  • This research examines the mediation of intrinsic motivation (IP) in the relationship between psychological capital (Psycap) and innovative performance (IP) in the educational environment of the transitioning economy. A test was based on a convenient sample of 440 University lecturers participating in a hardcopy survey was collected from ten universities and colleges in Southern Vietnam, from April 2020 to December 2020, while social isolation is strictly enforced by the government (Covid-19). The hypotheses are then proposed and conducted using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and the structural equation modeling technique (SEM). The testing structural model results reveal that all the hypotheses are satisfied at the 5% significance level. Intrinsic motivation is a partial mediator in the linkage between psychological capital and innovative performance. These findings suggest that the importance of Psychological Capital (PsyCap) of workers promotes job performance in general, especially in individuals' creativity in a transitioning market, Vietnam. In addition, Based on the research results, several solutions are also proposed to promote innovative performance in the conditions of education in Vietnam. Besides, the author also gave a few comments on the findings as well as the limitations that this study encountered, especially how the survey samples were collected.

  • In this study, alternative seismic force-resisting systems for plant structure supporting equipment were designed, and the seismic performance thereof was compared using nonlinear dynamic analysis. One alternative seismic force-resisting system was designed per the requirement for ordinary moment-resisting and concentrically braced frames but with a reduced base shear. The other seismic force-resisting system was designed by accommodating seismic details of intermediate and unique moment-resisting frames and special concentrically braced frames. Different plastic hinge models were applied to ordinary and ductile systems based on the validation using existing test results. The control model obtained by code-based flexible design and/or reduction of base shear did not satisfy the seismic performance objectives, but the alternative structural system did by strengthened panel zones and a reduced effective buckling length. The seismic force to equipment calculated from the nonlinear dynamic analysis was significantly lower than the equivalent static force of KDS 41 17 00. The comparison of design alternatives showed that the seismic performance required for a plant structure could be secured economically by using performance-based design and alternative seismic-force resisting systems adopting minimally modified seismic details.

  • Molded pulp products has become more attractive than traditional materials such as expanded polystyrene foam (EPS) owing to low-priced recycled paper, environmental benefits such as biodegradability, and low production cost. In this study, various design factors regarding compression and cushioning characteristics of the molded pulp cushion with truncated pyramid-shaped structural units were analyzed using a test specimen with multiple structural units. The adopted structural factors were the geometric shape, wall thickness, and depth of the structural unit. The relative humidity was set at two levels. We derived the cushion curve model of the target molded pulp cushion using the stress-energy methodology. The coefficient of determination was approximately 0.8, which was lower than that for EPS (0.98). The cushioning performance of the molded pulp cushion was affected more by the structural factors of the structural unit than by the material characteristics. Repeated impacts, higher static stress, and drop height decreased the cushioning performance. Its compression behavior was investigated in four stages: elastic, first buckling, sub-buckling, and densification. It had greater rigidity during initial deformation stages; then, during plastic deformation, the rigidity was greatly reduced. The compression behavior was influenced by structural factors such as the geometric shape and depth of the structural unit and environmental conditions, rather than material properties. The biggest difference in the compression and cushioning characteristics of molded pulp cushion compared to EPS is that it is greatly affected by structural factors, and in addition, strength and resilience are expected to decrease due to humidity and repetitive loads, so future research is needed.

  • It is necessary to guarantee the safety, serviceability and durability of reinforced concrete structures over their service life. However, concrete structures represent a decrease in their durability due to the effects of external environments according to the passage of time, and such degradation in durability can cause structural degradation in materials. In concrete structures, some degradations in durability increase the corrosion of embedded rebars and also decrease the structural performance of materials. Thus, the structural condition assessment of RC materials damaged by corrosion of rebars becomes an important factor that judges needs to apply restoration. In order to detect the damage of reinforced concrete structures, a visual inspection, a nondestructive evaluation method(NDE) and a specific loading test have been employed. However, obscurities for visual inspection and inaccessible members raise difficulty in evaluating structure condition. For these reasons, detection of location and quantification of the damage in structures via structural response have been one of the very important topics in system identification research. The main objective of this project is to develope a methodologies for the damage identification via static responses of the members damaged by durability. Six reinforced concrete beams with variables of corrosion position and corrosion width were fabricated and the damage detections of corroded RC beams were performed by the optimization and the conjugate beam methods using static deflection. In results it is proved that the conjugate beam method could predict the damage of RC members practically.

  • This study investigated the ultimate lateral load capacity of shear walls constructed with several types of structural foam sheathing. Sixteen tests were conducted and the results were compared to the published design values commutated by the manufactures for each test series. The sheathing products included 12.7 mm (1/2 in) SI-Strong, 25.4 mm (1 in) SI-Strong, 12.7 mm (1/2 in) R-Max Thermasheath, and 2 mm (0.078 in) ThermoPly Green. The structural foam sheathing was attached per the manufacturers' specification to one side of the wood frame for each wall tested. Standard 12.7 mm (1/2 in) gypsum wallboard was screwed to the opposite side of the frame. Simpson HDQ8 tie-down anchors were screwed to the terminal studs at each end of the wall and anchored to the base of the testing apparatus. Both monotonic and cyclic testing following ASTM E564 and ASTM E2126, respectively, were considered. Results from the monotonic tests showed an 11 to 27 percent smaller capacity when compared to the published design values. Likewise, the test results from the cyclic tests showed a 24 to 45 percent smaller capacity than the published design values and did not meet the seismic performance design criteria computation.

  • Prism compressive strength is the most influential parameter to evaluate the seismic performance of non-structural concrete brick masonry walls, and is affected by the practice and workmanship of masonry workers. This study experimentally investigates the influence of workmanship on prism compressive strength throughout the compressive test with prism specimens constructed according to masonry workmanship. To do this, the workmanship is categorized into good, fair, and poor conditions which are statistically evaluated with thickness and indentation depth of bed-joints. Then, the effect of workmanship on the structural properties of masonry prisms is evaluated by investigating relations between properties such as their compressive strength, elastic modulus and numerical parameters such as thickness, filling of bed-joints. This study demonstrates that the indentation depth is more important parameter for structural properties of masonry prisms and masonry prisms with loss in bed-joint area less than of 7% can be in fair condition.

  • Since the double-deck tunnel is deeply constructed in the city, it is necessary to secure the installation space of air supply and exhaust, escape passage stairs, elevator, distribution facilities and connection tunnels in the vertical shaft for the double-deck tunnel. Also, in order to minimize the effect of construction on adjacent area, it is necessary to construct the concrete structures at high speed in vertical shaft after tunnel excavation. Therefore, the slabs and the stairs in vertical shaft are needed to be constructed using precast concrete, and the rapid construction techniques of bracket for supporting the inner precast structure are needed. The bracket installation methods include cast-in-place concrete, precast concrete and steel. In this study, the improvement of the steel brackets with good economical efficiency and good workability was carried out in consideration of the improvement of the construction speed. We have developed a new bracket that is optimized through bracket shape improvement, anchor bolt position adjustment and quantity optimization. As a result of the structural performance test, it was confirmed that the required load supporting capacity was secured. As a result of structural performance test for bar type anchor bolt and bent anchor anchor bolt, it was confirmed that the required load carrying capacity was secured and that the load bearing capacity of bent anchor bolt was large.

  • The use of structural wood based panels like plywood, OSB in many applications involves the use of nails, and data on the performance of panel-nail connection are needed for design and comparative purpose. This study was carried out to develop basic information on nail performance(withdrawal, embedding, nailhead push through) with water absorption in plywood and OSB. In withdrawal resistance test, initial stiffness of plywood performed better than OSB in 24hr soaked condition. The soaked condition reduced average nail withdrawal resistance value about 46% (12d mail), 53%(8d nail) in OSB, 17%(12d mail), 24%(8d mail) in plywood. The nail embedding strength of plywood also performed better than that of OSB and retention value(wet strength/dry strength) yielded similar in each nail types. The nail head push through capacity of OSB was higher than that of plywood in dry condition, but equal or lower in soaked condition. Therefore, critical consideration about structural panels is required in moist applications. The average values of nail withdrawal, nail embedding strength and nail head push through resistance of tested materials meet the minimum requirement of various specification and standards.
