한국어 파찰음과 영어 파찰음의 조음적 차이에 관한 연구 (An EPG Study of the Articulatory Difference between Korean and English Affricates)

  • Using EPG, the stop and fricative portions of the Korean and English afficates were examined to find out whether the stop and fricative portions of Korean affricates are the same as those of English ones in articulation, as generally assumed in the literature. The English affricate in the word 'choose' is classified as alveopalatal just like the Korean affricate in the word 'cam'. The results of the EPG data showed that Korean affricates were not articulated the same as those in English, especially in the stop portion. In English, the stop portion of 'choose' was quite similar to /t/ as 'tooth', but in Korean, the stop portion of 'cam' was somewhat different from /t/ in 'tam'. More specifically, the stop portion of /t/ in 'tam' was articulated with the contact at the upper teeth and the alveolar ridge, but the stop portion of /t/ in 'cam' was articulated with the contact in the alveopalatal region. This shifting in the place of articulation of the stop portions of the Korean affricate (from dental and alveolar to alveopalatal) can be explained. Unlike English affricates, the stop portions of Korean affricates and the fricative portions of Korean affricates are co-articulated at the same place of articulation.

한국어 연파찰음의 조음위치에 관한 연구 (On the Place of Articulation of the Korean Lenis Affricate)

  • An EPG study was conducted to examine the place of articulation of Korean lenis affricate /c/. Results indicated that the place of articulation of the stop portion /t/ of /c/ was shifted to the place of articulation of the fricative portion /s/ of /c/. Also, we found that the shifting in the place of articulation occurred because of the gap of the place of articulation between /t/ and /s/ (two portions of /c/). From this study, we proposed that the /e/ is articulated at the same place of articulation of /s/ both for its stop portion and its fricative portion. Also, we observed that the place of articulation of /t/ is articulated farther front than that of /s/ and /c/.

  • 기계장치에 있어서 브레이크 시스템은 기계의 동작에 못지않게 중요한 부분이다. 만약 기계가 멈추지 않으면 큰 사고의 발전할 수 있기 때문이다. 이것은 선박에서 또한 마찬가지이다. 선박에서 항해중 배를 정지시키기 위해서는 윈드라스 윈치를, 배를 항구에 계류시키기 위해서 무어링 윈치를 사용한다. 본 연구에서는 배를 항구에 계류시키는 무어링 윈치의 제동력을 향상시키기 위해 브레이크 밴드를 분리하였고, 이 분리한 무어링 윈치에서 가장 적절한 분리지점을 찾는 연구를 하였다.

The Vowel Length as a Function of the Articulatory Force of the Following Consonants in Korean

  • This study was designed to determine (1) the effects of the following stop consonant on the vowel length in isolated bi-syllabic words, (2) the mechanism which renders vowels longer in duration before lax stops than tense stops, (3) where the aspiratory interval is included, in the vowel portion or the preceding consonantal portion and (4) the influence of the preceding consonants upon the duration of the following vowel. Measurements were made of five timing variables on acoustic signals as three native Korean speakers uttered isolated bi-syllabic /VCV/ words in which the vowel was identical, /$\alpha$/, and the C slot was filled with bilabial stops. Findings: (1) the vowel length before the lax stops was significantly longer than before the tense stops, while the difference in the vowel duration between the tense stops was insignificant or negligible, (2) the vowel length varied as a function of the articulatory force of the following consonants, regardless of the phonological unit of syllable, (3) The aspiratory interval is interpreted as a portion of the preceding consonant and (4) The effects of the preceding consonants on the final vowel length were not rule-governed.

Numerical Investigation of Tunable Band-pass\band-stop Plasmonic Filters with Hollow-core Circular Ring Resonator

  • In this paper, we numerically study both band-pass and band-stop plasmonic filters based on Metal-Insulator-Metal (MIM) waveguides and circular ring resonators. The band-pass filter consists of two MIM waveguides coupled to each other by a circular ring resonator. The band-stop filter is made up of an MIM waveguide coupled laterally to a circular ring resonator. The propagating modes of Surface Plasmon Polaritons (SPPs) are studied in these structures. By substituting a portion of the ring core with air, while the outer dimensions of the ring resonator are kept constant, we illustrate the possibility of red-shift in resonant wavelengths in order to tune the resonance modes of the proposed filters. This feature is useful for integrated circuits in which we have limitations on the outer dimensions of the filter structure and it is not possible to enlarge the dimension of the ring resonator to reach to longer resonant wavelengths. The results are obtained by a 2D finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. The introduced structures have potential applications in plasmonic integrated circuits and can be simply fabricated.

Beam-Stop Array를 이용한 DR에서의 Scatter Fraction 측정 및 효용성 평가 (Measurement and Evaluation of Scatter Fractions for Digital Radiography with a Beam-Stop Array)

  • X-선 영상 촬영 시 피사체에 조사되는 X-선은 피사체 내부에서 필연적으로 산란을 일으킨다. 산란선은 영상시스템에 도달하여 영상의 대조도를 저하시키고 전체 농도(Background)를 불균일하게 만든다. 현재 학계의 연구 동향은 산란선에 의한 영상의 화질 저하를 방지하기 위한 방법 고안에 초점을 두고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 영상에서의 scatter fraction을 정확하게 측정하여 영상시스템의 개선에 기여하고 대조도에 영향을 미치는 인자의 정량적 평가를 최적화하기 위함에 있다. Scatter fraction을 정확하게 측정하기 위하여 beam stop array를 제작하였다. 제작한 beam stop array를 이용하여 영상을 획득하고, 영상의 각 부위에서의 scatter fracton 측정을 자동화하기 위해 MATLAB을 이용한 프로그램(SFC: Scatter Fraction Calculator)을 개발하였다. 그리드 유 무와 air gap 효과에 따른 scatter fracton의 비교를 통하여 beam stop array와 SFC 프로그램의 효용성을 평가하였다. 그리드가 있을 경우의 scatter fraction이 그리드가 없는 경우에서 보다 낮은 값으로 측정되었으며 air gap이 증가함에 따라 scatter fracton이 감소함으로써 효용성을 입증했다. Beam stop array와 SFC 프로그램은 입증된 효용성을 기반으로 임상에서 흉부뿐 아니라 인체의 여러 부위에 이를 활용할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

포스트가 치근내 응력분산에 미치는 영향에 관한 삼차원 유한요소법적 연구 (STRESS DISTRIBUTION OF ENDODONTICALLY TREATED TOOTH ACCORDING TO THE POST -THREE-DIMENSIONAL FINITE ELEMENT STUDY-)

  • The endodontically treated tooth is generally restored with post and core, owing to the brittleness and the loss of large amount of tooth structure. Although there have been lots of studies about the endodontically treated teeth, the three-dimensional quantitative studies about the stress distribution of them are in rare cases. In this study, it was assumed that the coronal portion of the upper incisor had extensively damaged. After the root canal therapy it was post cored, and restored with PFG crown. The three-dimensional model, in which the root was supported with a normal alveolar bone, was constructed. Force was applied to the centric stop point with the angle of 135 degrees to the long axis of the tooth. Force was assumed to be 250N as functional maximum bite force of upper central incisors. The results analyzed with three-dimensional finite element method were as follows : 1. Stress was concentrated on the middle portion of the labial side dentin and the apical portion of the dentin. 2. Stress in the post was more concentrated on the post apex. 3. The displacement of the post at the post-cement interface was almost symmetrical la-bio-lingually. 4. It assumed that restoring extensively damaged tooth with a post-core and PFG crown is an adequate method of restoration.

실도로 주행 데이터를 이용한 공회전 정지 시간의 분석 (An Analysis of Idling Stop Time Using Real On-road Driving Data)

  • 본 연구에서는 실도로 주행에 의해 취득된 차량의 운행 데이터의 분석을 통하여 차량의 공회전과 관련된 여러 가지 운행 특성을 도출하였다. 차종별 정차 시간 내역을 분석한 결과, 시내버스의 경우 공회전 시간은 전체 운행 시간의 30.9%에 해당되었고, 이중에서 공회전 정지가 가능한 시간은 전체 운행시간의 21.6%로 추산되었다. 하루중 공회전 정지가 가능한 시간 비율은 낮 시간대에 가장 높았고, 공회전 정지를 실시하여도 운행 시간이 증가하는 경향은 나타나지 않았다. 시내버스의 신호대기 정차 시에는 공회전 정지를 실시하기에 충분한 시간 동안 정차를 하는 경우가 많았으나, 정류장 정차 시에는 공회전 정지를 실시하기에는 충분하지 않은 시간동안 정차하는 비율이 높았다. 시내버스의 전체 운행 시간중 감속시간이 차지하는 비중은 전체의 24.7%에 달했으며, 이 가운데에서 4초 이상 감속이 지속되는 구간의 비율이 약 30%에 달하는 것으로 분석되었다. 따라서 이러한 감속시 제동 에너지를 회생하여 저장하는 하이브리드 방식을 시내버스에 적용하는 것도 가능할 것으로 예상된다.

대구지역 디젤하이브리드 버스의 실도로 주행 성능 분석 (On-Road Driving Performance Analysis of Diesel-Hybrid Bus in Daegu Metropolitan Area)

  • In this study we analyzed the on-road driving performance of two parallel-type diesel-hybrid buses which have been driven in Daegu metropolitan area. A real-time on-board data logger was facilitated to measure the vehicle information such as vehicle speed, idle stop, state of charge of battery, and engine operating conditions. These diesel-hybrid buses ran as a commuter at Daegu Exco area and Dalsung industrial complex. The driving pattern in Exco area comprised more frequent idle stop and relatively lower speed than at Dalsung area, where comprised no idle stop. Due to those different driving patterns, the fuel economy at Dalsung showed $3.7\;km/{\ell}$, which is about 8% higher than that of Exco. The main causes of this come from the higher portion of regenerative braking and higher speed which moves to the operating points of diesel engine with a lower fuel consumption.

전기 Glottography(EGG)를 이용한 후두구음역학적 특성 (The Role of the Electroglottography on the Laryngeal Articulation of Speech)

  • There are two types of phonetic study, acoustic and physiologic, for differentiating the three manner categories of Korean stop consonants. On the physiologic studies, there are endoscopic, electromyographic(EMG), electroglottographic(EGG) and aerodynamic studies. In this study, I tried to investigate general features of Korean stops using EGG study for the open quotient of vocal fold and baseline shift during speech, and aerodynamic characteristics for e subglottal air pressure, air flow and glottal resistance at consonants. On the aerodynamic study, the glottalized and aspirated stops may be characterized by e increasing subglottal pressure comparing with lenis stop at consonants. The airflow is largest in the aspirated stops followed by lenis stops and glottalized. The glottal airway resistance (GAR) showed highest in the glottalized followed by the lenis, but lowest in e aspirated during e production of consonants, and showed highest in e aspirated, but low in the glottalized and lenis during the production of vowel. The glottal resistance at consonant showed significant difference among consonants and significant interaction between subject and types of consonant. The glottal resistance at vowel showed significant difference among consonants, and e interaction occured between subject and types of consonant. The electroglottography(EGG) has been used for investigating e functioning of e vocal folds during its vibration. The EGG should be related to the patterns of the vocal fold vibration during phonation in characterizing the temporal patterns of each vibratory cycle. The purpose of this study is to investigate the dynamic change of EGG waveforms during continuous speech. The dynamic changes of EGG waveforms fir the three-way distinction of Korean stops were characterized that the aspirated stop appears to be characterized by largest open quotient and smallest glottal contact area of the vocal folds in e initial portion of vocal fold vibration ; the lenis stop by moderate open quotient and glottal contact area ; but the glottalized stop by smallest open quotient and largest glottal contact area. There may be close relationship between the OQ(open quotient) in the initial voice onset and the glottal width at the time of consonant production, the larger glottal width just before vocal fold vibration results in the smaller OQ of the vocal fold vibration in the initial voice onset. The EGG changes of baseline shift during continuous speech production were characterized by the different patterns for the three types of Korean consonants. The small and less stiffness change of baseline shift was found for the lenis and the glottalized, and the largest and stiffest change was found for the aspirated. On the baseline shift for the initial voice onset, they showed so similar patterns with for the consonant production, larger changed in the aspirated. for the lenis and the glottalized during the initial voice onset, three subjects showed individual difference each other. I suggest at s characteristics were strongly related with articulatory activity of vocal tract for the production of consonant, especially for the aspirated stop. The suspecting factors to affect EGG waveforms are glottal width, vertical laryngeal movement and the intrapharyngeal pressure to neighboring tissue during connected spech. So the EGG may be an useful method to describe laryngeal activity to classify pulsing conditions of the larynx during speech production, and EGG research can be controls for monitoring the vocal tract articulation, although above factors to affect EGG would have played such a potentially role on vocal fold vibratory behavior obtained using consonant production.
