  • In this paper, a high accuracy stereo reconstruction method for surgery instruments positioning is proposed. Usually, the problem of surgical instruments reconstruction is considered as a basic task in computer vision to estimate the 3-D position of each marker on a surgery instrument from three pairs of image points. However, the existing methods considered the 3-D reconstruction of the points separately thus ignore the structure information. Meanwhile, the errors from light variation, imaging noise and quantization still affect the reconstruction accuracy. This paper proposes a method which takes the structure information of surgical instruments as constraints, and reconstructs the whole markers on one surgical instrument together. Firstly, we calibrate the instruments before navigation to get the structure parameters. The structure parameters consist of markers' number, distances between each markers and a linearity sign of each instrument. Then, the structure constraints are added to stereo reconstruction. Finally, weighted filter is used to reduce the jitter. Experiments conducted on surgery navigation system showed that our method not only improve accuracy effectively but also reduce the jitter of surgical instrument greatly.

  • Tracking is one of the most important pre-required task for many application such as human-computer interaction through gesture and face recognition, motion analysis, visual servoing, augment reality, industrial assembly and robot obstacle avoidance. Recently, 3D information of object is required in realtime for many aforementioned applications. 3D tracking is difficult problem to solve because during the image formation process of the camera, explicit 3D information about objects in the scene is lost. Recently, many vision system use stereo camera especially for 3D tracking. The 3D feature based tracking(3DFBT) which is on of the 3D tracking system using stereo vision have many advantage compare to other tracking methods. If we assumed the correspondence problem which is one of the subproblem of 3DFBT is solved, the accuracy of tracking depends on the accuracy of camera calibration. However, The existing calibration method based on accurate camera model so that modelling error and weakness to lens distortion are embedded. Therefore, this thesis proposes 3D feature based tracking method using SVM which is used to solve reconstruction problem.

  • Stereo vision has become an important technical issue in the field of 3D imaging, machine vision, robotics, image analysis, and so on. The depth map extraction from stereo video is a key technology of stereoscopic 3D video requiring stereo correspondence algorithms. This is the matching process of the similarity measure for each disparity value, followed by an aggregation and optimization step. Since it requires a lot of computational power, there are significant speed-performance advantages when exploiting parallel processing available on processors. In this situation, multi-core CPU may allow many parallel programming technologies to be realized in users computing devices. This paper proposes parallel implementations for calculating disparity map using a shared memory programming and exploiting the streaming SIMD extension technology. By doing so, we can take advantage both of the hardware and software features of multi-core processor. For the performance evaluation, we implemented a parallel SAD algorithm with OpenMP and SSE2. Their processing speeds are compared with non parallel version on stereoscopic streaming video. The experimental results show that both technologies have a significant effect on the performance and achieve great improvements on processing speed.

  • In this paper, a method for reduction of error ratio by external light noise is proposed, which separates error moving component caused by external light noise from moving component of an object, using depth information of stereo image. If measured depth information change of extracted moving component is insignificant, the moving component is considered as external light noise, which concludes that there is no moving object. Experimental results assert the usefulness of the proposed method which makes error ratios by external light noise and by false image as shadow diminish.

  • As the number of autonomous vehicles is increased, drivers are trending toward constant interests in detecting distance between vehicles in close-range and maintaining the distance between forward and backward vehicles for drivers' safety. In this paper, we propose a method of detecting the distance between two vehicles by computing the disparity of the close-rang vehicle using stereo vision. The boundary of the vehicle is obtained by using the modified wavelet transform which has multi-resolution characteristics. Then the disparity between left and right images is computed using coarse-to-fine method and histogram matching. Here we transform the left-right stereo images through 3-steps using the modified wavelet for maintaining the original resolution. An experimental result showed that the proposed method had 4.65% in total error rate.

  • This paper studies how to combine devices such as monocular/stereo cameras, motors for panning/tilting, fisheye lens and convex mirrors, in order to solve vision-based robotic problems. To overcome the well-known trade-offs between optical properties, we present two mixed versions of the new systems. The first system is the robot photographer with a conventional pan/tilt perspective camera and fisheye lens. The second system is the omnidirectional detector for a complete 360-degree field-of-view surveillance system. We build an original device that combines a stereo-catadioptric camera and a pan/tilt stereo-perspective camera, and also apply it in the real environment. Compared to the previous systems, we show benefits of two proposed systems in aspects of maintaining both high-speed and high resolution with collaborative moving cameras and having enormous search space with hybrid configuration. The experimental results are provided to show the effectiveness of the mixing collaborative and hybrid systems.

  • In this paper. we Present an estimation method of a face pose by using two camera images. First, it finds corresponding facial feature points of eyebrow, eye and lip from two images After that, it computes three dimensional location of the facial feature points by using the triangulation method of stereo vision techniques. Next. it makes a triangle by using the extracted facial feature points and computes the surface normal vector of the triangle. The surface normal of the triangle represents the direction of the face. We applied the computed face pose to display a 3D face model. The experimental results show that the proposed method extracts correct face pose.

  • This paper proposes one method on photometric stereo calibration using the constraint on light source directions in which the light sources have the unknown tilt and slant angles but the slant angles are the same. First, the constraint is analyzed based on the equation of linear ambiguity which leads to the conclusion that another constraint should be added to solve the calibration completely. Later, the combination of constraint on light source directions and the constraint that there exists at least six surface patches having known albedos is exploited to resolve the linear ambiguity up to an accurate and close-form solution. The effective performance of the proposed method is demonstrated through experiment results.

  • In this paper, we proposed that stereo camera system using fuzzy control for moving object tracking. We extract some features of the moving object from overall image. This informations send to the PC and the PC calculate the coordinate of the object in the image frame. To make the object set in the middle of the image, the step motor should be controlled accurately and rapidly with the location information received by the PC. Then we design a fuzzy logic system for controlling stereo camera system. To verify the better performance of the proposed algorithm, we exemplified by experimental results.

  • Tracking of an object in 3D space performed in real-time is a significant task in different domains from autonomous robots to smart vehicles. In traditional methods, specific data acquisition equipments such as radars, lasers etc, are used. Contemporary computer technology development accelerates image processing, and it results in three-dimensional stereo vision to be used for localizing and object tracking in space. This paper describes a system for tracking three dimensional motion of an object using color information in real time. We create stereo images using pair of a simple web camera, raw data of an object positions are collected under realistic noisy conditions. The system has been tested using OpenCV and Matlab and the results of the experiments are presented here.
