The effects of polymer-cement ratio and shrinkage-reducing agent content on the strength properties of ultrarapid-hardening polymer-modified mortars using redispersible polymer powder are examined. As a result, the flexural and tensile strengths of the ultrarapid-hardening polymer-modified mortars using redispersible polymer powder tend to increase with increasing polymer-cement ratio, and tend to decrease with increasing shrinkage-reducing agent content. However, the compressive strength of the ultrarapid-hardening polymer-modified mortars using redispersible polymer powder decrease with increasing polymer-cement ratio and shrinkage-reducing agent content.
In this paper, admixture factors affecting the properties of lightweight foamed concrete incorporating cement kiln dust(CKD) and fly ash(FA), respectively are discussed. Increase in CKD contents resulted in loss of fluidity and decrease in settlement of concrete noticeably. Moreover, the higher the unit weight is, the smaller the settlement depth is. The use of CKD resulted in slight decrease in compressive strength and tensile strength compared to that with other admixture. However, all mixtures met the requirement of strength prescribed in Korean Industrial Standards.
The effect of the temperature, the fatigue and the test speed on DEN(double edged notch) specimen which was made by the pp-rubber composites during fracture was stuied. DEN specimen was made on PP-rubber composites through the injection molding. With increasing temperature the fracture strength is linearly decrease and the fracture energy is first increase by $0^{\circ}C$ and after that decrease. In the same temperature the fracture strength during increasing the notch radius is hardly increase. The fracture behaviour at low and high test speed is different entirely. At high test speed plastic region is small and fracture behaviour was seen to brittle fracture tendency. The deformation mechanism of polypropylene-rubber composites during fracture was studied by SEM fractography. A strong plastic deformation of the matrix material ahead of the notch/crack occured. The deformation seem to be enhanced by a thermal blunting of the notch/crack.
This paper presents a study of the tensile behavior of carbon and glass fiber reinforced epoxy hybrid laminates manufactured by vacuum assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM). The objective of this study was to develop and characterize carbon fiber reinforced plastic hybrid composite material that is low cost and light-weight and that possesses adequate strength and stiffness. The effect of position and content of the glass fabric layer on the tensile properties of the hybrid laminates was examined. The strength and stiffness of the hybrid laminates showed a steady decrease with an increase of the glass fabric content this decrease was almost linear. Fracture strain of these laminates showed a slight increasing trend when glass fabric content was increased up to 3 layers, but at a glass fabric content > 3 layers the strain was almost constant. When glass fabric layers were at both outer surfaces, the hybrid laminate exhibited a slightly higher tensile strength and elastic modulus due to the small amount of glass yarn pull-out.
In this paper, the properties of inter-lacking block by the kind of aggregate and fineness modulus are investigated. According to the experimental results, compressive strength and flexural strength increase and absorption ratio decrease with larger fineness modulus in the range of 2.15~4.20. Flexural strength with river sand is higher than that with crushed sand by about 19%, compressive strength with river sand, that with crushed sand by about 11% and absorption ratio with river sand is smaller than that with crushed sand by abort 2%.
This study was made to obtain the optium compaction of quicklime mixed with soil and to find out the relation of the quicklime mix ratio, dry density and strength by changing the compaction rounds. The obtained results are as follows. 1. The maximun dry density of unmixed soil in not distinguishable, while that of mixed soil is distinguishable. 2. What the increase of quicklime mix ratio, the dry density and strength increase and the optimum quicklime mix ratio could be obtained. 3. With the increase of compaction rounds, the dry density and strength increase, while they decrease in a certain limit and maximum dry density and strength could be obtained.
We can establish hypothesis that the grip strength of the CTDs gorup is weaker, SNAP is lower, and NCV is stower than the normal subjects. This paper is to drive out the characteristics of pinch strength and EMG for subjects G1 and G2 who are supposed to be in CTDs and the normal group. The results are as follows: (1) The pinch strength of the CTDs group is weaker than the normal group. It is remarkably decrease in the afternoon for G2 group. (2) There was no significant difference on SNAP among three groups. (3) There was significant difference on NCV among three groups.
The use of high-strength grout applied for facility foundations and bridges has recently been expanding in offshore wind farm. Wind farm in offshore require bearing capacity for horizontal loads such as wind, waves, and earthquakes. In order to improve the bearing force of the base part, sufficient fluidity and a certain strength should be ensured so that the high-strength grout is densely charged in the narrow space of the connection part. Therefore, in this study, changes in fluidity and strength according to the ratio of PC-based superplasticizer mixed in high-strength grout were measured. As a result, as the ratio of the superplasticizer increased, fluidity increased and strength decreased. However, the strength did not decrease when the ratio of superplasticizer was above a 0.005. Therefore, it was confirmed that the fluidity change was remarkable when a 0.005 ratio of PC-based superplasticizer were added.
This study was conducted to investigate experimentally the drying shrinkage and the strength properties of redispersible SBR and PAE powder-modified mortars. Polymer-cement ratio, content of shrinkage-reducing agent and antifoamer content were manipulated as the experimental variables. The peculiarity of this study is to obtain a high early-age strength by using the portland cement and alumina cement with the ratio of 8 : 2. Until 7 days of age, the drying shrinkage remarkably increased up to $1\~2\times10^{-4}$, while it tended to decrease as the ratio of polymer to cement ratio and the content of shrinkage-reducing agent increased. Polymer-cement ratio was effective in improving the flexural, tensile and adhesive strengths: As the ratio increased, the strengths correspondingly increased. The flexural strength was in the range of $7\~11$ MPa, the tensile strength was $3.5\~5$ MPa and the adhesive strength was $1.2\~3.9$ MPa. On the other hand, the compressive strength tended to decrease as the polymer-cement ratio increased, and it was in the range of $23\~39$ MPa. All strengths, flexural, tensile, adhesive and compressive strengths, decreased as the content of powder shrinkage-reducing agent increased. It turned out that the polymer-cement ratio influenced more on the behavior of drying shrinkage and the properties of strength than the powder shrinkage-reducing agent did.
The influences of chloride-free components of the cement additive: triethanolamine, triisopropanolamine, sodium hyposulfite and calcium gluconate on the 1d, 3d and 28d compressive strength of cement were investigated by response surface methodology. It found the early strength activators, triethanolamine and sodium hyposulfite could enhance the 1d strength of cement effectively but they did not contribute to the 3d strength enhancement, and further their interaction was able to decrease the 28d strength of cement. Calcium gluconate was not that effective for the strength enhancement on 3 and 28 days when it's simply dosed. However the interaction effect of calcium gluconate with triisopropanolamine could strongly favor the strength enhancement of cement after 3 days. Results indicated it was necessary to focus attention on the potential interactions among the chemical components. And for the concern of four chemicals studied in this paper, it was feasible to formulated a kind of chloride-free cement additive that can be effective for the early strength of cement and its the strength after 3 days.
