Removal of Debris Blocking an Entryway: Inverse Kinematic Control and Balancing Controller Design for Humanoid (휴머노이드 로봇의 입구 통로를 막고 있는 잔해 제거를 위한 역 기구학 제어와 자세 제어기 설계)

  • The humanoid robot, DRC-HUBO is developed from the KHR (KAIST Humanoid Robot) series to meet the requirements of the DARPA Robotics Challenge. DARPA Robotics Challenge was a competition to develop semi-autonomous humanoid robot so that dispatched in dangerous environments in place of humans like the Fukushima nuclear accident. In this paper, we introduce DRCH-UBO briefly and a methodology to remove debris blocking an entryway. The methodology includes inverse kinematics for DRC-HUBO and stabilization controller based on ZMP. Proposed inverse kinematics is robust, and pelvis-related tasks improve the manipulability and workspace of the arms. The controller improves the damping characteristic of the system and mitigates the instability during removal of debris. For given position and orientation of the debris, DRC-HUBO generates motion to reach the debris and lift up while stabilizing itself. Many experimental results verify our proposed methodology.

Mixed H_2/H_{\infty}$ controller design algorithm for robust performance optimization (견실성능 최적화를 위한 혼합 H_2/H_{\infty}$ 제어기설계 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, we consider a generalized mixed H_2/H_{\infty}$ output feedback problem. It is finding an internally stabilizing controller that minimizes a mixed $H_{2}$/ $H_{performance}$ measure. We show that a generalized mixed H_2/H_{\infty}$ system with two exogenous inputs and two controlled signals is transformed into auxiliary system with two exogenous inputs and one controlled signal. The two systems have equivalent performance. Therefore, a complete solution of generalized mixed H_2/H_{\infty}$ output feedback problem is achieved by existing results of mixed H_2/H_{\infty}$ control theory.

A Study on Modelling and Attitude Control Techniques of LEO Satellite (저궤도 위성체의 모델링 및 자세제어 기법에 관한 연구)

  • In the three axis control of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite by using reaction wheel and gyro, a reaction wheel produces the control torque by the wheel speed or momentum, and a gyro carries out measuring of the attitude angle and the attitude angular velocity. In this paper, the dynamic modelling of LEO is consisted of the one from the rotational motion of the satellite with basic rigid body model and a flexible model, in addition to the reaction wheel model. A robust controller $(H_\infty)$ is designed to stabilize the rigid body and the flexible body of satellite, which can be perturbed due to disturbance, etc. The result obtained by $H_\infty$ controller is compared with that of the PI (Proportional and Integration) controller, which has been traditionally using for the stabilizing LEO satellite.

Robust Adaptive Nonlinear Control for Tilt-Rotor UAV

  • This paper deals with a waypoint trajectory following problem for the tilt-rotor UAV under development in Korea (TR-KUAV). In this problem, dynamic model inversion based on the linearized model and Sigma-Phi neural network with adaptive weight update are involved to realize the waypoint following algorithm for the vehicle in the helicopter flight mode (nacelle angle=0 deg). This algorithms consists of two main parts: outer-loop system as a command generator and inner-loop system as stabilizing controller. In this waypoint following problem, the position information in the inertial axis is given to the outer-loop system. From this information, Attitude Command/Attitude Hold logic in the longitudinal channel and Rate Command/Attitude Hold logic in the lateral channel are realized in the inner-loop part of the overall structure of the waypoint following algorithm. The nonlinear simulation based on the TR-KUAV is carried out to evaluate the stability and performance of the algorithm. From the numerical simulation results, the algorithm shows very good tracking performance of passing the waypoints given. Especially, it is observed that ACAH/RCAH logic in the inner-loop has the satisfactory performance due to adaptive neural network in spite of the model error coming from the linear model based inversion.

  • All models of dynamical systems invariably have some measure of uncertainties associated with some of their dynamics. The recent approaches to establish robustness of stabilizing feedback control against the possible uncertainties have a serious limitation, that is, their applicability only to the systems that satisfy the matching conditions. Such conditions are rarely met in general applications. If a particular system satisfies the matching conditions, the addition of an actuator will destroy the satisfaction of such conditions. In this paper, we develop robust control algorithm for uncertain multivariable systems in which the matching conditions are not necessarily met. In order to eliminate an influence over partial state variables due to unknown constant disturbances we perform the appropriate block-decomposition for a given system. Functional observers are introduced to estimate the unknown constant disturbances. The sliding mode controller is designed in such a way that the partial state variables in the state-space are directed towards switching surfaces and regulated to the origin asymptotically. Numerical examples are discussed as illustrations.

  • In addition to its modular nature, a Hybrid Modular Multilevel Converter (HMMC) assembled from half-bridge and full-bridge sub-modules, is able to block DC faults with a minimum number of switching devices, which makes it attractive for high power applications. This paper introduces a control strategy based on the Root-Least Square (RLS) algorithm to estimate the capacitor voltages instead of using direct measurements. This action eliminates the need for voltage transducers in the HMMC sub-modules and the associated communication link with the central controller. In addition to capacitor voltage balancing and suppression of circulating currents, a fault tolerant control unit (FTCU) is integrated into the proposed strategy to modify the parameters of the HMMC controller. On advantage of the proposed FTCU is that it does not need extra components. Furthermore, a fault detection unit is adapted by utilizing a hybrid estimation scheme to detect sub-module faults. The behavior of the suggested technique is assessed using PSCAD offline simulations. In addition, it is validated using a real-time digital simulator connected to a real time controller under various normal and fault conditions. The proposed strategy shows robust performance in terms of accuracy and time response since it succeeds in stabilizing the HMMC under faults.

Design of T-S Fuzzy Model Based H Controller for Diving Control of AUV: An LMI Approach (무인 잠수정의 깊이 제어를 위한 T-S 퍼지 모델 기반 H 제어기 설계: 선형 행렬 부등식 접근법)

  • This paper presents a design technique of a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy-model-based $H_{\infty}$ controller for autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). The design procedure aims to render the stabilizing controller which satisfies performance of the diving control for AUVs in the presence of the disturbance. A nonlinear AUV is modeled by the T-S fuzzy system through the sector nonlinearity. By using Lyapunov function, the sufficient conditions are derived to guarantee the performance of robust depth control in the format of linear matrix inequality (LMI). To succeed for diving control of AUV, we add the constraints on the diving and pitch angles in the LMI conditions. Through the simulation, we confirm the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.

Real-Coded Genetic Algorithm Based Design and Analysis of an Auto-Tuning Fuzzy Logic PSS

  • One important issue in power systems is dynamic instability due to loosing balance relation between electrical generation and a varying load demand that justifies the necessity of stabilization. Moreover, Power System Stabilizer (PSS) must have capability of producing appropriate stabilizing signals over a wide range of operating conditions and disturbances. To overcome these drawbacks, this paper proposes a new method for robust design of PSS by using an auto-tuning fuzzy control in combination with Real-Coded Genetic Algorithm (RCGA). This method includes two fuzzy controllers; internal fuzzy controller and supervisor fuzzy controller. The supervisor controller tunes the internal one by on-line applying of nonlinear scaling factors to inputs and outputs. The RCGA-based method is used for off-line training of this supervisor controller. The proposed PSS is tested in three operational conditions; nominal load, heavy load, and in the case of fault occurrence in transmission line. The simulation results are provided to compare the proposed PSS with conventional fuzzy PSS and conventional PSS. By evaluating the simulation results, it is shown that the performance and robustness of proposed PSS in different operating conditions is more acceptable

Design of Time-varying Sliding Surface for Higher-order Uncertain Systems (고차 불확실 시스템을 위한 시변 슬라이딩 평면의 설계)

  • In this paper, we present a new sliding surface with a time-varying repeated root for fast and robust tracking of higher-order uncertain systems. The repeated root is moved to target one with stabilizing the closed-loop time-varying system in sliding mode. This initial root is obtained so that shifting distance of the surface may be minimized with respect to an initial error, and the intercept is produced so that the surface may pass the initial error. Under the allowable input, fast shifting of the surface and movement of the repeated root enable the error convergence rate to be increased. The proposed sliding mode control makes the error always remain on the surface from the beginning, and therefore, the system is more insensitive to parameter uncertainties and external disturbances. In simulation, the effectiveness of the proposed method is proved by comparison with the conventional one.
