  • Purpose : PET/CT performed CT-based attenuation correction generates the beam hardening artifact by metallic implant. The attenuation correction causes over or underestimate of the area adjacent to metallic hip prosthetic material and change of $^{18}F$-FDG uptake. Also, the image quality and the diagnosability on genitourinary disease are reduced. Therefore, this study will evaluate the usefulness of MAR (Metal Artifact Reduction) algorithm method to improve the image quality on PET/CT. Materials and Methods : PET/CT was performed by fixing hip prosthesis in SPECT/PET phantom. In PET images with and Without MAR algorithm, the Bright streak, Dark streak, Metal region and Background area that appeared on CT were confirmed, and the change of each SUV (standardized uptake value) was analyzed. Also, in 15 patients who underwent total hip arthroplasty, each MAR algorithm and Without MAR algorithm and non attenuation correction was evaluated. Results : In PET image Without MAR algorithm, SUV of Bright streak region was $0.98{\pm}0.48$ g/ml; Dark streak region was $0.88{\pm}0.02$ g/ml; Metal region was $0.24{\pm}0.16$ g/ml, Background area was $0.91{\pm}0.18$ g/ml. In SUV of PET image with MAR algorithm, Bright streak region was $0.88{\pm}0.49$ g/ml, Dark streak region was $0.63{\pm}0.21$ g/ml, Metal region was $0.06{\pm}0.07$ g/ml, Background was $0.90{\pm}0.02$ g/ml. SUV generally decreased when applying MAR algorithm. In PET image Without MAR algorithm, SUVs of Bright region were higher than those measured in the Background, and it was false positive uptake. But, in PET image with MAR algorithm, SUVs of Bright region were similar to the Background, and false positive uptake disappeared. Conclusion : MAR algorithm could reduce an increase of $^{18}F$-FDG uptake due to attenuation correction in the hip surrounding tissue. However, decrease of SUV in Dark streak region should be considered in the future. Therefore, this study propose that the diagnostic accuracy can be improved in genitourinary diseases adjacent to metallic hip prosthesis, if provided PET images with and Without MAR algorithm, and non attenuation correction images at the same time.

  • Single image rain removal is a typical inverse problem which decomposes the image into a background scene and a rain streak. Recent works have witnessed a substantial progress on the task due to the development of convolutional neural network (CNN). However, existing CNN-based approaches train the network with synthetically generated training examples. These data tend to make the network bias to the synthetic scenes. In this paper, we present an unsupervised framework for removing rain streaks from real-world rainy images. We focus on the natural phenomena that static rainy scenes capture a common background but different rain streak. From this observation, we train siamese network with the real rain image pairs, which outputs identical backgrounds from the pairs. To train our network, a real rainy dataset is constructed via web-crawling. We show that our unsupervised framework outperforms the recent CNN-based approaches, which are trained by supervised manner. Experimental results demonstrate that the effectiveness of our framework on both synthetic and real-world datasets, showing improved performance over previous approaches.

  • As described in the previous paper (Park et al. 2013), the detector subsystem of optical wide-field patrol (OWL) provides many observational data points of a single artificial satellite or space debris in the form of small streaks, using a chopper system and a time tagger. The position and the corresponding time data are matched assuming that the length of a streak on the CCD frame is proportional to the time duration of the exposure during which the chopper blades do not obscure the CCD window. In the previous study, however, the length was measured using the diagonal of the rectangle of the image area containing the streak; the results were quite ambiguous and inaccurate, allowing possible matching error of positions and time data. Furthermore, because only one (position, time) data point is created from one streak, the efficiency of the observation decreases. To define the length of a streak correctly, it is important to locate the endpoints of a streak. In this paper, a method using a differential convolution mask pattern is tested. This method can be used to obtain the positions where the pixel values are changed sharply. These endpoints can be regarded as directly detected positional data, and the number of data points is doubled by this result.

  • In an optical observing system, three pairs of observations at equal time intervals are required for the orbit determination method to obtain orbital information of an unknown space objects. In this paper, we propose a method of estimating a streak for acquiring three pairs of observations using one streak image information. Satellite trajectory simulation data were generated for nine cases using the STK program in order to verify the characteristics of the orbit of space object and estimation performance. Simulation was performed by applying three approaches that can estimate the next streak position after a few seconds from one streak image information, and the estimation performance was evaluated. Linear vector method and Kalman Filter method based on the linear assumption tend to increase the estimation error in the region where the nonlinearity is large. However estimation method using the polynomial curve fitting based on the least square method showed smaller and uniform error result than the previous methods.

  • In this paper, three-dimensional multiblade row unsteady Navier-Stokes simulations at a hot streak temperature ratio of 2.0 have been performed to reveal the effects of rotor tip clearance on the inlet hot streak migration characteristics in low pressure stage of a Vaneless Counter-Rotating Turbine. The hot streak is circular in shape with a diameter equal to 25% of the high pressure turbine stator span. The hot streak center is located at 50% of the span and the leading edge of the high pressure turbine stator. The tip clearance size studied in this paper is 2.0mm(2.59% high pressure turbine rotor height, and 2.09% low pressure turbine rotor height). The numerical results show that the hot streak is not mixed out by the time it reaches the exit of high pressure turbine rotor. The separation of colder and hotter fluid is observed at the inlet of low pressure turbine rotor. Most of hotter fluid migrates towards the rotor pressure surface, and only little hotter fluid migrates to the rotor suction surface when it convects into the low pressure turbine rotor. And the hotter fluid migrated to the tip region of the high pressure turbine rotor impinges on the leading edge of the low pressure turbine rotor after it goes through the high pressure turbine rotor. The migration of the hotter fluid directly results in very high heat load at the leading edge of the low pressure turbine rotor. The migration characteristics of the hot streak in the low pressure turbine rotor are dominated by the combined effects of secondary flow and leakage flow at the tip clearance. The leakage flow trends to drive the hotter fluid towards the blade tip on the pressure surface and to the hub on the suction surface, even partial hotter fluid near the pressure surface is also driven to the rotor suction surface through the tip clearance. Compared with the case without rotor tip clearance, the heat load of the low pressure turbine rotor is intensified due to the effects of the leakage flow. And the numerical results also indicate that the leakage flow effect trends to increase the low pressure turbine rotor outlet temperature at the tip region.

  • In order to realize a speech coding at low bit rates, a pitch information is useful parameter. In case of extracting an average pitch information form continuous speech, the several pitch errors appear in a frame which consonant and vowel are coexistent; in the boundary between adjoining frames and beginning or ending of a sentence. In this paper, I propose an Individual Pitch (IP) extraction method using residual signals of the FIR-STREAK digital filter in order to restrict the pitch extraction errors. This method is based on not averaging pitch intervals in order to accomodate the changes in each pitch interval. As a result, in case of Ip extraction method suing FIR-STREAK digital filter, I can't find the pitch errors in a frame which consonant and vowel are consistent; in the boundary between adjoining frames and beginning or ending of a sentence. This method has the capability of being applied to many fields, such as speech coding, speech analysis, speech synthesis and speech recognition.

  • We report on the photoluminescence (PL) properties of poly[2,7-(9-9-dioctylfluorene)] (PF) thin film under strong optical pumping using a streak camera system. When the excitation energy density increases above $72{\mu}J{\cdot}cm^{-2}$, the emission spectrum becomes narrower and PL decay curve comes to be faster simultaneously. These behaviors are clear evidence of Amplified Spontaneous Emission (ASE) due to a waveguided Stimulated Emission in slab structure of thin film. ASE threshold of $72{\mu}J{\cdot}cm^{-2}$ is comparable with previous reports and PF is attractive as a gain medium for plastic lasers.

  • By setting a refractor with a certain angle against the optical axis of the CCD camera lens, the image of a measuring point recorded on the image plane is displaced by the corresponding amounts related to the distance between the camera and the measuring point. When the refractor that keeps the angle against the optical axis is rotated physically at high speed during the exposure of the camera, the image of a measuring point draws an annular streak. Since the size of the annular streak is inversely proportional to the distance between the camera and the measuring point, the 3D position of the measuring point can be obtained by processing the streak. In this paper, for one of the applications of our system, the measurement of a moving surface is introduced. In order to measure the moving surface, multi laser spots are projected on the surface of object. Each position of ...

  • Ventilation of buildings provide occupants with comfort and plays a very informant role in supplying indoor ventilation requirement. Also, natural ventilation is more comfortable than forced ventilation taking account of mental comfort. Especially factors, airflow velocity and direction etc., should be reflected in establishment of comfortable indoor environment because indoor airflow can directly affect comfort of occupants. However, a device which enables indoor air movement to be analyzed has not existed until now. Hence, it has mostly depended on simulation results of fluid analysis but the results often differ far from reality. PST(Particle-Streak-Tracking) System, an alternative to improve this problem, is currently applied to natural ventilation in building, air conditioning, and airflow analysis in the inside of a plane etc. This study closely examine the property and strength and weakness of PST that is first introduced into KICT and then evaluate applicable possibility.

  • We developed a loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) method to rapidly diagnose Wheat streak mosaic virus (WSMV) during quarantine inspections of imported wheat, corn, oats, and millet. The LAMP method was developed as a plant quarantine inspection method for the first time, and its simplicity, quickness, specificity and sensitivity were verified compared to current reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and nested PCR quarantine methods. We were able to quickly screen for WSMV at quarantine sites with many test samples; thus, this method is expected to contribute to plant quarantine inspections.
