This paper is concerned with the applicability of the chi-square approximation to the six disparity statistics: the Pearson chi-square, the generalized likelihood ratio, the power divergence, the blended weight chi-square, the blended weight Hellinger distance, and the negative exponential disparity statistic. Three dimensional contingency tables of small and moderate sample sizes are generated to be fitted to all possible hierarchical log-linear models: the completely independent model, the conditionally independent model, the partial association models, and the model with one variable independent of the other two. For models with direct solutions of expected cell counts, point estimates and confidence intervals of the 90 and 95 percentage points of six statistics are explored. For model without direct solutions, the empirical significant levels and the empirical powers of six statistics to test the significance of the three factor interaction are computed and compared.

전통적인 강의실의 기초통계학 수업에서 많은 학생들이 수업에 집중하지 못하고 있다. 수업 시간에 졸거나, 잡담하거나, 휴대폰을 만지작거리면서 다른 생각에 잠겨 있다. 인터넷이 가능한 컴퓨터실에서의 강의와 실습은 인터넷이 제공하는 콘텐츠와 부단히 경쟁을 해야 한다. 이러한 문제를 조금이나마 해결해 보려고 시도한 방안이 교수와 학생을 하나의 유무선 네트워크로 묶는 교육용 디지털 신경시스템 하에서 기초통계학을 가르치고 학생들이 공부하게 하자는 것이다.

This paper investigates a convergence rate of a test statistics given by two scale sampling method based on $A\ddot{i}t$-Sahalia and Jacod (Annals of Statistics, 37, 184-222, 2009). This statistics tests for longitudinal data having the existence of long memory dependence driven by fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H{\in}(1/2,\;1)$. We obtain an upper bound in the Kolmogorov distance for normal approximation of this test statistic. As a main tool for our works, the recent results in Nourdin and Peccati (Probability Theory and Related Fields, 145, 75-118, 2009; Annals of Probability, 37, 2231-2261, 2009) will be used. These results are obtained by employing techniques based on the combination between Malliavin calculus and Stein's method for normal approximation.

This paper proposes two distance measures between two cumulative hazard functions that can be obtained by comparing their difference and ratio, respectively. Then we estimate the measures and present goodness of t test statistics. Since the proposed test statistics are expressed in terms of the cumulative hazard functions, we can easily give more weights on earlier (or later) departures in cumulative hazards if we like to place an emphasis on earlier (or later) departures. We also show that these test statistics present comparable performances with other well-known test statistics based on the empirical distribution function for an exponential null distribution. The proposed test statistic is an omnibus test which is applicable to other lots of distributions than an exponential distribution.

In order for handicapped people to maintain better humane life, it is necessary to get statistics of them in developing appropriate national policy. However, it is very difficult to obtain baseline statistics on regular or occasional basis. It's reason is mainly attributed to attitudes of their family's tendency to conceal any existence of such memeber in the household. As a result, the statis-tics on the handicapped population is very inaccurate and under satisfaction. We must produce such statistics periodically in time and with accuracy. Thus, this study porposes five methods which, we believe, can produce reliable statistics of thehandcapped population : 1) vitalization through enforcement of handicapped information into the registration system, 2) inclusion in population census of items related to handicapped information, 3) improvement of the physically handicapped population survey scheme, 4) utilization of hospital patients' records for development of the statistics, and 5) an estimation through the labor force survey.

In our fast-moving information and knowledge society, skills and know-how rapidly become outdated. Virtual learning environments play a key role in meeting today's growing demand for customized educational and vocational training and lift-long teaming. The scope of multimedia-based and web-supported education is illustrated by means of an interdisciplinary multimedia project 'New Statistics' funded by the German government. The project output contains more than 70 learning modules covering the complete curriculum of an introductory statistics course. All modules are based on a statistical laboratory and on a multitude of Java applets, animations and case studies. The paper focuses on presenting the statistical laboratory and the applets. These components present the main project pillars and are particularly suitable for international use, independently from the original project framework. This article also demonstrates the application of Java applets and other multimedia developments from the educational world to official statistics for interactive presentation of statistical information.

For a random sample of size n from general linear model, $Y_i= heta(X_i)+varepsilon_i,;let Y_{in}$ denote the ith oder statistics of the Y sample values. The X-value associated with $Y_{in}$ is denoted by $X_{[in]}$ and is called the concomitant of ith order statistics. The estimator of the location of a maximum of a regression function, $ heta$($\chi$), was proposed by (equation omitted) and was found the convergence rate of it under certain weak assumptions on $ heta$. We will discuss the asymptotic distributions of both $ heta(X_{〔n-r+1〕}$) and (equation omitted) when r is fixed as nolongrightarrow$\infty$(i.e. extreme case) on the basis of the theorem of the concomitants of order statistics. And the will investigate the asymptotic behavior of Max｛$\theta$( $X_{〔n-r+1:n〕/}$ ), . , $\theta$( $X_{〔n:n〕}$)｝as an estimator for the peak of a regression function.

The history of statistics from the mid-seventeenth to the early twentieth century is considered and a scheme of periodization is proposed. In the first period(1650-1750), named 'the age of probability' in this paper, concept of probability emerged, and in the second period(1750-1820), named 'the age of error theory', statistical techniques such as the least square method are developed by astronomers and geodesists. Their techniques are supported theoretically by mathematicians like Laplace and Gauss in that period. The third period(1820-1880) is called 'the age of statistics(as a plural noun)' since statistical data played prominent roles in social sciences such as sociology, psychology. Finally the last period(1880- ), called 'the age of statistics(as a singular noun)', the discipline of statistics came to maturity both in theory and application.

In this paper, we focus on churn analysis for the first successful candidates in the entrance examination on 2006 year using Clementine, data mining tool. The goal of this study is to apply decision tree including C5.0 and CART algorithms, neural network and logistic regression techniques to predict a successful candidate churn. And we analyze the churning and nochurning successful candidates and why the successful candidates churn and which successful candidates are most likely to churn in the future using data from entrance examination data of K university on 2006 year.

We introduce the statistical system of the Commonwelth Independence State(CIS) countries located in the Central Asia. At present, the level of the national statistics production system of Korean National Statistical Office(NSO) is very high and locate on just behind Japan among all asian countries, and they are also trying to reach the statistics quality level upto the advanced developed countries in the world. To have the optimal Statistics production processing, we must understand the methodologies parts as well as the aspect of the macro statistics that can be applied to the country#s economic plan. Like the history is repeated, it is valuable to look at the development history of statistical system of other countries one century ago. We study the relationship among CIS countries along with the history of Russian statistics development. It will be helpful to look and understand the statistical system of CIS countries including Russia to use their statistics for international comparison study.
