In this study, the weld residual stress distribution at a dissimilar-metal welded plate of low alloy carbon steel and stainless steel, which are widely used in nuclear power plants, was characterized. A plate mock-up with butt welding was fabricated using SA 508 low alloy steel and Type 304 stainless steel plates and the residual stresses were measured by the X-ray diffraction method after electrolytic polishing of the plate specimen. Finite element analysis was carried out in order to simulate the butt welding of dissimilar metal plate, and the calculated weld residual stress distribution was compared with that obtained from the measured data. The characteristics of the three-dimensional residual stress distribution in a butt weld of dissimilar metal plates were investigated by comparing the measured and calculated residual stress data.

The objective of this study is to investigate the structural behavior of Concrete-Filled Tubular Column H-Beam End-Plate Connections with Penetrated HT-Bolts under monotonic load. Simple bending tests are carried out with 5 kinds of specimens including beam specimen. The parameters of these tests are the thickness (T=22, 26. 30mm) of End-plates and the diameter (M=20, 22mm) of bolts. From the tests, the increasing values of yielding strength and initial stiffness of each specimen were gained as the thickness of End-plates and diameter of bolts are increasing. And the application of Bjorhovde et al and Eurocode 3 classification method by non-dimensional moment-rotation curves to the connections showed that all of them are included in rigid region as far as initial stiffness is concerned and all of them are also rigid as far as ultimate strength.
Recent keywords of the heavy industries are large-scale structure and productivity. Especially, the sizes of the commercial vessels and the offshore structures have been gradually increased to deliver goods and explore or produce oil and natural gas in the Arctic. High heat input welding processes such as electro gas welding (EGW) have been widely used for welding thick steel plates with flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), especially in the shipbuilding industries. Because high heat input welding may cause the detrimental effects on the fracture toughness of the welded joint and the heat affected zone, it is essential to obtain the sufficient toughness of welded joint. There are well known that the fracture toughness like CTOD, CVN, and KIC were very important factors in order to secure the safety of the structures. Furthermore, the welding residual stress should be considered to estimate the unstable fracture in both EGW and FCAW. However, there are no references on the welding residual stress distribution of EGW and FCAW with thick steel plates. Therefore the welding residual stresses were very important elements to evaluate the safety of the welded structure. Based on the measurement results, the characteristics of residual stress distribution through thickness were compared between one-pass electron gas welding and multi-pass flux-cored arc welding. The longitudinal residual stress in the multi-pass flux-cored arc welding is tensile through all thicknesses in the welding fusion zone. Meanwhile, longitudinal residual stress of EGW is tensile on both surfaces and compressive at the inside of the plate. The magnitude of residual stresses by electron gas welding is lower than that by flux-cored arc welding.

This paper aims at comparing and analyzing shear buckling characteristics between sinusoidal corrugation shape and trapezoidal one. For this, I adopted the equal-length trapezoidal corrugation and sinusoidal one for the analytical models, and analyzed their shear buckling characteristics through linear buckling analysis and on its theory. Generally, the shear buckling shapes of corrugated steel plates are classified into local buckling, global buckling, and interactive buckling from the two buckling modes. Sinusoidal corrugation shape, unlike trapezoidal corrugation, does not have flat sides, which causes another tendency in shear buckling mode. Especially, the changes and different aspects of shear buckling on the boundary between local buckling and global buckling appear in different corrugation shapes. According to the analysis results, interactive buckling mode appeared on the boundary of local buckling and global bucking in trapezoidal corrugation. However, in the case of corrugated steel plates with sinusoidal configuration, interactive buckling mode appeared in the part where global bucking takes place. Besides, trapezoidal shapes are of advantages on shear buckling resistance in the local buckling section, and so are sinusoidal shapes in the global buckling section.
In this study, the correlation between microstructure and Charpy impact properties of FCAW(Flux cored arc welding) HAZ(Heat affected zone) of thick steel plates for offshore platforms was investigated. The 1/4 thickness(1/4t) location HAZ specimen had a higher volume fraction of bainite and finer grain size of acicular ferrite than those of the 1/2 thickness (1/2t) location HAZ specimen because of the post heat effect during the continuous FCAW process. The Charpy impact energy at $-20^{\circ}C$ of the 1/4t location HAZ specimen was lower than that of the 1/2t location HAZ specimen because of the high volume fraction of coarse bainite. The Charpy impact energy at -40 and $-60^{\circ}C$ of the 1/2t location HAZ specimen were higher than those of the 1/2t location HAZ specimen because the ductile fracture occurred in the fine acicular ferrite and martensite regions. In the ductile fracture mode, the deformed regions were observed in fine acicular ferrite and martensite regions. In the brittle fracture mode, long crack propagation path was observed in bainite regions.

The use of steel plates has been greatly increased in bridge construction, particularly for long-span bridges. For connections of those steel plates in the field, application of high-tension bold, such as M30, is highly demanded. However, the current steel construction specifications in Korea do not provide information for large-sized bolt connections. In order to evaluate the applicability of the large-sized high-tension bolt, this study experimentally investigates relaxation and slip behavior of M30 bolts with varying bolt size and plate thickness. In addition, internal compressive stress was computed using FEM analysis. The analyzed results were compared with the stress distribution measured from strain gages attached on bolts and bolt holes. From the study presented herein, the M30 high-tension bolts are anticipated to be successfully used with the relaxation less than 10% and the slip coefficient satisfying the specified limit.
In this work, we performed a comparative study examining two coatings on Ti Gr.1 for use in fuel cell bipolar plates. The coatings consisted of carbon black as the conductor along with acrylic polymer and Ti Sol-Gel binder as the binder. Ti Sol-Gel that had precipitated as TiO2 in areas impregnated between carbon black gaps, thereby acting as a binder for carbon black and serving as a polymer coating. Neither of the coatings peeled off during the 90° bend test to check formability. The contact resistance of the TiO2 coating was found to be lower than that of the polymer binder coating. Moreover, due to coating shrinkage (denser) that occurred during the heat treatment process, the TiO2 binder coating showed almost the same level of corrosion resistance, as measured by potentiostatic and EIS tests, despite being thinner than the polymer coating. However, both the polymer binder coating and the TiO2 binder coating had many pores and irregularities internally (around 10 ~ 100 nm) and on the surface (0.1 ~ 2 ㎛). We considered that these pores and irregularities contributed to the lower corrosion resistance.
