  • The Ministry of Education in Saudi Arabia encourages Saudi students to continue their education at Saudi universities or abroad. Currently, an estimated 1,282,140 Saudi students are studying at Saudi universities. The extent of the research so far has not focused on Saudi student experiences, but it has shown that even a single negative event can dramatically reduce the chances of a student completing a degree. Thus, more research is necessary to identify and describe the context and obstacles (environmental and psychological) that Saudi students face. The evaluation was multifaceted to capture not only performance outcomes, but also other factors that have been suggested by research as influential to students' ability, such as the environmental, cultural, and psychological risks for graduation that Saudi students self-report. A single group pretest (survey) design was used in this study. Findings suggest depression stress and college stress predict stress levels, while subjective happiness predicts levels of scientific participations of the sample. Moreover, depression stress shows more consistency with hours spent on the internet for study purposes. These results should be considered in study support programs both institutionally and geopolitically by universities and governments.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of experiences on the essential of fundamental nursing skills (EFNS) on clinical competence in nursing students. Method: The data was collected using a questionnaire from 233 students who completed the 2nd grade courses of nursing curricula in college. Data was analyzed using the SPSS program. Results: Only 3 items of EFNS showed that over 70% of the students had performed, and 12 items showed that under 30% of the students had performed. There are significant differences with level of experiences on EFNS and the clinical competence. The regression model explained 2.4% of clinical competence. Conclusion: The results suggest that nursing students with higher level of experiences on EFNS will have a higher level of clinical competence. Therefore, it is necessary to develop strategies for a more effective clinical nursing education to experience more EFNSs.

  • Despite the social turn in literacy studies, few empirical studies have investigated the practical applications and learning experiences of multimodal composition pedagogy. Using a qualitative research approach, this study examines undergraduates' experiences in producing multimodal texts. Findings report that students' experiences in a multimodal composition class epitomize enjoyable learning. Students enjoyed their learning process because (a) the multimodal literacy curriculum filled the pedagogical gap between the conventional school-sponsored alphabetic literacy pedagogy and widespread out-of-school multimodal literacy practices and (b) the usefulness of the curriculum helped students enhance their intrinsic motivation to learn and compose. By questioning fundamental assumptions about what counts as knowledge in the current ecology of literacies, the authors argue for a dynamic view of literacy into practice.

  • This conceptual paper proposes a conceptualization regarding teacher candidates' experiences as learners during instructional activities implemented by teacher educators in practice-based teacher education programs. We argue that the current learning cycle framework for teacher candidates to engage in core teaching practices does not fully address teacher candidates' own learning experiences as learners. To provide a rationale for our proposal, we examine the current conceptualization of learning to enact core practices and suggest the need for integrating teacher candidates' experiences into the current conceptualization. We also draw on research on figured worlds as an effort to conceptualize teacher candidates' experiences coming from multiple figured world. We present some examples from our own mathematics methods courses to illustrate how this newly proposed framework can be used in practice and share remaining questions for future research.

  • This study investigated the current situation regarding college environments and the use of disposable goods, to inquire the environmental consciousness of college student consumers, and to identify factors that affect their use of disposable products. The major findings of this study are summarized in the following. First, college students' usage of disposable products was measured in two ways: the tendency to use disposable product and the quantities of disposable products consumed. The tendency to use disposable product was found to be 2.80/5, which indicates that college students' behavior of consuming disposable goods was less than moderate. On average, a college student consumed a total of 35 disposable products per month. Second, variables that affect college students' consumption of disposable products were investigated. The students who showed a higher tendency to use disposable products were those with more spending money, those without any experiences in the environmental organizations and clubs, those who had a low personal opinion toward university policies, those who regarded environmental protection as more important than economic growth, and those who thought environmental protection to be more important than fashion.

  • This paper proposes a modified category framework derived from VAMP and VIMT projects for describing teachers' mathematical and pedagogical values, and examines the dialectical relations between values awareness/willingness and teaching, based on case studies of student teachers of secondary mathematics from a follow-up project of VIMT. The preliminary results show that student teachers would teach certain values depending on the awareness of values priority, willingness to teach, their teaching capabilities and classroom conditions. So, mathematics teacher educators should provide relevant courses to facilitate student teachers to be aware of their implicit values and be willing to enact these values, and to empower student teachers with the knowledge and experiences to teach the values.

  • Teacher noticing has been termed consequential to teaching because what you see and do not see impacts decisions made within the classroom. Further, how a teacher responds to student thinking depends on what a teacher sees in student thinking. Within this study we sought to understand what teachers noticed within an engineering lesson and the decisions made as a result of that noticing. Findings indicate that student teachers and cooperating teachers drew on their pedagogical knowledge for decisions, rather than taking up the integrated content of student thinking and understanding. These findings serve as a guide for the experiences needed to engage in the complex work of teaching or, more specifically, implementing engineering into instruction through a responsive teaching frame.
