Among induced polarization (IP) methods, spectral IP (SIP) uses alternating current as a transmission source to measure amplitudes and phase of complex electrical resistivity at each source frequency, which disperse with respect to source frequencies. The frequency dependence, which can be explained by a relaxation model such as Cole-Cole model or equivalent models, is analyzed to estimate SIP parameters from dispersion curves of complex resistivity employing multi-objective optimization (MOO). The estimation uses a generic algorithm to optimize two objective functions minimizing data misfits of amplitude and phase based on Cole-Cole model, which is most widely used to explain IP relaxation effects. The MOO-based estimation properly recovered Cole-Cole model parameters for synthetic examples but hardly fitted for the real laboratory measures ones, which have relatively smaller values of phases (less than about 10 mrad). Discrepancies between scales for data misfits of amplitude and phase, used as parameters of MOO method, and it is in necessity to employ other methods such as machine learning, which can deal with the discrepancies, to estimate SIP parameters from dispersion curves of complex resistivity.

This paper proposes an improved discrete Fourier transform spread single sideband(DFT-s-SSB) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) system that solves the problems of conventional DFT-s-SSB OFDM systems. Conventional DFT-s-SSB systems use pulse amplitude modulation(PAM) for applying SSB modulation. The higher the modulation level, the worse is the BER performance. Further, transmission is possible only through the lower sideband(LSB) spectrum. When transmitting using the LSB and upper sideband(USB) spectra simultaneously, interference occurs and spectrum recovery is not performed correctly. To solve this problem, the proposed system applies the 2/3 convolution coding to improve the bit error rate(BER) performance, adjusts the DFT size, and selects the USB spectrum to utilize the remaining spectrum resources. In addition, when using this system in an environment that supports multiuser or limited bandwidth, it uses only half of the spectrum; therefore, it can utilize the remaining spectrum resources and improve the spectral efficiency.
In coastal bay waters, bubbles are generated by relatively heavy ship-traffic, breaking waves due to man-made structures and biological activities. Therefore, the bubble-generating mechanism as well as the bubble density distribution in the bay are quite different from the open ocean where breaking waves are major contributor for bubble density distribution. High frequency surface-backscattered signals were obtained in the coastal bay waters and they were analyzed to compare with those from the open waters in terms of the sea-surface backscattering strength at various grazing angles, the reverberation characteristics in the sub-surface layer and spectral spreading of the scattered signals. The results show that, the surface scattered signals have an irregular distribution of amplitude in time and the width of the spectral spreading is wider than that of the open sea with rough surface. Furthermore, the amplitude distribution of the reverberation signals is not following the Rayleigh distribution, that is eon to be a typical pattern for the open ocean. The results of our analysis imply that the bubble size and the bubble density in the bay are quite different from those observed in the open waters.

In this study, the PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) piero-film sensor was applied to measure the internal quality of apple. The developed sensor detected the response signal through apple after mechanical impact on the surface of apple. The acoustical parameters at time domain such as rise time (RT), ring down count (RC), energy (EN), event duration (ED) and peak amplitude (PA) and acoustical parameter at frequency domain such as spectral density (SE) were analyzed. The size of waveform decreased as storage time of apple increased. The frequency at maximum magnitude was shifted to lower frequency band according to the storage time. The acoustical parameters showed strong relationship with storage time. The multiple linear regression equation was developed to estimate storage time of apple using the acoustical parameters at time domain and its coefficient of determination was 0.97. The internal quality of apple according to storage time is predictable using developed PVDF sensor and acoustical parameters defined in this study.
This paper describes a method of detecting formation boundaries, and permeable fractures, from frequency-domain Stoneley wave logs. Field data sets were collected between the depths of 330 and 360 m in well EE-4 in the Higashi-Hachimantai geothermal field, using a monopole acoustic logging tool with a source central frequency of 15 kHz. Stoneley wave amplitude spectra were calculated by performing a fast Fourier transform on the waveforms, and the spectra were then collected into a frequency-depth distribution of Stoneley wave amplitudes. The frequency-domain Stoneley wave log shows four main characteristic peaks at frequencies 6.5, 8.8, 12, and 13.3 kHz. The magnitudes of the Stoneley wave at these four frequencies are affected by formation properties. The Stoneley wave at higher frequencies (12 and 13.3 kHz) has higher amplitudes in hard formations than in soft formations, while the wave at lower frequencies (6.5 and 8.8 kHz) has higher amplitudes in soft formations than in hard formations. The correlation of the frequency-domain Stoneley wave log with the logs of lithology, degree of welding, and P-wave velocity is excellent, with all of them showing similar discontinuities at the depths of formation boundaries. It is obvious from these facts that the frequency-domain Stoneley wave log provides useful clues for detecting formation boundaries. The frequency-domain Stoneley wave logs are also applicable to the detection of a single permeable fracture. The procedure uses the Stoneley wave spectral amplitude logs at the four frequencies, and weighting functions. The optimally weighted sum of the four Stoneley wave spectral amplitudes becomes almost constant at all depths, except at the depth of a permeable fracture. The assumptions that underlie this procedure are that the energy of the Stoneley wave is conserved in continuous media, but that attenuation of the Stoneley wave may occur at a permeable fracture. This attenuation may take place at anyone of the four characteristic Stoneley wave frequencies. We think our multispectral approach is the only reliable method for the detection of permeable fractures.

Two-dimensional large-amplitude motions in regular harmonic wave are treated in time domain, by satisfying the exact body boundary condition and the linear free surface condition. For the present numerical calculation, the method of free-surface spectral representation with simple source distribution on the instantaneous body surface has been extended to include the effect of the incident wave. Calculations of the wave exciting force are performed for a submerged circular cylinder fixed or oscillating with large amplitude. Especially, nonlinear effects on the time-mean forces are studied in detail. It is shown that relative motion between the body and the fluid particle gives a significant effect on the lift and drift forces. Also, large-amplitude motion of a submerged circular cylinder and that of a floating Lewis-form cylinder are directly simulated in time domain. In the calculation results, some nonlinear effects are shown.

Several parameters to represent the characteristics of the observed at the domestic networks from several earthquakes occurred in the Korean Peninsula. Parameters to fit most the multiple Fourier amplitude spectra of the observed accelerations are estimated. This study adopts the stochastic ground motion model referred to the BLWN mode in which the energy is distributed randomly over the duration of the source and which has proven to be very effective in modeling a wide range of ground motion observations. The stochastic ground motion model employed here uses an omega-squared ({{{{ omega ^2 }}) Brune source model with a single corner frequency and a constant stress drop,. The {{{{ omega ^2 }} source model has become a seismological standard because of its simplicity an ability to predict spectral amplitudes and shapes over an extremely broad ranges of magnitudes distances and from the inversion show very unstable based on the fact of high values of mean/median. These results may imply that more observed data and more precise site classification including accurate preparation analysis of data such as more accurate scaling from counts to kine are needed for more stable are effective inversion of Fourier amplitude spectrum of the observed ground motions.
The flow past a circular cylinder forced to vibrate transversely is numerically simulated by solving the two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations modified by the vibration velocity of a circular cylinder at a Reynolds number of 164. The higher-order finite difference scheme is employed for the spatial discretization along with the second order Adams-Bashforth and the first order backward-Euler time integration. The calculated cylinder vibration frequency is between 0.60 and 1.30 times of the natural vortex-shedding frequency. The calculated oscillation amplitude extends to 25% of the cylinder diameter and in the case of the lock-in region it is 60%. It is made clear that the cylinder oscillation has influence on the wake pattern, the time histories of the drag and lift forces, power spectral density and phase diagrams, etc. It is found that these results include both the periodic (lock-in) and the quasi-periodic (non-lock-in) state. The vortex shedding frequency equals the driving frequency in the lock-in region but is independent in the non-lock-in region. The mean drag and the maximum lift coefficient increase with the increase of the forcing amplitude in the lock-in state. The lock-in boundaries are also established from the present direct numerical simulation.

It is very important to design of QAM modulator of high spectral efficiency for high speed data transmission. In this paper, typical 16-QAM modulator is designed by modification design of DDFS(direct digital frequency synthesizer). DDFS generates sinusoidal waveform digitally to the frequency setting word. Phase modulation is accuratly made by control of a generated phase increment value and amplitude modulation is accomplished in the D/A converter output by control of amplitude level. For the suppression of harmonics and glitch, dual-structured DDFS is studied to improve the spurious characteristics. P-Spice is used for design and simulation in mixed mode. Also we can get the satisfactory results of designed 16-QAM modulator from the constellation output.
