One of the notable changes in Korean Industry in 1990's was globalization. Many of Korea plants have been built In the foreign countries and many of foreign plants have been build in Korea. And it is believed that many foreign insurance companies will begin their business in Korea soon, as Korea will open their insurance market to them. While sprinkler system plays very important role in total fire protection system, Korean sprinkler system design has not been studied in depth. Thus, it is not easy to convince the performance of Korean sprinkler system and compare it to NFPA 13, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler System. Design guideline from both system will be listed and compared in detail. Fire water demand from both system will be reviewed to evaluate its adequacy. Water spray density and actuation time will be estimated, too.
In this research, configulation of outside sprinkler system the prevention and postponement of vertical diffusion of blaze was studied prior to this study, vertical diffusion protecting sprinkler head has been developed and the sprinkler system was applied with discharge pressure of 0.05 MPa and flow of 60 l/min witch is stated in NFPA13's Exposure Protection Sprinkler Systems. Through the system design, we applied the system to the sample building and we made pertinent system to work manually and automatically linked to a fire alarm system. Also, we conducted a real-size mock up test verify the cooling effect of the outer wall and the postponement effect of the flame.
In this research, full-scale fire test was performed on a real house for the evaluation of the performance of waterworks direct-coupled sprinkler system. The fire was set to occur as spontaneous combustion as the cooking oil overheats. The size of house is $56m^2$ and it consists of a living room, a kitchen, and a room. In order to verify the performance of waterworks direct-coupled sprinkler system, it was installed in the kitchen. The result of the test showed that the fire started from the kitchen enlarged up to its ceiling but it was soon exhausted as the sprinkler started to work. The pressure of the waterworks was 0.28 MPa when the sprinkler operated, by which it verified that fire could go out even by waterworks pressure of the general residence.
Purpose: This study aims to draw the problems and improvements of NFSC 103 sprinkler head discharge obstruction prevention standard to increase the fire extinguishing performance of sprinkler system in order to contribute to the protection of people's lives and property in the event of a fire. Method: NFSC 103 was compared to NFPA 13 which is the latest 2019 version in U.S in terms of sprinkler head discharge obstruction prevention. Results: This study found that NFSC 103 doesn't define even the basic concept of sprinkler discharge obstruction. And NFSC 103 doesn't have detailed standard for side wall sprinkler head discharge obstruction prevention as well as the "height" criteria of the "three times" separation rule. Conclusion: NFSC 103 needs a lot of supplements and improvements such as the addition of definition for water discharge obstructions, the adoption of sidewall sprinkler heads standard for preventing water discharge obstructions and the additional establishment of the "three times rule" considering the "height" of obstacles to promote the advance of fire safety standard equal or above fire fighting advanced country and increase the reliability for the suppression performance of sprinkler system.

This research is about alternative measure of main components for sprinkler system like automatic wet pipe sprinkler system, dry pipe sprinkler system, pre-action sprinkler system, vacuum sprinkler system, deluge sprinkler system, and so on. By replacing the alarm check valve, dry valve, pre-operated valve, and deluge open valve with a solenoid valve, it be can be simplifed the various processes of the manufacturing process into one process, it creates an environment in which one standardized product can be produced simultaneously on a single machine. Therefore, it could improve the price competitiveness of products, reduce the maintenance cost, and help the adaptability of new sprinkler systems in the future. There is a benefit when it comes to apply to sprinkler system. Only replace the valve which is used to control primary and secondary valve such as wet, dry, pre operated, vacuum, deluge system valve. Other components such as retarding chambers, automatic air compressors, accelerators or adjusters, supervisory panels, vacuum pumps, and manual starters can be used as they are, so they can be easily applied to existing sprinkler system. It is needed to legal and institutional study for solenoid valve applied sprinkler system to commercialize.

The aim of this study is to find out the water spray features of in-rack sprinklers for rack storage. This study conducted cold water flow test, measurement of spray angle and densities by angles for sprinkler head manufactured by a Korean company and a U.S. company. Korean sprinkler head had a wide angle of water spary. The water spray angle of a U.S. sprinkler head was narrow compared to the Korean sprinkler. In comparison of the Korean head with U.S. head of the same K80, the Korean head can send water to parts that are difficult to directly spray, but the spraying density by angle was low. U.S. head can send more water than Korean head at a narrow angle. In conclusion, for flammable materials placed in two or more rows in a rack storage, a zigzag arrangement with face sprinklers will be effective.
The present study investigates the effects of sprinkler spray on fire driven flow characteristics in a compartment based on numerical approach. The FDS (Fire Dynamics Simulator), a widely used fire field model, was used to simulate the fire induced flow and sprinkler spray and a series of grid independence tests have been performed to obtain the optimal grid size. In order to validate the result predicted by FDS model, the calculated results were compared with experimental results of Magnone et al.. The FDS model matches quite well to experiments in temperature profile and mass flux through doorway, however, the discrepancy between the FDS model and experiments increases with increasing water discharge rate. As with previous study, the FDS calculation also shows a decrease of mass flow rate of combustion products through doorway due to the sprinkler spray. This study can contribute to optimize the sprinkler system design and verify the validity of the fire field model with sprinkler spray.
The present study examined the free surface flow of a liquid sheet near a sprinkler head using a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model and considered the feasibility of the empirical model for predicting the initial spray characteristics of the sprinkler head through a comparison of the CFD results. The CFD calculation for a simplified sprinkler geometry considering the nozzle and deflector were performed using the commercially available CFD package, CFX 14.0 with the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model and theVolume of Fluid (VOF) method. The predicted velocity of the empirical model at the edge of deflector were in good agreement with that of the CFD model for the flat plate region but there was a certain discrepancy between the two models for the complex geometry region. The mean droplet diameter predicted by the empirical model differed significantly from the measured value of the real sprinkler head. On the other hand, the empirical model can be used to understand the mechanism of droplet formation near the sprinkler head and predict the initial spray characteristics for cases without experimental data.
In this study, the experiment conditions for the variation of heat release rate in compartment space were constructed to analyze the effects of fire spread and the operation time of sprinkler in accordance with the heat loss of the sprinkler's heat element. The compartment composed of fire board (width = 0.3 m, height = 0.5 m, length = 3.0 m), are manufactured to measure the temperature distributions in the inner space, the mass loss rate and heat release rate during the experiment of N-heptane pool fire test. Also, the operation time of sprinkler is analyzed with the installation of sprinkler and C-factor using Fire Dynamics Simulator Ver.6 under the experiment conditions. The results show that the operation time of sprinkler, which has RTI $100(m{\cdot}s)^{0.5}$ operating temperature $70^{\circ}C$, is 30 s~60 s for C-factor = 0 and 1, 62 s~92 s for C-factor = 3, and 120 s over for C-factor = 5, respectively.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to test the sprinkler performance to protect the wall and ceiling joints of the sandwich panel warehouse in case of fire. Method: Based on the field surveys, test was setup and combustibles were prepared. The sprinkler discharge tests were performed at the corner of the wall and right under the sprinkler head. Results: It has been found that operation of the K-80 closed sprinkler head prevents the ignition of the sandwich panel and therefore no damage to the joints of sandwich panels. To prevent skipping phenomenon, it is necessary to install the sprinkler head from the corner of the wall and to keep a minimum distance of 2.4m and a maximum distance of 3m. Conclution: A Standard Operation Procedure should be prepared to suppress and rescue of fire brigade for a sandwich panel warehouse protected by perimeter sprinklers preventing a ignition of core materials and control fire.
