High school is regarded as the period when many important physical, mental and social developments occur, and when many health-related behaviors are formed. School health education is one of the major learning resources influencing health potential in the home and community as well as for the individual student. High school health education in Korea has a fundamental systemic flaw however, in that health -related subjects are divided and taught under various subjects at school. In order to achieve quality health education, it is essential to assess the learners' and teachers' educational needs. So far, most of the research projects that had been carried out for improving high school health education were limited to only the learners' educational need. They failed to in elude an educational assessment of the teachers. Therefore, in this study the high school health education teachers' needs relating to health education were investigated through a focus on the teachers' health education activity level, health education activity self-efficacy level, and perceived level of importance in health education content. In this study, research instruments these factors were constructed by Yoo(1997) on the basis of the PRECEDE model. The data for this study were collected from a sample consisting of twenty general and vocational high schools in Seoul and Chongju for a two month period beginning in July, 1996. In analyzing the data, an ANOVA test and stepwise multiple regression were accomplished using an SPSS - PC+ program. The results were as follows: The average level of health education activity and self-efficacy among high school health edu cation teachers were found to be low. But, teachers' perceived importance of health education contents was high. Teachers' activity and perceived importance concerning sex education were lower than in other health education areas. Health education activity of Military drill teachers was higher than that of physical education teachers as well as school nurses. But it was not significant. Health education activity self-efficacy of school nurses was higher than that of other teachers(p<.05). Perceived level of importance of health education contents was the most influential variable in teachers' health education activity. Health education activity self-efficacy level was not an influential variable in teachers' health education activity. The significance of this study is that it has diagnosed the needs of high school health education through the teachers' assessment of a variety of health factors related. These findings suggest that the management of an integrated health education, program requiring large changes in the curriculum of health education is necessary.

Researches on laboratory work show that students often achieve little meaningful learning through laboratory work. One reason for this failure is that students often do not know the different types of laboratory work and the 'purposes' of them. Therefore, this study investigated middle school student' ideas about the purposes of laboratory work. To seventh grade students(n=147) of middle school in Seoul, Korea, we asked (Question 1) "Why do scientists do laboratory work?" and (Question 2) "Why do you do laboratory work in science classes?" It was required a short essay including the reasons and examples of them. From the results, it was found that 56.8% of the students had ideas that scientists do laboratory work for discovering new facts or inventing something, and 82.9% of the students responded that they do laboratory work for understanding and memorizing the contents of science textbook. In addition, the differences according to gender and to school achievement level, and the relationship between the ideas about scientists' laboratory work and about school science laboratory work were examined. The results showed that boys responded 'social usefulness' more frequently than girl, while girls mentioned 'personal pleasure' more frequently than boys in relation to the purposes of scientists' laboratory work(p<.05). According to the achievement level, it was founded that 'middle' level students replied 'to remember' more frequently than high and low levels in relation to school science laboratory work. Finally, students who had ideas that scientists do laboratory work for verifying a theory had the similar ideas about school science laboratory work. In conclusion, students are lack of diverse and proper views about laboratory work. It is recommended that teacher need to make clear the purpose of laboratory work and help students to understand of it.

In this study, we investigated the characteristics in the processes of generating analogy for lessons by pre-service science teachers. Eight pre-service teachers at a college of education in Seoul participated in this study. After the workshop of analogy in science education, they generated analogies for lessons. In order to investigate thought processes deeply, we used the think-aloud method and also conducted semi-structured interviews after their activities. Worksheets written by the pre-service teachers were collected. Their activities and interviews were recorded and videotaped. The characteristics in the processes of generating analogy were analyzed in the perspectives of student, analog, and concept. The analyses of the results revealed that they generated analogies to correct students' misconceptions and also considered misconceptions that could be caused by their analogies. They generated analogies using sources with which students are familiar. They also generated concrete and everyday analogies rather than abstract and artificial analogies. There were some cases where they did not clearly grasp the target concepts and expressed the concepts which were not covered in the unit. On the bases of the results, we suggest some educational implications for pre-service science teacher education.

The role of nurses in Korea is undergoing significant change because of the economic development, medical insurance and the change of family structure. It will be predicted that the nurse's role is extended more and more in the 21C. So the nursing curriculum in nursing education is the most important thing to prepare a good quality of nursing. Furthermore qualified curriculum calls for the development of desirable attitudes in nursing students. The purpose of this descriptive study was to collect data which can be used to facilitate the process of encouraging every college to assume greater responsibility for needed curriculum and educational conditions related to preperation of nursing students for various developed society toward 21C. A total sixty one nursing college were surveyed by mail during August and October 1997. Thirty six college(59%) responded. The data was analyzed by using SAS program. The results are as follows : 1) 32 college(88.9%) answered that they have Nursing educational philosophy and goal. 2) Total credits are 136credits, and the students who don't have teacher's course need 128 credits. 3) Nursing essential subjects comprise 84 credits, and nursing clinical practice subjects are 19 credits. 4) 15 colleges(41.7%) have their own hospital for student's clinical practice, 36 college(100%) take the community nursing practice in public health center, 34college(94.4%) take the school health nursing practice. 5 college(13.9%) have industrial nursing practice. 5) 3-year nursing college have 6.4 professor, 3.5 assistent professor, 1.9 and 3.4 full faculty and 7.4 part time faculty. We sugest that 3-year college have to have nursing educational philosophy and goal in terms of nursing educational standard. To improve the quality of nursing education every college should try to increase the number of professor and to contact qualified hospital for students clinical practice.

The purposes of this study were to survey the present situation of nutrition education in junior/senior high school, to analyze the difference between the favorite subjects on students and the existing subject done by dietitians on nutrition education, and then to identify the subjects of nutritional education for junior/senior high school students. Self-administered questionnaires were given to dietitians and students and 142 of the 200 dietitians (71.0%) and 479 of the 564 students (84.9%) responded to the questionnaire on the nutritional education. According to the survey results, 76.1 % of school dietitians currently were doing nutrition education for students while the other 23.9% didn't have such education programs even though they recognized the necessity strongly. The target of nutrition education was student rather than parents or teacher generally and the principal measuring method for nutrition education effect was change of plate waste and leftover'. It was found that significant difference in the collector and source of nutritional education information between junior and senior high school dietitians (p< .05) . About ninety-eight percentage of dietitians felt that nutrition education should keep pace with meal service and this meant that almost respondent recognized the necessity of nutrition education for students. Because the most serious one among operational problems of nutrition education program was lack of enough time owing to too many affairs as dietitian, junior and senior high schools should support so that dietitians would share enough time for nutrition education. And also, a gap was existed between actual and favorite subjects on nutrition education. Significant differences existed in the following subjects; 'basic concept of food and nutrition', 'disease and nutrition', 'food culture in the world', 'cooking and culinary art', 'food of the 24 divisions of the year in the lunar calendar', 'food waste and environmental issue', 'food habit and food behavior', 'exercise and nutrition' (p< .001) 'table manner', 'food and individual sanitation', 'recommended dietary allowance' (p < .01) and 'menu planning' (p< .05) .Finally, 24 subjects of nutritional education were selected based on the survey results. These subjects would be expected to be able to contribute the effective and interesting nutrition education program for junior and senior high school students.
The purpose of this study was to develop an observation and analysis instrument for invention educational activities for monitoring and improving the educational activities of inventions. For this study, a draft of observation and analysis instrument was developed through review of literatures. It was validated through opinion gathering from 10 experts of invention educational expert opinion convergence based on the content validity index (CVI) of Fehring (1987). The results of the study were as follows: First, the frame of observation and analysis of the invention education activity consists of three dimensions of observation object, observation phase and observation contents. Second, the instrument for observing and analyzing invention education activities are composed of analysts, observation subjects, observation class contents, teacher observation and analysis, student observation and analysis, educational environment and task observation and analysis. Third, the developed tools were designed to describe opinions and general opinions about individual observation factors besides the 5 - point Likert scale. Through this, it is expected that educational activities will be improved in addition to qualitative evaluation through monitoring of future invention education activities.
The purpose of this study was to suggest efficient method for development of learner's self-directed learning ability through literature review on self-directed learning, component of self-directed learning, development of self-directed learning ability, design education steps adopting problem based learning and project based learning. This study was conducted through literature review on self-directed learning and development of self-directed learning, design education. Design education and project based learning process and problem based learning to extract the items that are common to bring out five steps, and differences in levels of learners based on self-learning led to Grow(1991) model to connect the lessons of 9 steps present the design education steps, that is, the learners ready for learning, the definition of problem and recognition of necessity, team building, related data collection, team learning about real problem with the teacher, select optimal solution, student-centered discussion, models and product creation, testing and evaluation, complement.
The purpose of this study was to find out the change in psychological well-being of middle school students by participating in after school physical training activities. To achieve this object, 100 male students of M middle school in K city. "Teenagers' psychological well-being measurement tool" developed by Chung-hee Park(2007). Twice a week, for twelve weeks, the experimental group took part in an after school physical training activity, and the control group, in non-physical classes. The conclusion reached based on the result of this study are as follows. First, there was a statistically significant difference in the change of the family relations factor. Second, there was no statistically significant difference in the change of the student-teacher relations factor between the group Third, there was a statistically significant difference in the change of the self-awareness factor between the group. Fourth, there was no statistically significant difference in the change of the self assertiveness factor between the group. Fifth, there was a statistically significant difference in the change of the friendship factor between the group. Sixth, there was no statistically significant difference in the change of the self-initiative studying factor between the group. In conclusion, taking part in an after school physical training activity on a regular basis can increase the feeling of care and love from family relations, give positive self awareness and attitude towards life, and help building mutual trust between friends by having close relationship.
This study provided an overview of how action learning runs in parents' education classes by analyzing the case of parent education program for prospective early childhood teachers. The subjects of this study were 32 pre - service teachers (30 students in early childhood education, 2 double major students) who were enrolled in the department of early childhood education at P university in Daejeon. The research was conducted theoretical and practical action learning program for 12 weeks. The data collection was organized by students preparing weekly diaries, group assignments, in-depth interview materials, colleagues and self-assessment, and analysed with the qualitative case study approach. The results of the qualitative analysis are as follows: Action learning teaching method provided opportunities to encounter diverse cases through student led and group activities. Students could experience a specific problem solving method between parents-children relationships as prospective parents. Students could have a chance to solve real-life situations that are difficult to experience in theoretical classroom situations between teachers-parents relationship as prospective teachers. Although the realization of practical knowledge of real-world conflict has been challenging, it has become a chance to have confidence with the role of parents and the role of teachers in the future.
