  • The concept of f-statistical convergence which is, in fact, a generalization of statistical convergence, has been introduced recently by Aizpuru et al. (Quaest. Math. 37: 525-530, 2014). The main object of this paper is to prove an f-statistical analog of the classical Korovkin type approximation theorem of Boyanov and Veselinov. It is shown that the f-statistical analog is intermediate between the classical theorem and its statistical analog. As an application, we estimate the rate of f-statistical convergence of the sequence of positive linear operators defined from $C^*[0,{\infty})$ into itself.

  • This study aims to investigate the statistical literacy of pre-service mathematics teachers and to discuss the impact of statistical literacy in lesson plan. For the purpose of this study, we analyzed 13 pre-service mathematics teachers' statistical literacy tests and lesson plans. The results of this analysis are as follows: First, pre-service mathematics teachers did not have a high level of statistical literacy, and it was also observed that there was a big level difference between them. Second, pre-service mathematics teachers' lesson plans showed significant difference in the level of the target grade, the characteristics of the target student, and the contents. Based on this study, we seek to find implications for how it is appropriate to educate teachers in charge of statistical education.

  • Statistical analysis of data is an integral part of research projects in all scientific disciplines including the plant pathology. Appropriate design, application and interpretation of statistical analysis are also, therefore, at the center of publishing and properly evaluating studies in plant pathology. A survey of research works published in the Plant Pathology Journal, however, cast doubt on high standard of statistical analysis required for scientific rigor and reproducibility in the journal. Here I first describe, based on the survey of published works, what mistakes are commonly made and what components are often lacking during statistical analysis and interpretation of its results. Next, I provide possible remedies and suggestions to help guide researchers in preparing manuscript and reviewers in evaluating manuscripts submitted to the Plant Pathology Journal. This is not aiming at delineating technical and practical details of particular statistical methods or approaches.

  • In this study, we provide a comparison of multivariate Q-techniques in the up-to-date versions of SAS, SPSS, Minitab and S-plus well known to those who study statistics. We can analyze data through the direct Input method(command) in SAS and use of menu method in SPSS, Minitab and S-plus. The analysis performance method is chosen by the high frequency of use. Widely we compare with each Q-techniques form according to input data, input option, statistical chart and statistical output.

  • Successful implementation of statistical process control techniques requires for operational definitions and precise measurements. Nevertheless, very often analysts can dispose of process data available only by linguistic terms, that would be a waste to neglect just because of their intrinsic vagueness. Thus a hybrid approach, which integrates fuzzy set theory and common statistical tools, sounds useful in order to improve effectiveness of statistical process control in such a case. In this work, a fuzzy approach is adopted to manage linguistic information, and the use of a Chi-squared control chart is proposed to monitor process performance.

  • Recently Korean statistician have more chance to work with other researcher in other countries at international level. Especially the 53rd Scientist meeting of he International Statistical Institute(ISI) will be held in Seoul, Rep. of Korea at Aug 22-29, 2001. The fields of Statistics in Korea have been affected a lot from American Statistical Society. In this research communication, I would like to introduce a short history of he Italian statistical society and their major research topic and outputs. The contents will help us to understand the Italian statistician, and it can be a conner-stone to the future relationship between Korean statistician and Italian statistician.

  • The 2x3 cross-over design is proposed for the bioequivalence of two test drug formulations with a reference drug formulation. Oh et al.(1999) and Park et al.(1998) derived 3x2 cross-over design and discussed its benefits, since the 3x3 cross-over design may not be of practical design. We discuss the statistical issues for2x3 cross-over design and show its statistical properties. Bioequivalence problem in 2x3 cross-over design is considered statistically and an illustrated example is given.

  • In this paper, a kind of modified $q$-Bernstein-Schurer operators is introduced. The Korovkin type statistical approximation property of these operators is investigated. Then the rates of statistical convergence of these operators are also studied by means of modulus of continuity and the help of functions of the Lipschitz class. Furthermore, a Voronovskaja type result for these operators is given.

  • Since the introduction of DNA microarray, a revolutionary high through-put biological technology, a lot of papers have been published to deal with the analyses of the gene expression data from the microarray. In this paper we review most papers relevant to the cDNA microarray data, classify them in statistical methods' point of view, and present some statistical methods deserving consideration and future study.
