  • It can be classified in various methods to get the geoidal heights. It can be achieved geometric geoidal heights if we do GPS surveying in leveling point. The aims of this paper are calculation of geometric geoidal heights using GPS/leveling data in study area and evaluation of the global and local geoid models in and around Korean peninsula. For this study, study area was selected in the leveling line from Kunsan to Chonju city and GPS surveying was accomplished in the leveling line. And, also spherical harmonic analysis was made on the three global geopotential models, OSU91A, EGM96, EGM96m under same condition. Then the differences were calculated between geometric geoidal heights and geoidal heights of 3 geopotential models, KOGD2002 which was Korean gravimetric geoid model. The results shows that EGM96m is the best model because the differences between geoidal heights of E6M96m and geometric geoidal heights of GPS/Leveling data appear the smallest value among them.

  • The new gravity field combination models are expected to improve the knowledge of the Earth's global gravity field. This study evaluates six global gravity field models derived from gravimetry and altimetry surface data in a comparison with ground truth in South Korea. For calculating a more accurate estimate of the geoid heights from the height anomalies, the terrain corrections due to the terrain masses over geoid have considered, the model for the topographic correction is a spherical harmonic expansion of the ETOPO2 DTM model. Geoid heights obtained from GPS and levelling in land area of South Korea are compared with those from the EGMs. The results show that EIGEN-CG03C EGM and EIGEN-GL04C EGM displayed the nearest results to GPS/leveling, and also confirmed the importance of terrain correction for geoid height in case of the uneven topography.

  • The G-protein coupled receptor 87 (GPR87) is a recently discovered orphan GPCR which means that the search of their endogenous ligands has been a novel challenge. GPR87 has been shown to be overexpressed in squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) or adenocarcinomas in lungs and bladder. The 3D structure of GPR87 was here modeled using two templates (2VT4 and 2ZIY) by a threading method. Functional assignment of GPR87 by SVM revealed that along with transporter activity, various novel functions were predicted. The 3D structure was further validated by comparison with structural features of the templates through Verify-3D, ProSA and ERRAT for determining correct stereochemical parameters. The resulting model was evaluated by Ramachandran plot and good 3D structure compatibility was evidenced by DOPE score. Molecular dynamics simulation and solvation of protein were studied through explicit spherical boundaries with a harmonic restraint membrane water system. A DRY-motif (Asp-Arg-Tyr sequence) was found at the end of transmembrane helix3, where GPCR binds and thus activation of signals is transduced. In a search for better inhibitors of GPR87, in silico modification of some substrate ligands was carried out to form polar interactions with Arg115 and Lys296. Thus, this study provides early insights into the structure of a major drug target for SCCs.

  • The electronic absorption spectra of trans-$[CrX_2([15]aneN_4)]ClO_4\;([15]aneN_4$=1,4,8,12-tetraazacyclopentadecane; X=F, Cl) complexes have been interpreted using the ligand field theory. An AOMX program is used to optimize the differences between the calculated and the observed positions for the spin-allowed transition bands. The crystal field theory(CFT) parameter is directly related to the angular overlap model(AOM), normalized spherical harmonic hamiltonians(NSH), and semiempirical parameters. The various ligand field parameters are discussed in terms of their chemical significances. According to the ligand field analysis, we can confirm that the fluoride ligand is a very strong ${\sigma}-$ and ${\pi}-$donor while the chloride has weak ${\sigma}-$ and ${\pi}-$donor properties toward chromium(III) ion.

  • The research of global-scale mass redistribution and it changed by Earth gravity filed variation observations, including Earth's oblateness $J_2$(also called low degree spherical harmonic coefficient $C_{20}$), is in continuous progress. Recently, the comparative analysis of geodetic observation SLR can be made by the development of GRACE and other time-variable gravity measurements. In this study, $C_{20}$ time series changes in the value of comparative analysis was got by GRACE monthly Gravity filed model (CSR RL04) for the period April 2002 to May 2008. And comparative analysis the harmonic coefficients of $C_{20}$ was obtained from SLR observations. Signal analysis for two time-series data was made by wavelet transform, CWT(continuous wavelet transform), XWT(cross wavelet transform) and WTC(wavelet coherence) methods. The results indicate that GRACE and SLR values for $C_{20}$ had both decreasing trend, as well as SLR data represent the annual frequencies, and GRACE was semiannual variations. In addition, the results of GRACE and SLR had a strong correlation with the XWT and WTC in an annual cycle.

  • Satellite magnetic observations reflect the magnetic properties of deep crust about the depth of Curie isotherm that is a boundary where the magnetic nature of the rocks is disappeared, showing long wavelength anomalies that are not easily detected in near-surface data from airborne and shipborne surveys. For this reason, they are important not only in the analyses on such as plate reconstruction of tectonic boundaries and deep crustal structures, but in the studies of geothermal distribution in Antarctic and Greenland crust, related to global warming issue. It is a conventional method to compute the spherical harmonic coefficients from global coverage of satellite magnetic observations but it should be noted that inclusion of erroneous data from the equator and the poles where magnetic observations are highly disturbed might mislead the global model of the coefficients. Otherwise, the reduced anomaly model can be obtained with less corruption by choosing the area of interest with proper data processing to the area. In this study, I produced a satellite crustal magnetic anomaly map over East Asia (20° ~ 55°N, 108° ~ 150°E) centered on Korean Peninsula, from CHAMP satellite magnetic measurements about mean altitude of 280 km during the last year of the mission, and compared with the one from global crustal magnetic model (MF7). Also, a comparison was made with long wavelength anomalies from EMAG2 model compiled from all near-surface data over the globe.

  • Three-dimensional nonlinear sloshing effects due to tank motions are simulated by solving boundary value problem using the panel method based on boundary integral technique. While Shinkai used boundary elements on which source strengths vary linearly between nodes, the source of constant strength is distributed on each triangular panel in the present study. The source strength at each time step is determined by solving the Fredholm integral equation of the second kind obtained from Green's theorem. To avoid cumulative numerical errors as time elapses, Adam-Bashforth-Moulton method is employed. Numerical examples for the case of partially filled spherical tank on board oscillating in harmonic sway mode or pitch mode are solved. The elevation of the free surface is compared with the result by Shinkai and confirmed in good agreement during early time. The input and the output energy are comparatively evaluated to check the overall accuracy of the present numerical scheme. Although some leakage of energy are found as time marches, it is plausible when we take into account nonlinearities of the problem and the number of panels of the model.
