  • In conventional line scan angiography, flow signal has been enhanced by the time_of_flight effect while the signal from stationary tissues has been suppressed by the saturation rf pulse followed by spoiling gradients. Due to the inhomogeneous rf field and the tissue dependent T1 relaxation time, however, stationary tissues can not be suppressed completely or uniformly, and the remnant stationary signal deteriorates the resultant angiogram. Here, the complete cancellation of stationary tissues is made possible by the spectral analysis of a series of repetitive line images of the same slice. The Fourier transformation of a set of line images results in the spectrum images, where stationary tissues are collected into the dc component while arteries are included in harmonic components because of the variation of the flow velocity and the resultant flow signal in arteries according to the cardiac cycle. The summation of harmonic components excluding the dc component results in the angiogram of arteries with the complete cancellation of stationary tissues.

  • The EUV wave is a disturbance that has been believed to be the fast-mode (shock) wave, which can propagate passing through magnetic field lines. After the passage of EUV waves, coronal streamers start to show kink-mode oscillations, and the footpoints, i.e., magnetic separatrices, of the oscillating streamers are observed as the so-called stationary front. We compare the stationary front observed by EUV imagers and coronal streamers observed in coronagraphic images. We analyze the successive events occurred in September 2011. We find that the stationary fronts are consistent with the coronal streamer boundaries, and they are located along the boundaries of coronal holes and active regions. Our results confirm that EUV waves are in fact fast-mode waves and demonstrate that the stationary front is a promising tool to probe into the source of slow solar wind that is the boundary of coronal streamers on the solar surface.

  • Stabilization mechanism of lifted flame in the near field of coflow jets has been investigated experimentally and numerically for methane fuel diluted with nitrogen. Lifted flames were observed only in the near field of coflow jets until blowout occurred in the normal gravity condition. To elucidate the stabilization mechanism for the stationary lifted flames in the near field of coflow jets for the diluted methane having the Schmidt number smaller than unity, the behaviors of the stationary lifted flame in microgravity and unsteady propagation phenomena were investigated numerically at various conditions of jet velocity. It has been founded that the buoyancy plays an important role for flame stabilization of lifted flame in normal gravity and the stabilization mechanism is due to the significant variation of the propagation speed of lifted flame edge compared to the local flow velocity at the edge.

  • Nonstationary features existing in tropical storms have been frequently captured in recent field measurements, and the applicability of the stationary theory to the analysis of wind characteristics needs to be discussed. In this study, a tropical storm called Nakri measured at Taizhou Bridge site based on structural health monitoring (SHM) system in 2014 is analyzed to give a comparison of the stationary and nonstationary characteristics. The stationarity of the wind records in the view of mean and variance is first evaluated with the run test method. Then the wind data are respectively analyzed with the traditional stationary model and the wavelet-based nonstationary model. The obtained wind characteristics such as the mean wind velocity, turbulence intensity, turbulence integral scale and power spectral density (PSD) are compared accordingly. Also, the stationary and nonstationary PSDs are fitted to present the turbulence energy distribution in frequency domain, among which a modulating function is included in the nonstationary PSD to revise the non-monotonicity. The modulated nonstationary PSD can be utilized to unconditionally simulate the turbulence presented by the nonstationary wind model. The results of this study recommend a transition from stationarity to nonstationarity in the analysis of wind characteristics, and further in the accurate prediction of wind-induced vibrations for engineering structures.

  • Accurate parameters based on equivalent circuit are required for high-performance field-oriented control in a three-phase induction motor. In a normal case, stator resistance can be accurately measured using a measuring equipment. Except for stator resistance, all machine parameters on the equivalent circuit should be estimated with particular algorithms. In the viewpoint of traditional regions, the parameters of an induction motor can be identified through the no-load and standstill test. This study proposes an identification method that uses the d-axis model of the induction motor in a stationary frame with the predefined information on stator resistance. Mutual inductance is estimated on the rotational dq coordination similar to that in the traditional no-load experiment test. The leakage inductance and rotor resistance can be estimated simply by applying different voltages and frequencies in the d-axis model of the induction motor. The proposed method is verified through simulation and experimental results.

  • In this article, a novel structural modal parameters identification methodology is developed to determine the natural frequencies and damping ratios of civil structures based on the symplectic geometry mode decomposition (SGMD) approach. The SGMD approach is a new decomposition algorithm that can decompose the complex response signals with better decomposition performance and robustness. The novel method firstly decomposes the measured structural vibration response signals into individual mode components using the SGMD approach. The natural excitation technique (NExT) method is then used to obtain the free vibration response of each individual mode component. Finally, modal natural frequencies and damping ratios are identified using the direct interpolating (DI) method and a curve fitting function. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated based on numerical simulation and field measurement. The structural modal parameters are identified utilizing the simulated non-stationary responses of a frame structure and the field measured non-stationary responses of a supertall building during a typhoon. The results demonstrate that the developed method can identify the natural frequencies and damping ratios of civil structures efficiently and accurately.

  • The aim of this paper is to establish Liouville type results for the stationary MHD equations. In particular, we show that the velocity and magnetic field, belonging to some Lorentz spaces, must be zero. Moreover, we also obtain Liouville type theorem for the case of axially symmetric MHD equations. Our results generalize previous works by Schulz [14] and Seregin-Wang [18].

  • We develop a model for broadband spectral energy distribution (SED) of Pulsar Wind Nebulae (PWNe). The model assumes that electrons/positrons in the pulsar wind are injected into and stochastically accelerated in the pulsar termination shock. We consider two scenarios: a stationary one-zone case and a time-evolving multi-zone case. In the latter scenario, flow properties in the PWNe (magnetic field, bulk speed) are modeled to vary in time and space. We apply the model to the broadband SED of the pulsar wind nebula 3C 58. From the modeling, we find that a broken power-law injection is required with the maximum electron energy of ~200 TeV.

  • The SAR measurement system with stationary probes, presented in this paper, can calculate area SAR value based ell the measured 9 electric field data. By converting obtained area SAR to the volume SAR, the results can be acquired in a few seconds. The system can be very useful tool in the stages of handset development for mobile communication as well as in the handset production line because of its rapid SAR measurement. The system showed good linearity characteristics at 835 MHz of 10 $\sim$ 27 dBm input power range.

  • Cointegration(together with VARMA(vector ARMA)) has been proven to be useful for analyzing multivariate non-stationary data in the field of financial time series. It provides a linear combination (which turns out to be stationary series) of non-stationary component series. This linear combination equation is referred to as long term equilibrium between the component series. We consider two sets of Korean bivariate financial time series and then illustrate cointegration analysis. Specifically estimated VAR(vector AR) and VECM(vector error correction model) are obtained and CV(cointegrating vector) is found for each data sets.
