  • Global-Local Laminate Variational Model is utilized to investigate the characteristics of interlaminar stresses in thick composite laminates under uniform axial extension. Various laminates with different fiber orientation and stacking sequences are analyzed to observe the behavior of interlaminar normal stresses. From this result, the interlaminar normal stress distribution along the laminate interfaces is examined and discussed with an existing approximation model. The repeated stacking of Poisson's ratio symmetric sublaminates is found to be the best stacking method of thick composite laminates to reduce the interlaminar normal stresses for the prevention of the free-edge delamination.

  • In this paper, we proposed the model of wireless communication for ACTS using DSRC and the DSRC system for T/C. The proposed wireless communication model is how to join with DSRC and other wireless communication in port. The DSRC system for T/C is the first application to the unit of port Facilities Automation on stacking area. The DSRC system is communicated between OBE and RSE using 5.8Hz ISM band frequency. The previous works of DSRC applications are gate automation. In these cases, the road trackers are difficult to obtain information of the port in the stacking area. So we used the DSRC for the wireless communication for the port Facilities Automation. Using DSRC, the load trackers obtain more information in the port and contacts to ITS on back-roads of port. The proposed communication system is serviced to reelection of port statistics.

  • The absorption and fluorescence spectroscopic studies on the interaction between thionine (TH) and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) have been carried out. The absorption and fluorescence spectral changes of TH with the changes of concentration of SDS are interpreted in terms of i) the aggregation of TH-SDS complex, ii) the stacking process of dye molecules by the association of the TH-SDS complex, iii) breakdown of the stacking due to the formation of dye-rich induced micelles, iv) redistribution of dye molecules in the surface of SDS micelles.

  • A fully integrated small form-factor HBT power amplifier (PA) was developed for UMTS Tx applications. For practical use, the PA was implemented with a well configured bottom dimension, and a CMOS control IC was added to enable/disable the HBT PA. By using helix-on-pad integrated passive device output matching, a chip-stacking technique in the assembly of the CMOS IC, and embedding of the bulky inductive lines in a multilayer substrate, the module size was greatly reduced to 2 mm ${\times}$ 2.2 mm. A stage-bypass technique was used to enhance the efficiency of the PA. The PA showed a low idle current of about 20 mA and a PAE of about15% at an output power of 16 dBm, while showing good linearity over the entire operating power range.

  • In this study, a program for the off-design performance prediction of multi-stage axial-compressors is developed based on stage-stacking method. To account for the increased losses at off-design conditions, generalized performance curve is applied. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of the choice of generalized performance curve and stator exit angle. For this purpose, we tested various generalized performance curves and stator exit angles. In conclusion, Muir's pressure coefficient curve gives a good prediction results regardless of the efficiency curve for a low-stage compressors. On the other hand, for high-stage compressors, The combination of Muir's pressure coefficient curve and Stone's efficiency curve gives a optimistic results. Stator exit angle has a small effect on overall performance curve.

  • New bispsoralen derivatives 5-10, 8-MOP-NHCO(CH2)nCONH-8-MOP (BPSBA-Cn, n = 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5) in which 5 position of an 8-methoxypsoralen (8-MOP) is linked by various lengths of bisamide polymethylene chain to 5 position of the other 8-MOP, have been synthesized by the amidation of 5-amino-8-methoxypsoralen (12) with α,ω-alkanoyl dichloride. Photophysical properties of their derivatives including π?π stacking interaction between the two aromatic moieties were investigated by UV absorption and fluorescence emission spectra. Efficient ring-ring stacking interactions have been observed in BPSBA-C4 (9) from the percent hypochromism (%H) of the models.

  • Surrogate modeling is applied to a compressor blade shape optimization to modify its stacking line and thickness to enhance adiabatic efficiency and total pressure ratio. Six design variables are defined by parametric curves and three objectives; efficiency, total pressure and a combined objective of efficiency and total pressure are considered to enhance the performance of compressor blade. Latin hypercube sampling of design of experiments is used to generate 55 designs within design space constituted by the lower and upper limits of variables. Optimum designs are found by formulating a PRESS (predicted error sum of squares) based averaging (PBA) surrogate model with the help of a gradient based optimization algorithm. The optimum designs using the current variables show that, to optimize the performance of turbomachinery blade, the adiabatic efficiency objective is improved substantially while total pressure ratio objective is increased a very small amount. The multi-objective optimization shows that the efficiency can be increased with the less compensation of total pressure reduction or both objectives can be increased simultaneously.

  • In estimating the azimuth of regional earthquakes with single -station three - component data, in some cases the result is dependent on the selection of waveforms, making the measurement subjective and inconvenient in automatic detection. In this paper an alternative approach is proposed in which the azimuth is measured from quite a long wave train by time - direction stacking technique. Test with digital waveform data from Korean seimic stations shows that the simple algorithm seems to be able to give a better estima- tion of azimuth of earthquakes at regional distances.

  • A study was performed to investigate the dynamic behaviors of fiber-reinforced composite materials subjected to transversely low-velocity impact. For this purpose, the simulation of modified beam finite element based on higher order beam theory for two(isotropic and anisotropic) materials is carried out according to the changes of material property, stacking sequence, geometric dimension and impact velocity of steel ball, etc. Main composite materials for simulation are composed of $[0^{\circ}/90^{\circ}/0^{\circ}/-90^{\circ}/0^{\circ}]_{2s}$, $[0^{\circ}/90^{\circ}/0^{\circ}/-90^{\circ}/0^{\circ}]_s$ and $[0^{\circ}/45^{\circ}/0^{\circ}/-45^{\circ}/0^{\circ}]_{2s}$, $[0^{\circ}/45^{\circ}/0^{\circ}/-45^{\circ}/0^{\circ}]_s$ stacking sequences. The effectiveness of this simulation for qualitative and quantitative evaluations in composite materials subjected to foreign object impact was established.

  • The microstructure of various shapes of stacking fault pyramids (SFPs) formed in multiple implant/anneal Separation by Implanted Oxygen (SIMOX) material were investigated by plan-view and cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy. In the multiple implant/anneal SIMOX, the defects in the top silicon layer are confined at the interface of the buried oxide layer at a density of ${\sim}10^6\;cm^{-2}$. The dominant defects are perfect and imperfect SFPs. The perfect SFPs were formed by the expansion and interaction of four dissociated dislocations on the {111} pyramidal planes. The imperfect SFPs show various shapes of SFPs, including I-, L-, and Y-shapes. The shape of imperfect SFPs may depend on the number of dissociated dislocations bounded to the top of the pyramid and the interaction of Shockley partial dislocations at each edge of {111} pyramidal planes.
