In this study, the applicability of PHC pile jointing method using rectangular steel tubular was studied. PHC pile joints are welded and bolt assembly. The bolt assembly method is a method that improves the various problems of welded joints. Numerical analysis and tests were conducted to analyze the applicability of the PHC pile jointing method using a rectangular steel tubular. The tests were carried out to test the material properties of the rectangular steel tubular material and the bending test of the pile joints. The numerical analysis was interpreted in the same conditons as the tests conditions. As a result, the material strength of each rectangular steel tubular could be used as a joint material. In the bending test, it was evaluated as a sTable material above the allowable stress of piles. In the numerical analysis results under the same conditions as the tests, it was possible to apply the pile joint material without exceeding the allowable stress of the material.
Recently, a rolling stock has been requiring more efficient manufacturing method than welding for the improved quality and the enhanced fabrication of car body structure. As an alternative, modularization of car body structure is being studied. Accordingly, rolling stock manufacturers need to make it possible to develop a variety of rolling stock vehicles made from modularized sub-blocks in order to meet various customer's demands. The bolt-assembled car body structure for modularization is known to have many advantages over the existing weld-assembled method and is free from the possible welding defects, such as welds between dissimilar metals, crack, deformation and loss of strength. Consequently, we can have the improved overall quality, the reduced man powers for assembly and the satisfied strength of car body structure. The review is about the bolt-assembled car body structure for modularization to assure global competitiveness and an enhanced technique in terms of assembly methodology of car body structure.
This paper addresses a scheduling scheme for Flexible Flow Shop(FFS) in the case that a factory is a sub-plant of an electronic device manufacturing plant. Under this environment, job orders for the sub-plants in the production route are generated together with job processing time bucket when the customer places orders for final product. The processing time bucket for each job is a duration from possible release date to permissible due date. A sub-plant modeled FFS should schedule these jobs orders within time bucket. Viewing a Printed Circuit Board(PCB) assembly line as a FFS, the developed scheme schedules an incoming order along with the orders already placed on the scheduled. The scheme consists of the four steps, 1)assigning operation release date and due date to each work cells in the FFS, 2)job grouping, 3)dispatching and 4)machine allocation. Since the FFS scheduling problem is NP-complete, the logics used are heuristic. Using a real case, we tested the scheme and compared it with the John's algorithm and other dispatching rules.
Large number of part design for aircraft and automobile is preceded by functional or sectional design groups for efficiency. However, interferences and gaps can be found when the parts and sub-assemblies by those design groups are to be assembled. These interferences and gaps cause design changes and additional repair processes. While interference problem has been resolved by digital mockup and concurrent engineering methodology, gap problem has been covered by temporary treatment of filling gap with sealant. This kind of fast fix causes fatal problem of leakage when the gap is too big for filling or the treatment gets old. With this research, we have developed a program to find the gap automatically among parts of assembly so that users can find them to correct their design before manufacturing stage. By using decomposition model representation method, the developed program can search the gap among complex car body parts to be visualized with volumetric information. It can also define the boundary between the gap and exterior empty space automatically. Though we have proved the efficiency of the developed program by applying to automobile assembly, application of the program is not limited to car body only, but also can be extended to aircraft and ship design of large number of parts.
Flow blockage of the fuel assembly in the lead-based fast reactor (LFR) may produce critical local spots, which will result in cladding failure and threaten reactor safety. In this study, the flow blockage characteristics were analyzed with the sub-channel analysis method, and the circumferentially-varied method was employed for considering the non-uniform distribution of circumferential temperature. The developed sub-channel analysis code SACOS-PB was validated by a heat transfer experiment in a blocked 19-rod bundle cooled by lead-bismuth eutectic. The deviations between the predicted coolant temperature and experimental values are within ±5%, including small and large flow blockage scenarios. And the temperature distributions of the fuel rod could be better simulated by the circumferentially-varied method for the small blockage scenario. Based on the validated code, the analysis of blockage characteristics was conducted. It could be seen from the temperature and flow distributions that a large blockage accident is more destructive compared with a small one. The sensitivity analysis shows that the closer the blockage location is to the exit, the more dangerous the accident is. Similarly, a larger blockage length will lead to a more serious case. And a higher exit temperature will be generated resulting from a higher peak coolant temperature of the blocked region. This work could provide a reference for the future design and development of the LFR.
This study investigated the effects of the substrate and powder content on the fabrication of SiO$_{2}$ photonic crystals by evaporation method. Photonic crystals were self-assembled on quartz, Corning 1737 glass, slide glass, and ITa glass to verify the effects of the wetting angle and surface morphology. The powder contents of the solution were varied from 0.2 to 2.0 wt$\%$. The number of photonic crystal layers increased according to the decrease of wetting angle and surface roughness. The resultant photonic crystals showed the best optical characteristics when the number of photonic crystal layers was within 40 and 50. In addition, the intensity peak of Fabry¡?Perot fringes increased when the wetting angle was large and the particle size was small. Photonic crystals coated on ITO glass showed the highest reflectance peak of 63$\%$ relative intensity.
Electron-beam lithography (EBL) process is a versatile tool for a fabrication of nanostructures, nano-gap electrodes or molecular arrays and its application to nano-device. However, it is not appropriate for the fabrication of sub-5 nm features and high-aspect-ratio nanostructures due to the limitation of EBL resolution. In this study, the precision assembly and alignment of DNA molecule was demonstrated using sub-5 nm nanostructures formed by a combination of conventional electron-beam lithography (EBL) and plasma ashing processes. The ma-N2401 (EBL-negative tone resist) nanostructures were patterned by EBL process at a dose of $200\;{\mu}C/cm2$ with 25 kV and then were ashed by a chemical dry etcher at microwave (${\mu}W$) power of 50 W. We confirmed that this method was useful for sub-5 nm patterning of high-aspect-ratio nanostructures. In addition, we also utilized the surface-patterning technique to create the molecular pattern comprised 3-(aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APS) as adhesion layer and octadecyltrichlorosilane (OTS) as passivation layer. DNA-templated gold nanoparticle chain was attached only on the sub-5 nm APS region defined by the amine groups, but not on surface of the OTS region. We were able to obtain DNA molecules aligned selectively on a SiO2/Si substrate using atomic force microscopy (AFM).
In this study, we report a new approach for $Mn_3O_4$-graphene nanocomposite by ex situ method. This nanocomposite shows two-dimensional aggregation of nanoparticle, and doping effect by decorated manganese oxide ($Mn_3O_4$), as well. The graphene film was made through micromechanical cleavage of graphite on the $SiO_2/Si$ wafer. Manganese oxide ($Mn_3O_4$) nanoparticle with uniform cubic shape and size (about $5.47{\pm}0.61$ nm sized) was synthesized through the thermal decomposition of manganese(II) acetate, in the presence of oleic acid and oleylamine. The nanocomposite was obtained by self-assembly of nanoparticles on graphene film, using hydrophobic interaction. After heat treatment, the decorated nanoparticles have island structure, with one-layer thickness by two-dimensional aggregations of particles, to minimize the surface potential of each particle. The doping effect of $Mn_3O_4$ nanoparticle was investigated with Raman spectra. Given the upshift in positions of G and 2D in raman peaks, we suggest that $Mn_3O_4$ nanoparticles induce p-doping of graphene film.
Spot-welding is widely used to construct passenger car bodies in automotive industry. Occasionally severe spot-weld distortions in sub-assembly make further spot-weld difficult. In this paper, distortions for various spot-weld conditions are measured using coordinate measuring machine. Then, based on finite element solution for unit translation or unit rotation of nugget edge, equivalent loads for spot-weld distortions are determined. They can be used to predict the spot-weld distortion using finite element method.
