Domestic construction industry that accounts for nearly 17.5 percent of GDP is one of the major industries that has been leading domestic economy development. However, accumulated negative image such as corruption, fraudulent work and 3D industries shadowing the remarkable achievement is rampant. In order to improve the image for construction industry, this research investigated various cases and activities related to the image enhancement. Cases analyzed include activities of National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) such as 'Build Your Future', 'Construct My Future', 'Positive Image 2004', and so on. Based on the analysis results, a strategic framework to improve the image of Korean construction industry was proposed. It is envisioned that improved image of the industry will positively affect the growth of the construction industry by attracting more qualified human resources.

Purpose - The purpose of this study is to analyze Korea's trade relations centered on the MERCOSUR, a major economic integration in Latin America, and identify its problems and suggest measures that can be taken by the government and corporations to reinforce economic cooperation. Design/methodology/approach - To improve the level of contribution of the study, an empirical analysis is necessary. However, due to limited data access, the study will approach the topic of trade relations between Korea and the MERCOSUR with various statistics and literature. Findings - First, there is an urgent need for changes in import-export goods between Korea and the MERCOSUR, as trade is focused on specific items. Second, although foreign direct investment from Korea to the MERCOSUR is centered in manufacturing and mining industries, there should be different investment strategies by countries and industries. Third, it is necessary to reinforce commercial cooperation. Korea currently has Free Trade Agreements with Chile, Peru, and Columbia, but not with MERCOSUR. Therefore, Korea must take active measures to sign an TA with MERCOSUR, which has been put on hold. Research implications or Originality - Latin America has the most thriving market when it comes to Free Trade Agreements worldwide. MERCOSUR is a South American Trade Bloc established by the Treaty of Asunción in 1991 and Protocol of Ouro Preto in 1994. Its full members are Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. However, there is still a lack of research on the MERCOSUR, and corporations that aim to enter the Latin American market face difficulties due to lack of information. By investigating MERCOSUR and its prospects and analyzing the trade relations with Korea, this study will provide strategic measures for corporations that wish to enter the Latin American market.

The plastic furniture made of new materials has enriched and broadened our everyday life not only through development of manufacture but also through consumptions since 1960′s. In relation as well to the need of reducing energy consumption and contributing to environment, the weight of plastic materials has raised concerns in recently. It should be pointed out that development of design technology, which would be risky to develop these synthetic materials was the strategic foundation of Kartell of which principal know-how with plastic techniques. Our rapidly changing lifestyle demands a new design that meet recognition of inflection. In conclusion as we are preparing to enter into the 21st Century, we should go forward with hope and do so with dispatch-dazzling all of us with boldness, thinking imaginatively, transform indifference into action, moving things to the next level in furniture industries, asking the "historic background of designing in plastic seat furniture" questions, challenging the very examples of the past in Kartell, Italy. From this study we have found that it would be useful to understand that the development of technological plastic materials for seat furniture has enabled designers to create ore and more sophisticated design in our millennium life.

This is a report on the history and current status of production planning and control activities in South Korea with regard to Industrial Engineers' (IEs') role. One of the main characteristics of Korean global companies is that they make good use of IEs not only in their production but also in higher strategic fields like supply chain management. In these companies it is well demonstrated that instead of adding small part of IE skills to traditional engineers, it is much more competitive to have IEs work with them as a team since IEs are fully proficient in every kind of productivity and quality improvement tools. It is also observed that IEs become more productive when they have good domain knowledge in their own industries like semi-conductor, automobile, telecommunications, steel, shipbuilding, etc. So teaching the basics for manufacturing processes to IE students seems very important for their future career development.

Electric power industries in several countries are currently undergoing major changes, mainly represented by the privatizations of the power plants and distribution systems. Reliable operations of the power plants directly contribute to the revenue increases of the generation companies in such competitive environments. Strategic optimizations should be performed between the levels of the reliabilities to be maintained and the various preventive maintenance costs, which require the accurate estimations of the power plant reliabilities. However, accurate estimations of the power plant reliabilities are often limited by the lack of accurate power plant failure data. A power plant is not supposed to be failed that often. And if it fails, its impact upon the power system stability is quite substantial in most cases, setting aside the significant revenue losses and lowered company images. Reliability assessment is also important for Independent System Operators(ISO) or Market Operators to properly assess the level of needed compensations for the installed capacity based on the availability of the generation plants. In this paper, we present a power plant reliability estimation technique that can be applied when the failure data is insufficient. Median rank and Weibull distribution are used to accommodate such insufficiency. The Median rank is utilized to derive the cumulative failure probability for each ordered failure. The Weibull distribution is used because of its flexibility of accommodating several different distribution types based on the shape parameter values. The proposed method is applied to small size failure data and its application potential is demonstrated.

Nanotechnology is playing an increasingly important role in the development on most areas of science and technology. Because of its potential of providing novel performance at the nanoscale, the nanotechnology can influence a wide range of applications such as information, energy, environment and biology, all essential for socioeconomic development in the near future. In the packaging industry, the main applications of nanotechnology are (1) to enhance durability, (2) improve gas and oxygen barriers of raw materials for films and packaging, (3) create new functional sensors, and (4) lengthen shelf life for the packaged food quality and will also help in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. Nanotechnology is growing in an international interactions which accelerate in science, education, and industrial R&D. Government, industries and the business sector in Korea have shown a strong ambition towards the development of nanotechnology for the future. Meanwhile, a strategic investment in packaging area is much smaller compared to supporting research and development (R&D) of various major research areas. This article were reviewed the status and trends of current packaging research and development activities using nanotechnology in Korea, USA, Japan, and other international nations.

Most of the small and medium industries rather focus on immediate problems and how to properly maintain organizational matters and existing system than the strategic and operational use of Information Technology when they deal with applications and operation of Information System. This study found out that there were few studies on IT outsourcing for small and medium companies in Korea compared to large enterprises' IT outsourcing. Most preceding studies researched the problems of partnership and technical, managerial, and economical success factors for big companies. Small and medium companies have the problems of financial difficulty, organizational scale (40.3%), shortage of manpower for system operation (24.1%), and lack of practical use of managers (8.9%). SMB firms have required support of government for their Informationalization but, we found out amount of companies (41%) not be informed or don't account on government's supporting IT of SMB programs. In addition, Range and Contents of outsourcing, Reputation of Outsourcing vendor, Reliability of maintaining were selected as CSFs of SMB IT outsourcing. While large corporation staff more considered CEO's willing and inner facts of their companies.

The company of 4 core materials that are needed for photovoltaic generation is located in area around this university in Gunsan, Saemangeum. And also, it was almost completed the value chain about the production of Polysilicon, Ingot, Wafer, modules and the design, construction of generation system. The industry-academy-government has understood that because of the relative companies' production and investment, it leads to a supply and demand of manpower and thus will have field centered manpower education. This program will help the problem of lack of manpower in relative companies by establishing competitive major agreement like vocational education system. Also, the university and the participating company in joint have pushed ahead field business education to make the least of industrial-education's mismatch, the training of professional manpower connected with related industries to make the universities chemical characteristics, companies securing excellent manpower and contributed to the revitalization of the regional economy. In this paper, are aware that photovoltaic industry is a future strategic industry for the country, so we will train the immediately site adapting manpower for the area of photovoltaic material and system as our goal. This is shown results of education operation for 4 years.

Recently, the interest in technology valuation is revived and increasing mainly due to the lack of suitability of the traditional valuation methods in explaining the market reaction to newly-emerging knowledge-oriented companies. Moreover, many firms are now gearing their efforts to the strategic use of technology asset such as technology licensing, transfer and commercialization. Firms are also trying to enhance their technological competitiveness by re-evaluating their technology level and thus identifying the strengths/weaknesses of their technology portfolio. To accomplish this objective, the development of an integrated evaluation system for technology assets is essential. This paper presents a technology valuation system developed for a steel manufacturing company in South Korea. The valuation framework is based on; (1) the multi-attribute evaluation of technological competitiveness using Analytic Hierarchical Process and; (2) the expected future benefit of the technology using four different methods of discounted cash flow estimation. The suggested framework will be easily applicable to various industries where technological competitiveness should be evaluated systematically.

Daejeon metropolitan city is now financing an undertaking for building the film production town in daeduk valley as one of strategic industries, at this point of time it was under consideration making Daedeok Valley Directory to understanding the present position as the source technology and future practical application for the making film contents. This study deals with information design for the Daeduk Valley directory for the practical use. In detail, with emphasis on the design planning and formation of Daeduk Valley directory, researching methods of present position about the source technology and formation of information architecture of the directory book.
