How do you carry out data analysis\ulcorner There are few texts and little theory. One approach could be to use a pattern language, an idea which has been successful in field as diverse as town planning and software engineering. Patterns for data analysis are defined and discussed, illustrated with examples.

For fixed positive integers and $\textit{k}\;(n\;{\geq}\;{\textit{k}}\;+\;2)$, the exact probability distributions of non-overlapping and overlapping patterns of two failures separated by (i) exactly $textsc{k}$ successes, (ii) at least $\textit{k}$ successes and (iii) at most $\textit{k}$ successes have been obtained for Bernoulli independent and Markov dependent trials by using combinatorial technique. The waiting time distributions for the first occurrence and the $r^{th}$ (r > 1) occurrence of the patterns have also been obtained.

This paper presents an automatic text categorization model that improves the accuracy by combining statistical and knowledge-based categorization methods. In our model we apply knowledge-based method first, and then apply statistical method on the text which are not categorized by knowledge-based method. By using this combined method, we can improve the accuracy of categorization while categorize all the texts without failure. For statistical categorization, the vector model with Inverted Category Frequency (ICF) weighting is used. For knowledge-based categorization, Phrasal Patterns and Keyword Sets are introduced to represent sentence patterns, and then pattern matching is performed. Experimental results on new articles show that the accuracy of categorization can be improved by combining the tow different categorization methods.

This paper presents a novel approach for extracting simultaneously human daily activity patterns and discovering the temporal relations of these activity patterns. It is necessary to resolve the services conflict and to satisfy a user who wants to use multiple services. To extract the simultaneous activity patterns, context has been collected from physical sensors and electronic devices. In addition, a context model is organized by the proposed incremental statistical method to determine conflicts and to infer user intentions through analyzing the daily human activity patterns. The context model is represented by the sets of the simultaneous activity patterns and the temporal relations between the sets. To evaluate the method, experiments are carried out on a test-bed called the Ubiquitous Smart Space. Furthermore, the user-intention simulator based on the simultaneous activity patterns and the temporal relations from the results of the inferred intention is demonstrated.

Sequential pattern discovery is one of main interests in web usage mining. the technique of sequential pattern discovery attempts to find inter-session patterns such that the presence of a set of items is followed by another item in a time-ordered set of server sessions. In this paper, a tree-based sequential pattern finding method is proposed in order to discover navigation patterns in server sessions. At each learning process, the suggested method learns about the navigation patterns per server session and summarized into the modified Rymon's tree.

Various methods of frequent pattern mining have been applied to genetic problems, specifically, to the combined association of two genotypes (a genotype pattern, or diplotype) at different DNA variants with disease. These methods have the ability to come up with a selection of genotype patterns that are more common in affected than unaffected individuals, and the assessment of statistical significance for these selected patterns poses some unique problems, which are briefly outlined here.

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between infant's attachment and maternal parenting attitudes of 12 months infants and to verify the child's problem behaviors according to the patterns of attachment. There was no statistical significant difference between the maternal parenting attitudes and the patterns of infant's attachment. But the latter infants had been fed the more they showed secured attachment. Infants fostered under mothers having a good relationship with brother's family husband, and having a satisfaction of environmental factors had more secured attachment. There was the statistical significant difference between the patterns of attachment and child's problem behaviors. In securely attached children showed more immature insecure antisocial behaviors and habit disorders. As the results the maternal parenting attitude influenced infants's patterns of attachment to their mothers. And childern's problem behaviors were influenced by the patterns of attachment.

The high rate of urban crime is a main issue that needs to be dealt with in this high-tech society. With the rapid increase of urban crime, research has mainly focused on topics either on a global or a local scale, such as cities or communities and houses or buildings, without reliable observational data. This study makes the best use of the nationwide surveys carried out by Korean government agencies for the analysis of urban crime patterns and factors in major Korean cities. The aims of this research are threefold: understanding the relationship between urban crime patterns and socio-economic differences in cities, determining the effect of residence types on the urban crime patterns; and uncovering potential influential factors of a crime victim's individual characteristics. The statistical methods used for the analysis of social statistical data are as follows: simple regression, logistic regression, one-way ANOVA and post-hoc test. This research found that the patterns of urban crime rate in cities have a certain tendency toward the cities' socio-economic and geographical differences. The residence type is an influential factor showing a close relation to the crime rate. Personal issues, such as the types of occupation, education, marriage, etc., are directly relevant to victims of crime.

복합명사는 한국어에서 가장 빈번하게 나타나는 색인어의 한 형태로서,영어권 중심의 정보검색 모델로는 다루기가 어려운 언어 현상의 하나이다.복합명사는 2개 이상의 단일어들의 조합으로 이루어져 있고,그 형태 또한 여러가지로 나타나기 때문에 색인과 검색의 큰 문제로 여겨져 왔다.본 논문에서는 복합명사의 어휘적 정보를 단위명사들의 통계적행태(statistical behavior)에 기반 하여 자동 획득하고,이러한 어휘적 정보를 검색에 적용하는 모델을 제시하고자 한다.본 방법은 색인시의 복합명사 인식의 어려움과 검색시의 형태의 다양성을 극복하는 모델로서 한국어를 포함한 동양권의 언어적 특징을 고려한 모델이다.

An experiment has been carried out to identify flow patterns in a horizontal condensing flow with R-113. Characteristics of flow patterns were determined based upon a statistical analysis of differential pressure fluctuations at an orifice. The probability density function and power spectral density function of instantaneous pressure drop curves for various flow conditions were obtained. In comparison to the results of air-water flows, the flow patterns in a condensing flow such as annular, wavy, slug and plug could be identified. The experimental data determined by this technique were compared with the flow pattern maps suggested by other investigators. The result indicates that the statistical characteristics of differential pressure fluctuations at an orifice may be a useful tool for identifying flow patterns both in condensing flows and in adiabatic two-phase flows.
