  • The objective of this study was to examine the optimal concentration and the exposure time of ethanol, Ca-ionophore, and strontium to achieve massive recipient oocytes in porcine. The cleavage (51.4% vs. $21.3{\sim}44.3%$) and embryo development rates (45% vs. $13.3{\sim}29.9%$) were significantly higher (p.0.05) in oocytes treated with 10% ethanol for 10 min than other treatments. The oocytes treated with 25mM Ca-ionophore for a minimum of 2min and 20mM strontium for a minimum of 6h showed significantly higher cleavage and embryo development rates than those of other treatments (P<0.05). Cleavage rate with duplicated ethanol treatment was significantly lower than those with ethanol alone (P<0.05). The cleavage rate and embryo development rates were significantly lower in duplicated strontium treatment than those in both alone and combination (P<0.05). But the cleavage and embryo development rates in treatment with Ca-ionophore were significantly higher in combined treatment (Ca-ionophore and cycloheximide) than those in single or duplicated treatment (P<0.05). These results might induce establishment of the optimal concentration and the exposure time on activation media to build up activation condition of porcine oocytes.

  • The absorption and translocation of strontium-90 by soybean plant, Glycine max, was studied by applying strontium-90 solution on the foliage or on the soil surface right after the first flowering time under greenhouse conditions. The results are summarized as follows. In the foliar application of strontium-90, only a small portion of the radioactivity was translocated to other parts of the plant and most of it remained in the applied leaves, which should cause soil contamination after falling. In the soil surface application of strontium-90, much of the radioactivity was absorbed through the root and translocated to stems and leaves by different patterns depending on the growth stage.

  • The problem of water contamination by long-living cesium and strontium radionuclides is an urgent environmental issue. The development of facile and efficient technologies based on nanostructured adsorbents is a perspective for selective radionuclides removal. In this regard, current work aimed to obtain the nanostructured magnetic zeolite composites with high adsorption performance to cesium and strontium ions. The optimal conditions of hydrothermal synthesis were established based on XRD, SEM-EDX, N2 adsorption-desorption, VSM, and batch adsorption experiment data. The role of chemical composition, textural characteristics, and surface morphology was demonstrated. The monolayer ionexchange mechanism was proposed based on adsorption isotherm modeling. The highest Langmuir adsorption capacity of 229.6 and 105.1 mg/g towards cesium and strontium ions was reached for composite obtained at 90 ℃ hydrothermal treatment. It was shown that magnetic characteristics of zeolite composites allowing to separate spent adsorbents by a magnet from aqueous solutions.

  • This study evaluates the influence of strontium addition and holding time on mechanical properties for Al-10.5wt%Si-2wt%Cu secondary die-casting alloy and the measured electrical conductivity of modified alloys. A general improvement in the mechanical properties of the alloy was observed after adding the strontium. Ultimate tensile strength, elongation and electrical conductivity of modified alloys were improved by increasing strontium content and holding time. From these results, the optimal strontium content and holding time were identified on the mechanical properties of Al-10.5wt%Si-2wt%Cu secondary die-casting alloys.

  • Formation of Strontium titanate from the products of coprecipitation takes place at 110$0^{\circ}C$ which is 200-30$0^{\circ}C$ lower than that from mechanical mixtures of $SrCO_3$ and $TiO_2$. This is apparently due to the nature of the compounds formed by the reaction of mixtures of aqueous solutions of $SrCl_2$ and $TiCl_4$ with an ammoniacal solution of ammoni-um carbonate and ammonium hydroxide. A procedure is described for preparing strontium titanyl oxalate tetrahydrate in the several mole ratio of $TiCl_4$ to $SrCl_2$. STrontium titanyl oxalates decompose to titanate at elevated temperature. The coprecipitates and the fired specimen were subjected to examined thermal and X-ray analyses and microstruc-ture by SEM.

  • In this study, using strontium sulfate (SrSO4) recovered from magnetite ore in Hongcheon, the Black Ash process was used to produce strontium carbonate (SrCO3). In the carbothermic reaction step, SrSO4 was reacted with carbon (C) at 1273 K under Ar gas atmosphere using a gas-tight quartz reactor to produce strontium sulfide (SrS). Afterward, water leaching of the residues produced from the carbothermic reaction at 353 K and carbonation of the leaching solution using sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) at 298 K were conducted to produce SrCO3. The results of this study demonstrate the feasibility of the production of SrCO3 via the Black Ash process using domestic magnetite ore containing strontium (Sr).

  • M-Zn (M = Sb, V, Nb) substituted M-type strontium hexaferrites were prepared by a ceramic method. The phase composition, morphology and magnetic properties were studied by x-ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscopy and vibrating sample magnetometry. Saturation magnetization increases with a substitution up to 75.0 emu/g (2.5 % higher compared to unsubstituted hexaferrite) and then decreases with a further substitution. A coercive field of substituted hexaferrite powders with highest saturation magnetization is more than 3 kOe. Substituted strontium hexaferrite powders prepared in this work are a rare example of high $M_S$ compositions without doping rare-earth elements and would be a promising candidate for a permanent magnet application.
