This study aimed to identify the factors affecting elderly care willingness (ECW) of nursing students. A total of 313 nursing students participated in the study. Data were collected from May to June 2019 using Interpersonal Reactivity Index-Korean version, Semantic Differential Scaling for evaluating attitudes toward elders, Scale of Ageism, and Questionnaire for care willingness toward older adults. Data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression using SPSS 21.0 Program. The factors with the most significant influence on the elderly care willingness was prejudice toward the elderly (β=-.30, p=.001), followed by attitude toward the elderly (β=-.25, p=.004), third year (β=-.23, p=.016), satisfaction with volunteer experience with the elderly (β=-.21, p=.008), satisfaction with nursing major (β=-.17, p=.032), and empathy (β=.16, p=.046). These factors explained 46% of the elderly care willingness. In conclusion, it is necessary to reduce prejudice against the elderly and develop positive attitudes toward the elderly to increase the willingness of nursing students to care for older adults. In particular, further study is required to increase the willingness of nursing students to care for the elderly through developing programs such as curriculums for positive contact experiences with the elderly and volunteer activities for the elderly.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate COVID-19 vaccination intention among college students in Korea and verify the factors influencing vaccination. Methods: From April 28 to May 3, 2021, an online survey was conducted on a total of 323 college students. Measures included the 5C scale and the vaccine literacy scale. A logistic regression analysis was performed to identify the factors associated with COVID-19 vaccination intention among students. Results: Among the respondents, 47.7% had the intention to receive the vaccine following the government vaccination plan. Influencing factors of intention to COVID-19 vaccination included the higher level of confidence and collective responsibility and the lower level of constraints and calculation. However, vaccine literacy, socio-demographics, the influence of others, the contents and main source of information about the COVID-19 vaccine, health status and COVID-19-related experiences did not influence the intention to vaccination. The content analysis on self-reported reasons for the decreased vaccination intention resulted in three main categories, including "anxiety about the vaccine", "distrust in the government" and "no need of vaccination." Conclusion: In order to increase COVID-19 vaccination acceptance among college students and form herd immunity, it is necessary to increase the trust in vaccines and emphasize the importance of herd immunity.
Purpose: This study examines the influence and the relevance of personal background factors, social activity factors, and satisfaction factors for university education of college students in terms of changes in core competencies required by companies, so as to provide basic data for developing a curriculum necessary for improving core competencies. Methods: A self-administered questionnaire survey was administered to 172 college students from the Department of Dental Laboratory Technology at K University in Gangwon Province, who understood the purpose of this study and agreed to participate, from September 10, 2022 to September 30, 2022. To enhance the core competencies of college students in the dental technology department, it is necessary to improve the satisfaction with the curriculum through the expansion of educational infrastructure, and help in the career decision and preparation process. Conclusion: It is necessary to seek research that identifies the core competencies of dental technicians and university students based on the image of human resources desired by companies in a more diverse way and programs necessary to promote them.
This study investigated Korean and Chinese female college students' retirement attitudes. Considering the fact that the two countries are experiencing dramatic increases in elderly population, retirement planning is a significant social issue. Even though Korea and China share similar cultural backgrounds, economic systems and governmental retirement policies have been developed in different ways. The purpose of this research was to compare retirement attitudes and related factors between Korean and Chinese female college students. Based on a survey with 214 female college students (130 Koreans and 84 Chinese), differences and similarities in retirement attitudes and related factors were identified. On average, Chinese female college students showed more positive attitudes towards retirement than Korean students. The levels of thinking about retirement and worrying about finances in retirement were greater for Korean students than Chinese students. More Korean students anticipated that their actual retirement age will be earlier than their desired retirement age. Korean students believed that they should start retirement planning at an earlier age than Chinese students' retirement planning age. Korean students anticipated that the cost for food and housing as the major expenditure category in retirement while Chinese students anticipated cost for health care as the major expenditure category. Korean students who worry about finances in retirement, and those who anticipated that they will retire earlier than their desired age showed negative retirement attitudes when controlling other factors. Implications for retirement planning and education were presented based on the research findings.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences between medical college students and graduate school students with regard to the factors that shape career choice and specialty indecision. One hundred and thirty-three students from a medical school participated in this study. The students completed a survey, which collected information on career choice, specialty indecision, and career adaptability. Significant differences were found between high and low career adaptability groups in factors that affected specialty choice and indecision. Students with high career adaptability were significantly more affected by 'intellectual content of specialty,' 'ages and characteristics of patients,''patient contact experience during the early years of medical school,' and 'greater opportunity for research.' Among the specialty indecision factors, students with high career adaptability were affected by 'several specialties equally appealing to me' and 'many interests,' while students with low career adaptability were affected by being 'unaware of my abilities,''unaware of my interests' and having 'learned my choice was not possible for me.' The factor having the greatest influence on specialty indecision was 'need more information and support,' and there were no significant differences in these factors between the two groups. The results suggest that the development of career counseling and education programs need to be designed for medical college students and graduate students in terms of career adaptability and specialty indecision.
The primary purpose of the study was to investigate the degree of difficulty and the causes of the difficulties in science instruction reported by elementary teachers and students. The secondary purpose was to suggest the effective methods to both of them to improve the efficiency of science instruction. For this study, the survey was carried out on 322 students and 156 teachers in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. The questionnaires consisted of interest, difficulty and its factors. The results of this investigation are summarized as follows; 1. Teachers had relatively higher interest than students in science instruction content(textbook). Furthermore, the units that teachers showed interest differed from those that students had. This means that there is a significant difference of interest in instruction process between teachers and students. 2. Teachers felt much higher difficulty than students in the content of science instruction. This shows that the degree of interest might have little relation with that of difficulty, and that teaching of science seemed more difficult than teaming. Moreover, there was a difference of difficulty in the units between the teachers and students. The result shows a distinctive difference of difficulty in 8 units of the 3rd grade, 9 units n the 4th grade, and 12 units in the 5th grade (p<.05, p<.001, p<.005, respectively). It means that the difficulty depended on the units. 3. Students responded that they are responsible for difficulty factors of teaming, otherwise teachers thought that students are responsible for it, when the factors were divided into student factor, teacher factor, and curriculum factor. 4. Students demanded many experiments in the lab as well as easy and interesting instructions in order to reduce the degree of difficulty and to improve the condition of science instructions. However, teachers demanded the expansion of experimental equipments and materials as well as the improvement of the lab condition.
Purpose: This study was to compare the influencing factors of clinical competence between associate and bachelor nursing students completing nursing courses. Method: The subjects were 429 students completing the nursing courses (172 bachelor course students, and 257 associate course students). The study design was cross sectional. Results: Bachelor students showed a significant higher score in clinical competence than associate students. There were significant influencing factors on clinical competence including critical thinking disposition, professional conduct, communication skill, theoretical education satisfaction, and practice education satisfaction. The strongest factor influencing clinical competence was critical thinking disposition. All the factors mentioned above explained 49% of clinical competence in associate courses, and 40.0% in bachelor courses excluding the factor of practice education satisfaction. The level of theoretical and practice education satisfaction of bachelor courses was significantly lower than associate. Conclusion: It is recommended that associate course nursing students should be encouraged in critical thinking disposition, professional conduct, and communication skill. Bachelor course nursing students should be encouraged in practical education including practical environments, instruction methods, and content for improving clinical competence.
