean site could be formed through atmospheric processing of primary volatile organic species during transport.

  • In order to investigate the characteristics of PM(sub)2.5 in the background area, the following pollutant were measured from February 1996 to June 1999 in Kanghwa: PM(sub)2.5 mass, sulfate, nitrate, chloride, ammonium, sodium, calcium, magnesium and potassium. The mean concentration of PM(sub)2.5 mass was 25.8$\pm$1.2$\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥(range 5.18~85.74). This value was higher than the annual PM(sub)2.5 US NAAQS(15$\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥) and the total number of samples higher than the 24-h PM(sub)2.5 US NAAQS(65$\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥) was seven. PM(sub)2.5 masses also showed temporal variations both yearly and seasonally. Total water soluble ions constituted about 45% of PM(sub)2.5 miss, and sulfate, nitrate and ammonium were main components in water soluble ions. Compared with the literature data from other areas, the measured PM(sub)2.5 concentrations were relatively high.

  • Chemical properties of aerosols were investigated by analyzing the inorganic water-soluble content in $PM_{2.5}$ collected in the downtown area of Jeju City in Jeju Island. Due to an increase in both the number of visiting tourists and the size of local population, the number of cars in this area is increasing, causing an increase in $PM_{2.5}$. Eight $PM_{2.5}$-bound major inorganic ions were analyzed during the summer and winter periods. The water-soluble inorganic component represents a significant fraction of $PM_{2.5}$. In particular, secondary inorganic aerosols contribute 36.2% and 47.5% of $PM_{2.5}$ mass in summer and winter, respectively. Nitrate concentrations increase for $[NH_4{^+}]/[SO_4{^{2-}}]$>1.5, and excess ammonium, which is necessary for ammonium nitrate formation, is linearly correlated with nitrate. These results are clearly observed during the winter because conditions are more conducive to the formation of ammonium nitrate. A significant negative correlation between Nitrogen Oxidation Ratio (NOR) and temperature was observed. The obtained results can be useful for a better understanding of the aerosol dynamics in the downtown area in Jeju City.

Biocementation via soybean-urease induced carbonate precipitation using carbide slag powder derived soluble calcium

  • Soybean-urease induced carbonate precipitation (EICP), as an alternative to microbially induced carbonate precipitation (MICP), was employed for soil improvement. Meanwhile, soluble calcium produced from industrial waste carbide slag powder (CSP) via the acid dissolution method was used for the EICP process. The ratio of CSP to the acetic acid solution was optimized to obtain a desirable calcium concentration with an appropriate pH. The calcium solution was then used for the sand columns test, and the engineering properties of the EICP-treated sand, including unconfined compressive strength, permeability, and calcium carbonate content, were evaluated. Results showed that the properties of the biocemented sand using the CSP derived calcium solution were comparable to those using the reagent grade CaCl2. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses revealed that spherical vaterite crystals were mainly formed when the CSP-derived calcium solution was used. In contrast, spherical calcite crystals were primarily formed as the reagent grade CaCl2 was used. This study highlighted that it was effective and sustainable to use soluble calcium produced from CSP for the EICP process.

부산지역 PM10과 PM2.5 중의 금속 농도와 이온농도 특성 (Characteristics of Metallic and Ionic Concentrations in PM10 and PM2.5 in Busan)

  • This study analyzes the chemical composition of metallic elements and water-soluble ions in $PM_{10}$ and $PM_{2.5}$. $PM_{10}$ and $PM_{2.5}$ concentrations in Busan during 2010-2012 were $97.2{\pm}67.5$ and $67.5{\pm}32.8{\mu}g/m^3$, respectively, and the mean $PM_{2.5}/PM_{10}$ concentration ratio was 0.73. The contribution rate of water-soluble ions to $PM_{10}$ ranged from 29.0% to 58.6%(a mean of 38.6%) and that to $PM_{2.5}$ ranged from 33.9% to 58.4%(a mean of 43.1%). The contribution rate of sea salt to $PM_{10}$ was 13.9% for 2011 and 9.7% for 2012, while that to $PM_{2.5}$ was 17.4% for 2011 and 10.1% for 2012. $PM_{10}$ concentration during Asian dust events was $334.3{\mu}g/m^3$ and $113.3{\mu}g/m^3$ during non-Asian dust events, and the $PM_{10}$ concentration ratio of Asian Dust/Non Asian dust was 2.95. On the other hand, the $PM_{2.5}$ concentration in Asian dust was $157.4{\mu}g/m^3$ and $83.2{\mu}g/m^3$ in Non Asian dust, and the $PM_{2.5}$ concentration ratio of Asian Dust/Non Asian dust was 1.89, which was lower than that of $PM_{10}$.

국내에서 섭취되는 나물류에 함유된 일부 수용성 비타민의 함량 분석 (Analysis of Selected Water-Soluble Vitamin B1, B2, B3, and B12 Contents in Namul (Wild Greens) Consumed in Korea)

  • In this study, the contents of water-soluble vitamins $B_1$ (thiamin), $B_2$ (riboflavin), $B_3$ (niacin), and $B_{12}$ (cyanocobalamin) in namuls (wild greens), such as salads and side dishes, consumed in Korea were quantified by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with UV and fluorescence detection. All samples were prepared with recipes used in Korea. All analyses were performed under the quality control of vitamin $B_1$, $B_2$, $B_3$, and $B_{12}$. The vitamin $B_1$, $B_2$, and $B_3$ contents in namuls consumed in Korea were analyzed. The highest content of vitamin $B_1$ was $3.018{\pm}0.016mg/100g$ in Putgochudoenjang-muchim. The highest contents of vitamin $B_2$, $B_3$, and $B_{12}$ were $0.279{\pm}0.003mg/100g$ in Gul-muchim, $12.241{\pm}0.040mg/100g$ in Chamchi-salad, and $8.133{\pm}0.371{\mu}g/100g$ in Pijogae-muchim, respectively. These results showed that animal-based ingredients in salads provided for good intake of vitamin $B_{12}$. These results can be used as basic data for food composition tables and improvement of the national health of Koreans.

Valorization of bottom ash with geopolymer synthesis: Optimization of pastes and mortar

  • Due to the physical-chemical characteristics of some bottom ash (BA), there are technical, economic and environmental limitations to find a destination that will add value to it. In Brazil, this residue is eventually used for filling coal extraction pits or remains in sedimentation ponds, creating a susceptible panorama to environmental issues. The geopolymers binders are one of the alternatives to the proper use high amounts of these materials. In this work, geopolymeric binder pastes were produced with BA mixed to activators with different alkali contents (expressed as %Na2O), as well as the incorporation of soluble silicates (Ms content). The production of binary geopolymeric pastes based on the use of two industrial wastes: fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) and aluminum anodizing sludge (AAS), was also assessed. The content in mass of BA/FCC and BA/AAS ranged from 100/0, 90/10; 80/20 and 70/30. Systems with soluble silicates as activator in a molar ratio SiO2/Na2O of 1.0 (Ms = 1.0) and Na2O content of 15%, showed the best results of mechanical strength (42 MPa at day 28th). The improvement is up to 5X when compared to NaOH based systems. For systems with partial replacement of BA of 10% of AAS and 20% of FCC (80/20), the presence of soluble silicates was also effective to increase compressive strength.

UV/TiO2에 의한 수용성 염료의 분해에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Decomposition of Water Soluble Dyes by UV/TiO2)

  • The characteristics of photocatalytic decomposition of dye waste water by titanium dioxide was studied in a batch reactor under constant strength of ultra-violet ray. The decomposition rate of methyl orange by TiO$_2$ was pseudo-first order, anatase type TiO$_2$ was more effective than rutile type below the dosage of 5g. The decomposition rate was increased with decreasing initial pH, increasing reaction temperature and oxidant concentration. The decomposition rate of water soluble dyes was decreased in order of rhodamine B>eosin Y>methyl orange.

논토양에서 유효인산 함량과 인산 흡수능에 따른 0.01 M CaCl2 가용 인산 농도 변화 (Dependence of 0.01 M CaCl2 Soluble Phosphorus upon Extractable P and P Sorptivity in Paddy Soil)

  • 논토양의 환경기준 인산지표 예측기술개발을 위하여 논토양 35점을 $25{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ 에서 1, 2, 4주간 담수 항온한 결과 담수 항온 전 풍건 토양의 $0.01M\;CaCl_2$ 가용인산 함량과 유효인산 함량 및 인산흡수능의 관계는 습토로 분석할 경우 상관계수의 크기는 유효인산/인산흡수량>유효인산>유효인산/인산흡수계수>인산흡수량>총인산>인산흡수계수 순이었고, 항온기간별 상관계수 크기는 습토로 분석할 경우 항온이 길어질수록 상관계수는 점점 낮아 졌으나, 건토로 분석할 경우는 이와 반대 경향이었다. 토양의 유효인산 함량과 인산흡수량을 활용하여 $0.01M\;CaCl_2$ 가용인산 농도를 추정할 수 있는 관계식 $0.01M\;CaCl_2-P=0.0828$ (유효인산/인산흡수량) + 0.0374을 얻었으며, 이러한 관계식은 토양의 인산 함량과 인산흡수 특성을 고려하여 작물재배에 필요한 적정 유효인산 함량의 추정과 토양 인산의 유실 가능성 등을 예측하는데 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

제주 애월 대기오염집중측정소의 PM2.5 에어로졸 화학성분 자료를 이용한 광학특성 및 직접적 복사강제력 추정 연구 (Estimations of the Optical Properties and Direct Radiative Forcing of Aerosol Chemical Components in PM2.5 Measured at Aewol Intensive Air Monitoring Site on Jeju Island)

  • The optical properties and direct aerosol radiative forcing (DARF) of different aerosol components in $PM_{2.5}$ (water-soluble, insoluble, black carbon (BC), and sea-salt) were estimated using the hourly resolution data measured at Aewol intensive air monitoring site on Jeju Island during 2013, based on a modeling approach. In general, the water-soluble component was predominant over all other components with respect to its impact on the optical properties(except for absorbing BC) and DARF. The annual mean aerosol optical depth (AOD) at 500 nm for the water-soluble component was $0.14{\pm}0.14$ ($0.04{\pm}0.01$ for BC). The total DARF at the surface ($DARF_{SFC}$) and top of the atmosphere ($DARF_{TOA}$), and in the atmosphere ($DARF_{ATM}$) for most aerosol components(except for sea-salt) during the daytime were highest in spring and lowest in fall and/or summer. The maximum $DARF_{SFC}$ of most aerosol components occurred around noon (12:00~14:00 LST) during all seasons, while the maximum $DARF_{TOA}$ occurred in the afternoon (13:00~16:00 LST) during most seasons (except for spring). In addition, the estimated $DARF_{SFC}$ and $DARF_{ATM}$ of the water-soluble component were -20 to $-59W/m^2$ and +3.5 to $+14W/m^2$, respectively, while those of BC were -18 to $-29W/m^2$ and +23 to $+37W/m^2$, respectively.
