A Study on the Symbolic Recognition Structure System of Space Design of a Hotel (호텔 공간디자인의 상징적 인식구조체계에 관한 연구)

  • A new paradigm of design lays stress on the world of metaphysical concepts, and various attempts are being made to give meaning to psychological values. Hotel is a memorable place to remind of a special moment in one's life such as travel, marriage, meeting and so on. It also contains even more symbolism than other spaces as it is the place where the most primary and private act takes place apart from one's residence. As a result, it is also possible to communicate the message which a designer intends to convey through the user's recognition in the form of various symbolic expressions in space design. The designer communicates a meaning into a space through a symbolic system and creates a mutual consensus by means of the understanding structure of "designer-space-user". The user's diverse interpretations through a symbol are based on epistemology and consist of the primary, the secondary and the tertiary recognition structure system in the aspect of their contents. The primary structure depends on sensual perception, impressive idea and transcendental recognition based on metaphysical and perceptional association. The secondary structure includes casualty, continuous deduction and rational(integral) recognition. Finally, the tertiary structure is sublimation to the transcendental mental world beyond the boundary of emotion and it is classified into fundamental recognition structure on an object and archetypical recognition structure on an ego. These characteristics can derive systematic understandings and diverse interpretations on the symbol from the space of a hotel through the frame of analysis based on the artistic form of monosemous, polysemous and multidimensional frameworks and symbols. The framework of this analysis includes all the cases, and various methods which haven't been attempted in practice are presented. Therefore this study is not just a simple analysis of space but rather it will serve as a methodological tool for design that allows for various attempts of symbolic design concepts in the recognition structure system.

Changes in Stand Structures Before and After Silvicultural Treatments in Natural Deciduous Forests of Pyungchang Area (평창지역 천연 활엽수림의 작업방법별 시업전후 임분구조 변화)

  • The objective of this study was to estimate the changes of stand structure before and after applying the three different silvicultural treatments such as selection cutting system, two-storied system, and shelterwood system. This study has been conducted in the natural deciduous forests in Pyungchang of Gangwon Province, Korea. Three permanent sampling plots of 0.09 ha were established in the forests and the three silvicultural treatments were applied in 2008. For this study, some tree variables were measured in each stand before and after the silvicultural treatments were applied. With these data, stand attributes were estimated in each stand before and after the silvicultural treatments. In this study, four stand structure indices were used to analyze the differences among structures of stands managed by three different silvicultural treatments. Contagion index, DBH-difference index, height-difference index, and mingling index were estimated and compared to analyze the differences of stand structures among the stands before and after silvicultural treatments. Duncan's multiple range test and t-test were then employed to statistically analyze the difference of stand structure among the stands. The results revealed that all of the stand structure indices seem to be increased after applying the silvicultural treatments. There are significant differences in the stand structure indices between before and after silvicultural treatments for each stand. According to the evaluation of stand structure indices, it was confirmed that spatial structure of the stands was improved by applying the silvicultural treatments. For attaining the specific goal of each stand types acquired by different silvicultural treatments, the frequencies and amounts of additional practices should be decided based on the changes of stand structure as time passed.

  • A Variable Structure Model Reference Adaptive Controller (VS-MRAC) using state Variables is proposed for single input multi output systems. . The structure of the switching functions is designed based on stability requirements, and global exponential stability is proved. Transient behavior is analyzed using sliding mode control and shows perfect model following at a finite time. The effect of input disturbances on stability and transients is investigated and shows preference to the conventional MRAC schemes with integral adaptation law. Sliding surfaces are independent of system parameters and therefore VS-MRAC is insensitive to system parameter variations. Simulation is presented to clear the theoretical results.

  • In this paper, we consider the problem of designing a simple learning variable structure system for repeatable tracking control of robot manipulators. We combine a variable structure control law as the robust part for stabilization and a feedforward learning law as the intelligent part for nonlinearity compensation. We show that the tracking error asymptotically converges to zero. Finally, we give computer simulation results in order to show the effectiveness of our method.

  • In this paper, we present a new adaptive filter structure which is based on polyphase decomposition of the filter to be adapted. This structure uses wavelet transform to acquire transform-domain coefficients of the input signal. With this coefficients RLS algorithm is used for adaptation. Particularly, using the polyphase parallel structure, we can trace the system which has very long impulse response with only increasing the subband, and show that computational savings can be achieved. The proposed structure was applied to system identification for performance estimation and compared with fullband adaptive filter.

  • In this paper, a new simple integral variable structure controller is designed with incorporating the actuator dynamics. The formulation of the VSS (variable structure system) controller design includes integral augmented sliding surface and the dynamics of the actuator expressed as the state equation. An illustrative example is given to show the effectiveness of the developed controller.

  • The oil in water type ME of 4 component system was composed with POE monoalkyl ether and POE sorbitan monoalkyl ester as surfactant, saturated hydrocarbon, side chain structure and aromatic structure as oil, and glycerine as cosurfactant using high pressure homogenizer. The objective of this study was to examine the role of surfactant and oil structure on droplet size and stability. The experimental results showed that the droplet size was smaller with bigger polarity of oil, less hydrocarbon, longer hydrophilic chain of surfactant and higher concentration of glycerine. SQ and LP systems showed very stable but AB and ISB system unstable microemulsion.

  • Nowadays there are numerous factors to design the structure even for simple one, but many parts of the work are similar to the existing or repeated simply. In this case, design of the structure is unnecessarily needed lots of effort and time. To solve difficulties of design, an integrated design automation system for retaining wall structures that widely used is developed. The automation system consists of following items, 1) XML data structure between modules, 2) CAD visualization system to provide drawing sheets, 3) excel solution to provide structural design sheets and bills of quantity, 4) design logic to analysis and calculate behaviors of structure, and 5) GUI to represent data and results for the program.

  • In order to care about preserving the environment for future generations, each country has been required to make the laws of the environment. So car manufacturers must design, manufacture and sell cars and trucks that meet customer's need and must do this while meeting the needs of the environment. In this research we have developed product structure and configuration management system that treats electronic catalogs for recycling of automobile parts. This research focused on two system. One is XML-based electronic catalog that give the information about recycling of automobile parts. The other is product structure and configuration management system based on electronic catalog.

  • The concrete structures designed and constructed by conventional design concept based on structural performance consideration show sometimes serious durability problem when the structures are exposed to aggressive environment. Because present design system focuses on the structure safety and considers durability indirectly by the concrete mix design and cover depth, the durability of concrete structure cannot be ensured. As the first step to develope the durability design for concrete structure, durability index which represents internal concrete resistance and environment index which represents external environmental exposure are derived quantitatively. In the next step, the durability design system is developed by checking durability limit state with computed two indexes under service life condition by considering of the reliability of structure. Finally, the proposed system is verified with a model problem.
