목련잎 추출액을 이용한 자성 나노입자의 합성 (Synthesis of Magnetic Nanoparticles Using Magnolia kobus Leaf Extract)

  • When iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles were synthesized by co-precipitation method using aqueous ammonia as reducing agent, the synthesized particles were aggregated and thus precipitation occurred. Using Magnolia kobus leaf extract as reducing agent, spherical nanoparticles of 50~200 nm were synthesized with low yield. By using both Magnolia kobus leaf extract and aqueous ammonia as reducing and stabilizing agents, smaller nanoparticles of 40~120 nm could be synthesized with various shapes. The synthesized magnetic nanoparticles were characterized with field emission transmission electron microscopy (FE-TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). TEM and SEM images showed that the magnetic nanoparticles are a mixture of triangles, tetragons, rods and spherical structures.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa가 생산하는 biosurfactant의 분리 및 특성 (Purification and Properties of Biosurfactant from Pseudomonas aeruginosa KK-7)

  • Biosurfactants produced by Pseudomonas aeroginosa KK-7 were purified and their properties were studied. The bacterial surfactant was seperated into two sorts of biosufactants (Type I, 11) by silica gel column chromatograpgy. On the basis of physiochemical analysis, Type I was found to be mixture of two glycolipids with M.W. 800, and Type II was peptide with M.W. 1300. The Type 11 biosurfactant was compose of glutamic acid, proline, glycine, leucine, histidine. The crude extract was used to dertermine some properties as a surfactant. The biosurfactant had the properties as stronger emulsification agent and a stronger stabilizing agent emulsion than any other surfactants tested.

Synthesis and Characterization of Water Soluble Fluorescent Copper Nanoparticles

  • The electrostatic interaction between emerging quantum-confined nanostructures with plasmonic structures is crucial for future biological applications. Water-soluble green fluorescent copper nanoparticles (Cu-NPs) were fabricated. We demonstrate that L-ascorbic acid is considered as a key to precisely control small Cu-NPs and the capability of the surface ligands, while cetyltrimethylammonium bromide is used as a stabilizing agent controls the particle growth, and stabilizes the nanoparticles. Water-soluble green fluorescent Cu-NPs are tunable through modification of the reaction periods.

증점안정제로 사용한 Xanthan Gum첨가가 김치의 품질에 미치는 영향 (The Quality Characteristics of Kimchi as Affected by the Addition of Xanthan Gum)

  • 배추김치를 만들 때 일반적으로 사용하는 찹쌀풀이나 밀가루풀이 아닌 xanthan gum을 증점안정제로 첨가하여 숙성중 품질 특성을 측정한 결과 xanthan gum을 첨가한 시험구는 김치 담금 직후 및 숙성 중에 대조구보다 다소 높은 pH를 나타내었다. 숙성 15일까지는 xanthan gum을 0.3% 첨가한 시 험구의 pH가 가장 높았으며, 그 이후에는 0.5% 첨가구가 가장 높았다. 적정산도는 xanthan gum을 첨가한 시험구가 대조구보다 대체적으로 적정산도가 낮았다 Xanthan gum 첨가구 중에서는 숙성 20일 경에 0.5% 첨가구가 다른 처리구보다 낮은 적정산도를 나타내었다. 김 치가 숙성됨에 따라 환원당의 함량도 감소하였으며, xanthan gum을 첨가한 시험구는 대조구보다 높은 환원당 함량을 나타내었다. 숙성 10일가지는 총균수가 급격하게 증가하였으며, 그 이후에는 대체적으로감소하였으며, 10일 숙성된 김치 여과액의 점도는 xanthan gum을 0.5% 첨가한 시험구가 대조구보다 8배 이상 높은 값을 나타내었다. 관능검사시 김치의 색갈 및 냄새는 xanthan gum을 첨가한 시험구가 대조구보다 높은 점수를 나타내었다. 맛은 대조구, xanthan gum 0.1%, 0.3% 첨가구가 같은 점수를 얻었으며, 0.5% 첨가구는 가장 낮은 점수를 보였다.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the performance of four commercial chemical agents in stabilizing arsenic (As) in soil at the forest area near the former Janghang smelter site. After amending the stabilizing agents (A, B, C, and D) into As-contaminated soil samples, synthetic precipitation leaching procedure (SPLP) and solubility bioavailability research consortium (SBRC)-extractable As concentrations significantly decreased except for agent D, which is mainly composed of fly ash and calcium carbonate. Increase of SPLP and SBRC-extractable As concentrations in four soil samples (S1, S2, S3, and J2) was attributed to desorption of As adsorbed on iron oxides due to high pH generated by agent D. It is therefore necessary to consider application conditions according to soil characteristics such as pH and buffering capacity. Results of sequential extraction showed that readily extractable fractions of As in soil (i.e., sum of $SO_4-$ and $PO_4-extractable$ As in soil) were converted into non-readily extractable fractions by amending agents A, B, and C. Such changes in the As distribution in soil resulted in the decrease of SPLP and SBRC-extractable As concentration. A series of follow-up monitoring and management plan has been suggested to assess the longevity of the stabilization treatments in the site.

  • 본 연구에서는 각종 유기성 폐수, 생활하수, 분뇨 등의 악취제거를 생물학적 방법으로 처리하기 위한 효율적 고형 미생물 탈취제의 개발을 위해 악취분해 및 유기물 분해 활성이 우수한 유용 미생물들을 선발하고, 안정적이며 경제성 있는 제조방법을 개발하고자 하였다. 먼저 다양한 환경으로부터 농화배양을 통해 유용 광합성 미생물 및 각종 악취환경의 물리 화학적 성상에 부합하는 활성 미생물들을 탐색, 확 보하였다. 또한 미생물의 고농도 배양, 세포의 회수공정, 미량 영양원 및 미생물 안정화제의 첨가, 특히 체제의 재활성화 측면에서 미생물들의 장기 안정성을 도모하기 위한 미생물 전달매체 및 제형화제의 선별과 제형화 기법의 기초를 확립하였다.

복합 착화제 첨가가 무전해 Ni-P 도금액의 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Multi-Complex Agent Addition on Characteristics of Electroless Ni-P Solution)

  • In this study, the effects of multi-complex agents addition on characteristics of electroless Ni plating solution are investigated. The species and the concentration of complexing agents are major factors to control the deposition rate, P concentration, and surface morphology of plating films. Adipic acid increases the deposition rate in regardless of single- or mutli-complex agent addition. However, lactic acid effectively increases the deposition rate in case of multi-addition as the complex agents with adipic or sodium succinate acid. In addition, sodium citric acid and malic acid show good stabilizing effects of plating solution and lowering the deposition rate, because they have high complexibility. Therefore, it is suggested that the development of Ni-P plating solution suitable for diverse usages can be carried out systematically using the database from this study.

Enhanced In Vitro Skin Deposition Properties of Retinyl Palmitate through Its Stabilization by Pectin

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of stabilization of retinyl palmitate (RP) on its skin permeation and distribution profiles. Skin permeation and distribution study were performed using Franz diffusion cells along with rat dorsal skin, and the effect of drug concentration and the addition of pectin on skin deposition profiles of RP was observed. The skin distribution of RP increased in a concentration dependent manner and the formulations containing 0.5 and 1 mg of pectin demonstrated significantly increased RP distributions in the epidermis. Furthermore, it was found that skin distribution of RP could be further improved by combined use of pectin and ascorbyl palmitate (AP), due largely to their anti-oxidative effect. These results clearly demonstrate that the skin deposition properties of RP can be improved by stabilizing RP with pectin. Therefore, it is strongly suggested that pectin could be used in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic formulations as an efficient stabilizing agent and as skin penetration modulator.

Stability Enhancement of hGM-CSF in Transgenic Nicotiana tabacum Suspension Cell Cultures

  • Proteolytic enzymes existing in plant cell cultured media are the major reason for the loss of secreted human granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (hGM-CSF). The addition of pepstatin, aprotinin and PMSF relatively decreased the proteolytic degradation of hGM-CSF in a conditioned medium, but sufficient prevention against the proteolytic activity could not be obtained with chemical protease inhibitors. Gelatin, as a competitive substrate for protease, showed a stabilizing effect in a conditioned medium. Compared to the initial hGM-CSF concentration in a conditioned medium. with 10 g/L of gelatin, 68% of the hGM-CSF remained after 5 days. In a cell culture experiment, 5 g/L of gelatin significantly stimulated the hGM-CSF production and accumulation in culture media, with no growth inhibition. compared to the controls (4.72 $\mu\textrm{g}$/L), the extracellular hGM-CSF level could be increased to 39.78 $\mu\textrm{g}$/L with the addition of 5 g/L of gelatin.

Peat stabilization using cement, polypropylene and steel fibres

  • This article describes a laboratory research on stabilizing tropical peat using ordinary Portland cement (OPC) as a binding agent, and polypropylene and steel fibres as chemically inert additives. California bearing ratio (CBR) and unconfined compressive strength (UCS) tests were carried out to evaluate the increase in the strength of the stabilized samples compacted at their optimum moisture contents and air cured for up to 90 days. The results show that the UCS values of stabilized peat samples increased by as high as 748.8% by using OPC (5%), polypropylene fibres (0.15%), and steel fibres (2%). The CBR values of the samples stabilized with OPC (5%), polypropylene fibres (0.15%), and steel fibres (4%) showed an increase of as high as 122.7%. The stabilized samples showed a shrinkage in volume upon air curing and this shrinkage was measured by an index called, volume shrinkage index (VSI). The highest VSI recorded was 36.19% for peat without any additives; and the minimum was 0% for the sample containing 30% OPC, 0.15% polypropylene fibres and 2% steel fibres. The technique of stabilizing peat with OPC, polypropylene and fibres, coupled with air curing, appears to be cost-effective compared with other frequently used techniques.
