Background : Various type of psychological and stressful events in life have been reported to have much effect in the onset, progress and exacerbation of psychosomatic disorders such as hypertension, bronchial asthma, peptic ulcer, tension headache, alopecia areata, and atopic dermatitis. However, the nature of the association between stress and psychosomatic disorders remains unclear. Objective : The purpose of this study is to determine the relation of stress and the progress of dermatologic disorder. Method : We examined 30 patients with atopic dermatitis and 30 control subjects with tinea pedis and onychomycosis who visited to Dept. of Dermatology, Chung-Ang University Hospital. To evaluate the stress, we used 'Scale of Life Events' and 'Multidemensional Coping Scale'. Result : 1) The score of life events stress in atopic dermatitis group was significantly higher than that of control group. 2) In the result of coping strategies, the atopic dermatitis group was significantly higher than control group at the active forgetting, positive comparison, and emotional pacification, while in control group religious seeking and accomodation tended to be higher with no statistical significance. Conclusion : These findings suggest that psychosocial stress may play a role in life pattern of atopic dermatitis. But further studies are needed to clarity the exact relationship between stress and psychosomatic disorder.
This descriptive study was done to identify the relationship between coping style and trait anxiety in patients undergoing cardiac catheterization. The subjects selected were 69 patients who were scheduled for cardiac catheterization in S hospital from , November 1st, 1994 to May 30th, 1995. Data collection was done using Spielberger's Trait Anxiety Scale, Bendig's Short Form of the Manifest Anxiety Scale, Crowne & Morlowe's Social Desirability Scale, Millers Behavioral Style Scale, Information Subscale of Krantz Health Opinion Survey and Visual Analog Scale about informaton seeking behavior. The summary of the findings is as follows : 1. No significant relationship was found between the general characteristics of age, sex, marital status, level of education and occupation, and the variables coping style and trait anxiety. 2. The mean of trait anxiety scores for the Spielberger Scale was 46.68. It is slightly above average. The subjects were classified as to personality type: truely low anxious 25 (36.2%), highly anxious 25 (36.2%), and repressing 16 (23.2%), using a combination of scores from the Bendig Short Form Anxiety Scale and the Crowne Marlowe Social Desirability Scales. 3. No significant relationship was found between Spielberger s trait anxiety and Bendig's personality type. 4. Each subject's preference for either monitor or blunter coping strategy was assessed via the Miller Behavioral Style Scale. The proportion of Monitors (47.8%) and Blunters (52.2%) among the subjects were similar. The means of preference for information measured on the Krantz's subscale and Visual Analog Scale were 4.18, 80.79 respectively. Because these scores appeared above average, subjects tended to be higher seeker an information rather than avoiding it. 5. There was no significant relationship between Miller's Behavioral Style and Spielberger's trait anxiety. 6. There was no significant relationships between Bendig's personality types. and the preference on information of Krantz's and Visual Analog Scale. and Miller's Behavioral Styles. But 56.0% of the subjects who were highly anxious used Monitor strategy for coping. Findings from the current study do not permit any relationship inferences between coping style and trait anxiety. Patients undergoing cardiac catheterization must receive interventions on stress reduction because the cardiac 'catheterization creats a situation of psychological stress. Therefore, the nursing intervention of providing information about cardiac catheterization have to be given based on each patient's coping style and on their trait anxiety.

Objectives : This study was aimed to investigate stress and coping strategy in the families of schizophrenic patient, and changes of knowledge, stress and coping strategy after brief program of family education compared with control group Methods : The education group consisted of twenty four people who were families with schizophrenic patients and attended the brief program of family education. The control group consisted of twenty two people with schizophrenic inpatients. Self-report questionnaires such as Family Coping Questionnaire(FCQ), Patient Rejection Scale(PRS), Worry Questionnaire, Knowledge Questionnaire, Beck Depression Inventory(BDI), and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory(STAI) were administered to the education group and the control group, twice at the pre-test and post-test. Results : 1) In the education group, scores of worry questionnaire, BDI and STAI-S at the post-test were significantly lower than those at the pre-test. Social interests score of FCQ and knowledge questionnaire score at the post-test were significantly higher than those at the pre-test. In FCQ factors, social interests associated with avoidance strategy score at the post-test was significantly higher than that at the pre-test. However, in the control group, there was no significant difference in all questionnaires. 2) In the education group, significant positive correlation existed between calculated differences of worry questionnaire and STAI-S, and between worry questionnaire and STAI-T, whereas significant negative correlation existed between positive communication of FCQ and PRS, and between knowledge questionnaire and STAI-S. In the control group, significant negative correlation existed between information of FCQ and PRS, and between positive communication of FCQ and PRS. 3) In the education group, significant positive correlation existed between calculated differences of worry questionnaire and age of patient, whereas significant negative correlation existed between knowledge questionnaire and duration of illness. However, in the control group, there was no significant correlation. Conclusion : The brief program of family education was effective in increasing knowledge about schizophrenia, decreasing worry and anxiety about the patients in families with schizophrenic patient. In the education group as knowledge about schizophrenia increased, anxiety about schizophrenic patient decreased, but there was no significant correlation in the control group. As relative's rejection feeling about schizophrenic patient decreased, positive communication strategy increased in both groups. However, the control group was more affected by rejection feeling than the education group.

The aims of this study were to investigate the effects of verbal violence experienced during clinical practice, emotional responses, academic stress coping, and depression on professional self-concepts of nursing students. Data were collected through a self-reported structured questionnaire form given to nursing students in grades 3-4 using convenient sampling methods from October 25 to November 1, 2017. As a result, 41.9% of the subjects experienced verbal violence during clinical practice. The frequency of experiences for verbal violence was '1 time' at 16.9%, '2 times' at 15.5%, and '3 times' at 4.7%. The verbal violence attackers were patients (42.9%), nurses (37.7%), and protector (15.5%). Emotional response was positively correlated with depression and frequency of verbal violence. Academic stress coping had a negative correlation with depression and a positive correlation with professional self-concept. Depression was negatively correlated with professional self-concept. Multiple regression analysis showed that academic stress coping and depression were statistically significant variables in the professional self-concept, and these variables had a 28% explanatory power. Therefore, in order to improve the professional self-concept of nursing students, it is necessary to develop a strategy to raise the level of academic stress coping and to reduce depression.
The aim of this study is to examine the longitudinal mediation effect of coping strategies(emotion-focused, problem-focused, and maladaptive) on the relationship between perceived stress during the COVID-19 andemic and psychological distress(negative affect, depression, anxiety, and anger). ). Also, This study sought to find generational differences between coping strategies used during the COVID-19 pandemic. The participants were 941 adult aged between twenties and seventies. The final participants were recruited on two separated longitudinal time points, Time 1 and Time 2. The result were as follows: Only Maladaptive coping strategy(Time 2) had a mediating effect on the relationship between COVID-19 stress(Time 1) and psychological distress(Time 2). . The result of the generation-based multi-group analysis did not yield significant differences in the use of coping strategies. This study is meaningful that it longitudinally examined the psychological distress of adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. Implications, limitations and directions for future research are presented.
A Convergence study was conducted to investigate the factors influencing the burnout in caregivers and to present a strategy for effective program development. The subjects of this study were 185 caregivers who had worked for 6 months in a G city Nursing facility and distributed the self-reported questionnaire in September 2015. Data were analyzed using t-test, one-way ANOVA, $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test, Pearson's correlation coefficient and Stepwise multiple regression analysis were performed. According to the results, the identified influencing factors were stress of personal role and daily work factors(${\beta}=.307$, p<.001), stress of relationship with supervisors(${\beta}=.186$, p<.021), confidence(${\beta}=.182$, p<.005), passive coping(${\beta}=.140$, p<.035) with burnout in caregivers. The explanatory power($R^2$) by 4 variables was 27.5%. Based on the results of this study, it would be necessary to develop an burnout reduction program that can reduce stress, increase self-confidence, and diversify coping strategies in order to reduce burnout of caregivers.
Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the strategies used to cope with stress and the cognitive characteristics of somatic symptom perception in patients with panic disorder. Methods : A total of 101 patients who met the DSM-IV criteria for panic disorder and 60 normal controls were recruited for participation in this study. We evaluated the subjects using The Way of Stress Coping Questionnaire (SCQ), Somato-Sensory Amplification Scale (SSAS), Symptom Interpretation Questionnaire (SIQ), and the Panic Disorder Severity Scale (PDSS). We analyzed the data using an independent t-test and Pearson correlation analysis (p<0.05). Results : The patients who used emotionally focused coping strategies scored significantly lower on the SCQ. The patients with panic disorder showed greater amplification of body sensations in the SSAS, a significantly higher score on the physical interpretation subset of the SIQ, and a lower score on the environmental interpretation subset of the SIQ than the normal controls. The PDSS scores were positively correlated with the SSAS score and physical interpretation score on the SIQ. Conclusion : These results show that patients with panic disorder have poor emotionally focused strategies for coping with stress, greater amplification of body sensations, and a tendency towards a physical interpretation of somatic symptoms.
This paper studied the stress of Metropolitan Transit driving crews. Stress to such workers can not only lead to fatalities and infrastructure damage but also enormous loss of competitiveness. The study was carried out to search for ways of alleviating stress of driving crews. In order to reduce the various factors that exacerbate job stress of driving crews of Metropolitan Transit, it is first necessary to expand training in order to enhance their expertise, and improve facilities to protect driving crews in the event of accidents. Second, psychological compensation or organization's systems may cause job stress. It may therefore be possible to solve fundamental problems through typical organization level approach such as leadership training programs. Third, job stress may be reduced through proper life habits such as personal regular exercise. Fourth, we need to improve driving crews' working conditions and adjust working hours by avoiding excessive performance competition and an unfair evaluation system, by understanding their mental states, and by setting up systems such as a comprehensive health improvement and management program at the organization level.

The purpose of the study was to examine the relationships between cognitive coping, sick role behavioral compliance, depression, and life satisfaction of hemodialysis patients based on the stress-coping model. The research is cross-sectional survey, 150 participants were recruited from 4 local clinics in Chungcheongbuk-do. As a results, the cognitive coping scores were significantly related to sick role behavioral compliance, depression, and life satisfaction. The coping strategies explained 20.5%, 10.5%, and 24.6% of the variances in sick role behavioral compliance, depression, and life satisfaction, respectively. The most powerful coping strategy was positive refocusing in sick role behavioral compliance, depression, and life satisfaction. The results of the study indicate that cognitive coping plays an essential role for psychological adaptation of hemodialysis patients. Therefore, the development and application of intervention program to improve adaption of hemodialysis patients are required.

The effects of positive psychology promoting programs for undergraduate nursing students were evaluated. The study was designed using a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design; data were collected between June 22 and September 4, 2019. The participants were 37 nursing students, who were assigned to an experimental group (n=18) and a control group (n=19) at two colleges in D and P city. The positive psychology-promoting program was provided for six weeks (12 sessions, 100~120 min.). The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, t-test, 𝑥2 test, repeated measure ANOVA, and paired t-test with the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. After receiving the positive psychology-promoting program, a difference in optimism (F=16.74, p<.001), psychological well-being (F=14.69, p<.001), and stress-coping strategy (problem solving; F=4.35, p=.015, social support; F=3.87, p=.028) was observed between the experimental and control groups. The results indicate that the positive psychology-promoting program was effective in increasing optimism, psychological well-being, and stress coping strategy in undergraduate nursing students. These findings will contribute to the development of a program to improve the mental health of undergraduate nursing students.
