In swarm robot systems, each robot must behaves by itself according to the its states and environments, and if necessary, must cooperates with other robots in order to carry out a given task. Therefore it is essential that each robot has both learning and evolution ability to adapt the dynamic environments. In this paper, reinforcement learning method using many SVM based on structural risk minimization and distributed genetic algorithms is proposed for behavior learning and evolution of collective autonomous mobile robots. By distributed genetic algorithm exchanging the chromosome acquired under different environments by communication each robot can improve its behavior ability. Specially, in order to improve the performance of evolution, selective crossover using the characteristic of reinforcement learning that basis of Cascade SVM is adopted in this paper.
The named entity recognition task is one of the most important subtasks in Information Extraction. In this paper, we describe a Korean named entity recognition using structural Support Vector Machines (structural SVMs) and modified Pegasos algorithm. Using the proposed approach, we could achieve an 85.43% F1 and an 86.79% F1 for 15 named entity types on TV domain and sports domain, respectively. Moreover, we reduced the training time to 4% without loss of performance compared to Conditional Random Fields (CRFs).

Fiber reinforced polymer(FRP) composite decks are new to bridge applications and hence not much literature exists on their structural mechanical behavior. As there are many differences between numerical displacements through static analysis of the primary model and experimental displacements through static load tests, system identification (SI)techniques such as Neural Networks (NN) and support vector machines (SVM) utilized in the optimization of the FE model. During the process of identification, displacements were used as input while stiffness as outputs. Through the comparison of numerical displacements after SI and experimental displacements, it can note that NN and SVM would be effective SI methods in modeling an FRP deck. Moreover, two methods such as response surface method and iteration were proposed to optimize the estimated stiffness. Finally, the results were compared through the mean square error (MSE) of the differences between numerical displacements and experimental displacements at 6 points.

Support Vector Machine (SVM) which has roots in a statistical learning theory is a training algorithm based on structural risk minimization. Generally, SVM algorithm uses the kernel for determining a linearly non-separable boundary and classifying the data. But, classical kernels can not apply to effectively the hyperspectral image classification because it measures similarity using vector's dot-product or euclidian distance. So, This paper proposes the spectral similarity kernel to solve this problem. The spectral similariy kernel that calculate both vector's euclidian and angle distance is a local kernel, it can effectively consider a reflectance property of hyperspectral image. For validating our algorithm, SVM which used polynomial kernel, RBF kernel and proposed kernel was applied to land cover classification in Hyperion image. It appears that SVM classifier using spectral similarity kernel has the most outstanding result in qualitative and spatial estimation.

An efficient and accurate classification method for failure modes of reinforced concrete (RC) columns was proposed based on key characteristic parameters. The weight coefficients of seven characteristic parameters for failure modes of RC columns were determined first based on the support vector machine-recursive feature elimination. Then key characteristic parameters for classifying flexure, flexure-shear and shear failure modes of RC columns were selected respectively. Subsequently, a support vector machine with key characteristic parameters (SVM-K) was proposed to classify three types of failure modes of RC columns. The optimal parameters of SVM-K were determined by using the ten-fold cross-validation and the grid-search algorithm based on 270 sets of available experimental data. Results indicate that the proposed SVM-K has high overall accuracy, recall and precision (e.g., accuracy>95%, recall>90%, precision>90%), which means that the proposed SVM-K has superior performance for classification of failure modes of RC columns. Based on the selected key characteristic parameters for different types of failure modes of RC columns, the accuracy of SVM-K is improved and the decision function of SVM-K is simplified by reducing the dimensions and number of support vectors.
Steel girders are the structural members often used for passing long spans. Mostly being subjected to patch loading, or concentrated loading, steel girders are likely to face sudden deformation or damage e.g., web breathing. Horizontal or vertical stiffeners are employed to overcome this phenomenon. This study aims at assessing the feasibility of a machine learning method, namely the support vector machines (SVM) in predicting the patch loading resistance of longitudinally stiffened webs. A database consisting of 162 test data is utilized to develop SVM models and the model with best performance is selected for further inspection. Existing formulations proposed by other researchers are also investigated for comparison. BS5400 and other existing models (model I, model II and model III) appear to yield underestimated predictions with a large scatter; i.e., mean experimental-to-predicted ratios of 1.517, 1.092, 1.155 and 1.256, respectively; whereas the selected SVM model has high prediction accuracy with significantly less scatter. Robust nature and accurate predictions of SVM confirms its feasibility of potential use in solving complex engineering problems.

This paper presents the target detection method using Support Vector Machines(SVMs) and the navigation system using behavior-based fuzzy controller. SVM is a machine-learning method based on the principle of structural risk minimization, which performs well when applied to data outside the training set. We formulate detection of target objects as a supervised-learning problem and apply SVM to detect at each location in the image whether a target object is present or not. The behavior-based fuzzy controller is implemented as an individual priority behavior: the highest level behavior is target-seeking, the middle level behavior is obstacle-avoidance, the lowest level is an emergency behavior. We have implemented and tested the proposed method in our mobile robot "Pioneer2-AT". Comparing with a neural-network based detection method, a SVM illustrate the excellence of the proposed method.

MANET has vulnerable structure on security owing to structural characteristics as follows. MANET consisted of moving nodes is that every nodes have to perform function of router. Every node has to provide reliable routing service in cooperation each other. These properties are caused by expose to various attacks. But, it is difficult that position of environment intrusion detection system is established, information is collected, and particularly attack is detected because of moving of nodes in MANET environment. It is not easy that important profile is constructed also. In this paper, conformal predictor - support vector machine(CP-SVM) based intrusion detection technique was proposed in order to do more accurate and efficient intrusion detection. In this study, IDS-agents calculate p value from collected packet and transmit to cluster head, and then other all cluster head have same value and detect abnormal behavior using the value. Cluster form of hierarchical structure was used to reduce consumption of nodes also. Effectiveness of proposed method was confirmed through experiment.
A support vector machine (SVM) is a state-of-the-art machine learning model rooted in structural risk minimization. SVM is underestimated with regards to its application to real world problems because of the difficulties associated with its use. We aim at showing that the performance of SVM highly depends on which kernel function to use. To achieve these, after providing a summary of support vector machines and kernel function, we constructed experiments with various benchmark datasets to compare the performance of various kernel functions. For evaluating the performance of SVM, the F1-score and its Standard Deviation with 10-cross validation was used. Furthermore, we used taylor diagrams to reveal the difference between kernels. Finally, we provided Python codes for all our experiments to enable re-implementation of the experiments.
