차량용 Wheel Nut 소재의 보론강적용을 위한 단조공정에 관한 연구 (Study of a Forging Process for the Application of Boron Steel for Automotive Wheel Nut Material)

  • Boron steel (51B20) was cold forged using by new designed dies to apply for automotive aluminum wheel nut. The formability and mechanical properties of boron steel were compared with carbon steel(S45C) which has been used up to date for the wheel nut material. The formability was investigated on the dies designed with various types of punch nose using by FEM. The metal flow and compressive stress on the dies during cold forging were investigated and compared each other. The forging process with a new designed die showed the improved metal flow with a reduced forging load which resulted in the significant increase of the die life. It was recommended that the carbon steel for automotive wheel nut material could be substituted by the boron steel.

  • Steam Generator has been manufactured by welding process after partial manufacturing of various steel forgings such as shell, head and tube sheet. Usually, these steel forgings are made by open die forging process. After steel melting and ingot making, open die forging has been carried out to get a good quality which means high soundness and homogeniety of the steel forgings by using high capacity hydraulic press. This paper introduced open die forging development status of the large steel forgings which is used for the steam generator of 1,400MW next generation nuclear power plant.

  • Steam Generator is one of the most important structural part of nuclear power plant. It is manufactured by various steel forgings such as shell, head, torus and tubesheet. These steel forgings have been made by open die forging process. After steel melting and ingot making, open die forging has been carried out to get a good quality which means high soundness and homogeniety of the steel forgings by using high capacity hydraulic press. This paper introduced the open die forging process and manufacturing experience of large tubesheet forgings which will be used for the steam generator of 1,400MW nuclear power plant.

  • Since the required strength of forged part is achieved by work hardening with the accumulation of plastic strain during the cold working, severe load can be exerted on die system. So, dies are liable to the early fracture for the non-heat treated steel forging in comparison with the conventional mild steels. Therefore, it is necessary to lower the flow stress of steels as much as possible during forging steps. Bauschinger effect can be utilized to lower flow stress during forging steps by giving the tensile prestrain on the forging billet during wire drawing step. In the present study, the prestrain effect on Bauschinger phenomenon is studied to avoid difficulties with application of non-heat treated cold forging steels in practice.

열간공구강 DH32 소재의 열간단조품 개발에 관한 연구 (A Study on Development of Hot Forged Component of Hot Tool Steel DH32)

  • Hot tool steel, in general, has not been used as a material in hot forging. However such a hot tool steel is recently applied to forging materials by recent forging technology. DH32 is known as a kind of hot tool steels, which is developed for characteristics of excellent strength and toughness in high temperature. Feasibility of DH32 to hot forging material has been researched to develop the hot forging technology of a plunger used for a large-sized marine fuel pump. Hot compression experimental works were performed to investigate the hot strain characteristic of DH32 and with the experimental results FE simulations were also conducted for the design of forging processes and preform. It is found out through the hot compression experimental works that DH32 has a hot brittleness at more than $1150^{\circ}C$.

열간 단조에 의한 고탄소강의 미세조직 변화가 기계적 성질에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Microstructure Change on the Mechanical Properties in Hot-Forged Ultra High Carbon Steel)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of the hot forging ratio on the microstructure and mechanical properties of ultra high carbon steel. The microstructure of ultra high carbon steel with 1.5%wt.C consisted of a proeutectoid cementite network and acicular microstructure in pearlite matrix. With increasing hot forging ratio, the volume and thickness of the network and acicular proeutectoid cementite decreased. Lamella spacing and the thickness of eutectoid cementite decreased with increasing hot forging raito, and were broken up into particle shapes, which then became spheroidized. When the forging ratio was over 65%, the network and acicula shape of the as-cast state disappeared. With increasing hot forging ratio, hardness, tensile strength, elongation and impact value were not changed up to 50%, and then rapidly increased with the increase of the forging ratio.

  • A forging product in general is made through buster blocker and finisher processes. The dies used in these processes are designed by experienced forging engineers. In the present study an expert system is developed for the finisher die design of axisymmetric hot steel forging. It is a rule based system written in Fortran and AutoLISp operating on a personal computer. In this paper major rules consid-ered in the system are summarized and the capabilities of the system are examined through several examples.

  • A hot forging product in general is produced through buster, blocker and finisher processes. Usually the processes including dies are designed by experienced forging engineers. However, due to the lack of such engineers, it is necessary to develop expert systems with which engineers of little experience can perform the design task. In the present study, an expert system is developed for axisyrnmetric hot steel forgings. It is a rule based system written in Fortran and AutoLISP, operating on a personal computer. In this paper, structures of the system are summarized and capabilities of the system are examined through several examples.
