Isotropic pitch-based fibers produced from coal tar pitch with the melt-blowing method were carbonized at temperatures ranging from 800 to $1600^{\circ}C$ to investigate their crystalline structure and physical properties as a function of the carbonization temperature. The in-plane crystallite size ($L_a$) of the carbonized pitch fiber from X-ray diffraction increased monotonously by increasing the carbonization temperature resulting in a gradual increase in the electrical conductivity from 169 to 3800 S/cm. However, the variation in the $d_{002}$ spacing and stacking height of the crystallite ($L_c$) showed that the structural order perpendicular to the graphene planes got worse in carbonization temperatures from 800 to $1200^{\circ}C$ probably due to randomization through the process of gas evolution; however, structural ordering eventually occurred at around $1400^{\circ}C$. For the carbonized pitch powder without stabilization, structural ordering perpendicular to the graphene planes occurred at around $800-900^{\circ}C$ indicating that oxygen was inserted during the stabilization process. Additionally, the shear stress that occurred during the melt-blowing process might interfere with the crystallization of the CPF.

In recent, the collapses of cut-slope is gradually increased due to the heavy rains accompanied by typhoon. Specially, many cut-slope failures and landslides was happened to Goheung, Yeosu, Suncheon region, Jeonranamdo in the middle of September 2007. The slope of investigation is width 20 m, height 22 m, and the circular failure was occurred. The parent rocks of the slope are pyroclastic rock, namely andesite, andesitic tuff et al. and the weathering grade is completely weathered to residual soils owing to rapid weathering process and has the existence of fault zone and mafic dyke. Also, lots of extension cracks are presented and the hydrologic condition is very deteriorated. As a result of the limit equilibrium analysis, the safety factor is 1.09(in dry season) and 0.64(in wet season). For the stabilization of the cut-slope, we decided to use the retaining wall, anchors and drainage apparatus.

In this study of lifted hydrogen jet with coaxial air, we have experimentally studied the characteristics of stabilization point in turbulent diffusion flames. The objectives are to present the phenomenon of a liftoff height decreasing as increasing fuel velocity and to analyse the flame structure and behavior including liftoff mechanisms. The fuel jet exit velocity was changed from 100 up to 300 m/s and a coaxial air velocity was fixed at 16 m/s with a coflow air less than 0.1 m/s. For the simultaneous measurement of velocity field and reaction zone, PIV and OH PLIF technique was used with two Nd:Yag lasers and CCD cameras. It has been suggested that the stabilization of lifted hydrogen diffusion flames was correlated with a turbulent intensity, $S_t{\sim}u^{\prime}$, and jet Reynolds number, $S_t{\sim}Re^{0.017}_{jet}$.

In order to investigate stabilization effect on As-contaminated soils treated by zero-valent iron(ZVI) and industrial by-products, batch tests and column tests were carried out with As-contaminated soils collected from farmland around the abandoned mine site. In batch tests, ZVI and industrial by-products(blast furnace slag, steel refining slag and oyster shell powder) were used as treatment materials to reduce As. Industrial by-products were mixed with As-contaminated soils, in the ratio of 1%, 3%, 5% and 7% on the weight base of dried soil. After incubation, all samples showed the reduction of As concentration and it was expected that ZVI and steel refining slag were effective treatment materials to remove As among treatment materials used in batch test. In column tests, columns were made by acrylic with the dimension of diameter=10cm, height=100cm, thickness=1cm and these columns were filled with untreated soils and treated soils mixed with ZVI and steel refining slag(mixing ratio=3%). Distilled water was discharged into the columns with the velocity of 1 pore-volume/day. During test, pH, EC, Eh and As concentration were measured in the regular term(1 pore-volume). As a result, ZVI and steel refining slag were shown 93%, 62% reduction of As concentration respectively by comparison with untreated soils. Therefore, if ZVI and steel refining slag are used as treatment materials in As-contaminated soils, it is expected that the As concentration in soils is reduced effectively.
This study was executed to analyze the stress distribution of tooth, supporting structure and overdenture by two-dimensional photoelastics when 6 types of coping were inserted. Types of coping were designed to be inclined plane, short dome, medium dome, shore square, medium square and o-p anchor attachment. Fortes were applied respectively as follows: 1) Vertical load of 10 kg on the incisal edge 2) $30^{\circ}$ diagonal load of 8 kg on the labial surface. The results were as follows: 1. In case of short dome and o-p anchor attachment, the stress is evenly distributed on teeth, supporting tissue structure under vertical and $30^{\circ}$ diagonal load, then short dome and o-p anchor attachment show better stress distribution and stabilization of overdenture than any other coping under labial diagonal load. 2. Inclined plane revealed greater tendency of displacement of overdenture than any other coping under labial diagonal load. 3. Long height of copings had greater concentration of stress than short height of copings. 4. In case of medium dome under labial diagonal load, there were high level of stress concentration on denture base contacted labioincisal angle of coping.
The resistance of soil to the tractive force of flowing water is one of the essential parameters for the stability of the soil when directly exposed to the movement of water such as in rivers and ocean beds. Biopolymers, which are new to sustainable geotechnical engineering practices, are known to enhance the mechanical properties of soil. This study addresses the surface erosion resistance of river-sand treated with several biopolymers that originated from micro-organisms, plants, and dairy products. We used a state-of-the-art erosion function apparatus with P-wave reflection monitoring. Experimental results have shown that biopolymers significantly improve the erosion resistance of soil surfaces. Specifically, the critical shear stress (i.e., the minimum shear stress needed to detach individual soil grains) of biopolymer-treated soils increased by 2 to 500 times. The erodibility coefficient (i.e., the rate of increase in erodibility as the shear stress increases) decreased following biopolymer treatment from 1 × 10-2 to 1 × 10-6 times compared to that of untreated river-sands. The scour prediction calculated using the SRICOS-EFA program has shown that a height of 14 m of an untreated surface is eroded during the ten years flow of the Nakdong River, while biopolymer treatment reduced this height to less than 2.5 m. The result of this study has demonstrated the possibility of cross-linked biopolymers for river-bed stabilization agents.
The purpose of this study was to investigate if there were a significant differences in mandibular position between cephalometric measurements from a centric occlusion tracing compared to those of a acquired centric relation by stabilization splint on malocclusion patient with TMD. 60 malocclusion patients, who had TMD and CO-CR discrepancy beyond normal range, were selected and subdivided into Class I, II, III by Angle's classification and also subdivided into clockwise, straight downward, and counterclockwise group by Jarabak's posterior facial height/anterior facial height ratio. Lateral cephaolmetric radiographs with the mandible in centric occlusion were taken and measured, and for each Patient the stabilization splint with mutually protected occlusal scheme was applied for minimum 3months. After each patient's CO-CR discrepancy was in normal range, lateral cephalometric radiographs were retaken and measured. The comparison of the difference between CO-CR cephalometric measurements in all sample, Class I, II, III groups, and Clockwise, Straight downward, Counterclockwise groups were studied. The finding of this study can be summarized as follows: 1 In all sample, the value of cephalometric measurements was significantly different between CO-CR. The mandible rotated to down and posterior position and the vertical change was greater than the horizontal change (overjet-1.3mm increase, overbite-1.9mm decrease). 2. In Class II malocclusion group, most of the mean difference value between CO-CR is higher than that of the other groups and more measurements was statically significant. 3. In clockwise and counterclockwise group, some of the mean difference value is higher than that of straight downward group and more measurements was statically significant. 4. There ware no measurements that explain centric relation measurements from the type of malocclusion, facial pattern and centric occlusion measurements. Henceforth, it is strongly recommended that stabilization splint therapy for orthodontic treatment on TMD patient should be excuted upon overall facial types prior to orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning.

Objective : The purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy of short segment fixation following postural reduction for the re-expansion and stabilization of unstable burst fractures in patients with osteoporosis. Methods : Twenty patients underwent short segment fixation following postural reduction using a soft roll at the involved vertebra in cases of severely collapsed vertebrae of more than half their original height. All patients had unstable burst fracture with canal compromise, but their motor power was intact. The surgical procedure included postural reduction for 2 days and bone cement-augmented pedicle screw fixations at one level above, one level below and the fractured level itself. Imaging and clinical findings, including the level of the vertebra involved, vertebral height restoration, injected cement volume, local kyphosis, clinical outcome and complications were analyzed. Results : The mean follow-up period was 15 months. The mean pain score (visual analogue scale) prior to surgery was 8.1, which decreased to 2.8 at 7 days after surgery. The kyphotic angle improved significantly from $21.6{\pm}5.8^{\circ}$ before surgery to $5.2{\pm}3.7^{\circ}$ after surgery. The fraction of the height of the vertebra increased from 35% and 40% to 70% in the anterior and middle portion. There were no signs of hardware pull-out, cement leakage into the spinal canal or aggravation of kyphotic deformities. Conclusion : In the management of unstable burst fracture in patients with severe osteoporosis, short segment pedicle screw fixation with bone cement augmentation following postural reduction can be used to reduce the total levels of pedicle screw fixation and to correct kyphotic deformities.
Leading front of a lifted diffusion flame in turbulent mixing layer was investigated in order to find a appropriate definition of the turbulent edge propagation speed. The turbulent lifted diffusion flame was simulated by employing the flame hole dynamics combined with level-set method which yields a temporally evolving turbulent extinction process. By tracing the leading front locations of the temporal flame edges, temporal variations of the liftoff height, local flow velocity, and edge propagation speed at the leading front were investigated and they demonstrated the flame-stabilization condition of the turbulent lifted flame. Finally, a turbulent edge propagation speed was defined and its temporal variation from the simulation was discussed.
