  • Although the proposition of universities in national R&D has been soaring up recently in Korea, there is gap between the performances and the social expectations. To meet the gap, there are increasing trial to strengthen the role of Industry-Academic Cooperation(IAC) Foundations supporting university-industry collaboration activities. This study focuses on IAC Foundations and attempts to validate the relation between their roles and IAC performances with a regression analysis and futhermore to analyse the effect of the size of full-time-entities(FTEs). This study proposes positive relations between the IAC related performance and the FTEs in technology commercialization in IAC Foundations. Moreover, we identified that two groups-the below- and above-average groups-show different effects of the roles in IAC on the performance and that in the above-average group, the FTEs in technology commercialization are affecting the performance more than below in above-average group. This study suggests that it is important to allocate role more in technology commercialization than in other ones for enhancing the productivity of IAC performances and staffing by job-sector should be different depending on the size of the industry-academic cooperation foundation.

  • This study has been conducted at a time when Korean government continues to extend support for youth startups as part of its policy to create jobs and the focus moves from career and employment to youth startups with a growing interest in the field of youth startups. Against this background, this study aims to identify difficulty factors of youth startups in areas besides the Seoul Metropolitan Area, seek ways to overcome difficulty factors, and propose policy implications. To this end, this study set five criteria and 25 sub-criteria to evaluate the difficulties of youth startups by reviewing previous studies and conducting literature review, and performing brainstorming method. The empirical analysis of the evaluation criteria was performed, using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method, on youths aged 19 to 39 in Gunsan area. The analysis results showed that the largest difficulty factors facing local youths include business model establishment, business administration and management, and startup funding in the criteria. As for sub-criteria, the largest difficulty factors are market information acquisition, technology commercialization, project feasibility, technology development, and new market pioneering in descending order. Local youths have much difficulty about the process of turning a business item into a product and commercializing it. According to a comparative analysis by gender, men were a relatively high difficulty in commercializing business models than women. men were a relatively high difficulty in commercializing business models than women. On the other hand, women were higher than men in all factors (management management, entrepreneurship, improvement of entrepreneurship system, and improvement of entrepreneurship awareness) except for factors affecting business model. In addition, the factors of entrepreneurship were found to be relatively different among young people (college students, prospective entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs). In conclusion, it was suggested that in order to revitalize youth entrepreneurship in the region, it is necessary to actively resolve the difficulties of business model commercialization rather than entrepreneurship funds. In addition, it is necessary to strategically support customized entrepreneurship support and situational administrative services because gender and hierarchical difficulties are different than general solutions. This study presented practical priorities and derivation methods for the entrepreneurship difficulties faced by local youth, and suggested measures and improvements for vitalizing local youth entrepreneurship in the future.

  • All-optical fiber-type $2{\times}32$ splitters for an Ethernet PON (passive optical network) were fabricated by using a FBT (fiber biconical tapered) process and the performance of the splitters was tested in upstream transmission of the EPON system. The $2{\times}32$ splitters was obtained by cascading $1{\times}4$ splitters fabricated by a conventional FBT process and showed -18 dB of insertion loss with 1.5 dB uniformity of output power at each channel and -0.1 dB of polarization dependent loss. The insertion loss variation was below 0.1 dB at the temperature range of $-40^{\circ}C\;to\;80^{\circ}C$. For upstream channel transmission test in the EPON system were a Zig board and a burst mode receiver. Zenko-made optical module was used for the burst mode receiver by adding functions of serializer/deserializer and clock data recovery, a Virtex II pro20 chipset and Vitesse VSC7123 were used in the Zig board for characterizing the burst mode and in the clock data recovery chipset, respectively. Startup acquisition lock time and data acquisition lock time were measured to be 670ns and 400ns, respectively, in the upstream channel transmission of the EPON system adapting the $2{\times}32$ splitter fabricated in this work.

  • Video server which stores video streams should serve more users with the requested streams rapidly, satisfying their time constraints. However, the number of users supported and the response times for the requested services in video server are in the oppositional relationship with viewpoint of disk throughput. In this paper, we propose new policy that can provide not only rapid responses for the service requests but also increase the number of users supported in the storage system of video server. The policy admits the random movements of disk heads for urgent service requests but maintains the sequential or restricted movements of disk heads and eliminates rewind time of disk heads for less-urgent service requests in storage system of multiple disks environment so that it can not satisfy only the QoS of users but also support more users.

  • The P2P technology has been widely used to distribute files efficiently, and its use in streaming is rapidly increasing. P2P streaming has issues about startup-delay, scalability, and real-time playback, however, what affects these factors has not been researched sufficiently. This paper suggests a buffering model for progressive download within mesh-based P2P system, which corresponds to downloading and playing the content at the same time. It is used to analyze PDF(Playback Deadline First), Rarest algorithms which are block-selection strategies of P2P streaming and proposes a mixed selection of them. The mixed block selection strategy dynamically performs different strategies based on whether the blocks to be played are received or not. In consequence, it enhances the QoS of streaming in a single peer point of view, as well as improving block distributions in an overlay network.

  • Google released an initial version of Android that runs Dex(Dalvik Executable) through the Dalvik Runtime. Since Dalvik Runtime is based on interpreter, JIT(Just-in-time) compilation has been applied to improve performance. After Lollipop(Android 5.0) Dalvik Runtime has replaced with ART Runtime which support AOT (Ahead-of-time) compilation of Dex into Native Code. The late st Android has a problem that the application execution speed is slow until the AOT compilation is completed according to the actual usage record after the installation of the app. To improve the problem we have investigate the characteristics of profile that can improve the execution speed of the application and generate the profile automatically. Finally we propose a method that can optimize the application at install time. With the proposed method we can optimize selectively at install time and can help improving the execution speed of the app from the initial execution.

  • In this paper, we implement a hypervisor that runs multiple uC/OS-II real-time kernels on one microprocessor. The hypervisor virtualizes microprocessor and memory that are main resources managed by uC/OS-II kernel. Microprocessor is virtualized by controlling interrupts that uC/OS-II real-time kernel handles and memory is virtualized by partitioning physical memory. The hypervisor consists of three components: interrupt control routines that virtualize timer interrupt and software interrupt, a startup code that initializes the hypervisor and uC/OS-II kernels, and an API that provides communication between two kernels. The original uC/OS-II kernel needs to be modified slightly in source-code level to run on the hypervisor. We performed a real-time test and an independent computation test on Jupiter 32-bit EISC microprocessor and showed that the virtualized kernels run without problem. The result of our research can reduce the hardware cost, the system space and weight, and system power consumption when the hypervisor is applied in embedded applications that require many embedded microprocessors.
