The experimental and numerical works were carried out on high performance fiber reinforced concrete (HPFRC) with w/cm ratios ranging from 0.25 to 0.40, fiber volume fraction (Vf)=0-1.5% and 10% silica fume replacement. Improvements in compressive and flexural strengths obtained for HPFRC are moderate and significant, respectively, Empirical equations developed for the compressive strength and flexural strength of HPFRC as a function of fiber volume fraction. A relation between flexural strength and compressive strength of HPFRC with R=0.78 was developed. Due to the complex mix proportions and non-linear relationship between the mix proportions and properties, models with reliable predictive capabilities are not developed and also research on HPFRC was empirical. In this paper due to the inadequacy of present method, a back propagation-neural network (BP-NN) was employed to estimate the 28-day compressive strength of HPFRC mixes. BP-NN model was built to implement the highly non-linear relationship between the mix proportions and their properties. This paper describes the data sets collected, training of ANNs and comparison of the experimental results obtained for various mixtures. On statistical analyses of collected data, a multiple linear regression (MLR) model with R2=0.78 was developed for the prediction of compressive strength of HPFRC mixes, and average absolute error (AAE) obtained is 6.5%. On validation of the data sets by NNs, the error range was within 2% of the actual values. ANN model has given the significant degree of accuracy and reliability compared to the MLR model. ANN approach can be effectively used to estimate the 28-day compressive strength of fibrous concrete mixes and is practical.
We herein propose a new design procedure of a flexible container ship model where the vertical bending and torsional vibration modes are similar to its prototype. To achieve similarity in torsional vibration mode shapes, the height of the shear center of the model must be located below the bottom hull, similar to an actual container ship with large opening decks. Therefore, we designed a ship model by imparting appropriate stiffness to the hull, using urethane foam without a backbone. We built a container ship model according to this design strategy and validated its dynamic elastic properties using a decay test. We measured wave-induced structural vibrations and present the results of tank experiments in regular and freak waves.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the fascia distortion model (FDM), one of the fascia treatments, on unstable ankle subjects. This was done through the chronic ankle instability tool (CAIT) questionnaire on maximum isometric muscle strength, proprioception, dynamic balance, and maximum angle. Methods: An experiment was conducted using the chronic ankle instability tool questionnaire on males and females in their twenties who suffered from ankle instability. Before the experiment, maximum isometric strength, proprioceptive, dynamic balance, and maximum angle were measured. The fascia distortion model was applied and then measurements were taken again to compare and analyze the changes. Analysis was carried out using the paired t-test. Results: After applying the fascia distortion model, maximum isometric strength, proprioceptive, dynamic balance, and maximum angle significantly improved (p<0.05). Conclusion: This study found that the fascia distortion model method was effective in improving maximum isometric strength, proprioceptive, dynamic balance, and maximum angle. The results suggest that the fascia distortion model method is a new intervention that could be used for subjects with chronic ankle instability.

One of main issues in watermarking is to resolve the strength of watermark for solving the problem of trade-off between fidelity and robustness of watermarking. In the previous research, the strength of watermark has been resolved fixed value generally without considering local image characteristics such as image brightness, contrast, and edge. This paper proposes a new model to predict the strength of watermark considering local image characteristics such as image brightness, contrast, and edge for digital wavelet transform(DWT)-based image watermarking. For the study, psychological experiment was fulfilled to measure the human image perception and regression analysis showed the proposed model was statistically significant at the level of ${\alpha}\;=\;0.01$. Also the model is practically validated on fidelity and robustness of watermarking.
In the present study, a new approach to predict the strength of sintered materials has been carried out and a new framework combining neck growth model and ideal pore model has been established based on the results of tensile tests on powder injection molded specimens with the various porosity. Powder injection molding (PIM) uses the shaping advantage of injection molding but is applicable to metals and ceramics. PIM delivers structural materials in a shaping technology previously restricted to polymers. 17-4 PH stainless steel powders with average diameters of 10 $\mu\textrm{m}$ were injection-molded into flat tensile specimens sintered at the various temperatures ranging from 900 to 1350$^{\circ}C$ for 1h. The relationships between strength and porosity were applied to the experimental results and verified.
We consider the stress-strength model in which a unit of strength $T_2$ is subjected to environmental stress $T_1$. An important measure considered in stress-strength model is the reliability parameter R=P($T_2$ > $T_1$). The greater the value of R is, the more reliable is the unit to perform its specified task. In this article, we consider the situations in which $T_1$ and $T_2$ are both independent and dependent, and have certain bivariate distributions as their joint distributions. To study the effect of dependency on R, we investigate several bivariate distributions of $T_1$ and $T_2$ and compare the values of R for these distributions. Numerical comparisons are presented depending on the parameter values as well.
Splitting tensile strength (STS) of high-performance concrete (HPC) is one of the important mechanical properties for structural design. This property is related to compressive strength (CS), water/binder (W/B) ratio and concrete age. This paper presents a clustering-based fuzzy model for the prediction of STS based on the CS and (W/B) at a fixed age (28 days). The data driven fuzzy model consists of three main steps: fuzzy clustering, inference system, and prediction. The system can be analyzed directly by the model from measured data. The performance evaluations showed that the fuzzy model is more accurate than the other prediction models concerned.
A theoretical model was developed to predict the shear strength of slender reinforced concrete beams. The shear force applied to a cross-section of the beam was assumed to be resisted primarily by the compressive zone of intact concrete rather than by the tensile zone. The shear capacity of the cross section was defined based on the material failure criteria of concrete: failure controlled by compression and failure controlled by tension. In the evaluation of the shear capacity, interaction with the normal stresses developed by the flexural moment in the cross section was considered. In the proposed strength model, the shear strength of the beam and the location of the critical section were determined at the intersection between the shear capacity and shear demand curves. The proposed strength model was verified by the comparisons to prior experimental results.
