  • The three-dimensional estimation on the depth and height of flaw by using the difference of radiographic contrast density was studied. First, the specimens having artificial flaws of various depths and heights were prepared and the radiographic testing was performed. The radiographic depth of flaw was investigated and estimated on the effect of the scattered radiation with the change of distance between flaw and film. The height of flaw was estimated from the radiographic test with the reference specimen. The radiographic contrast with flaw depth decreased with increasing the flaw depth. The scattered radiation increased with increasing flaw depth and varied with the location between flaw and film. However, in the case of flaw height, the contrast density increased with increasing flaw height. It is thought due to the change in volume generating the scattered radiation which reaches a film.

  • The properties and weldability of lap joints by PFSW with 1050 Al sheet was investigated according to tool shape. dimension and welding condition. Tensile shear test was carried out for lap jointed specimen, and the hardness in the joint regions was examined. Moreover interfacial joining length, metallograph and failure location of the lap-jointed cross section were discussed. Two tool types were a simple cylindrical type and a notched cylindrical type. Under joining conditions such as plunging depth of 2.2mm. rotating speed of 1600rpm and dwelling time of 3s, the tensile shear strength of lap-jointed specimen by the notched type tool was superior to that by simple cylindrical type tool. The maximum tensile shear load of lap jointed specimen was 5807N. Optimal dimensions of the notched type tool were as follows : diameters of the shoulder and pin were $18{\phi}mm$ and $10{\phi}mm$, and pin length was 2.2mm.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the resolution of tomographic images which can be obtained with Scanning Tomographic Acoustic Microscope(STAM) utilizing the acousto-optic effect. To realize this, lateral and depth resolutions of both ultrasonic transducer and specimen rotating device are obtained by using BFP tomographic reconstruction algorithm. Simulation results show that both rotating devices have a good depth resolution of $1.5{\lambda}$. For the lateral resolution, the specimen rotating device produces $0.53{\lambda}$ in the x and y directions and the transducer rotating device produces $0.56{\lambda}$ and $0.70{\lambda}$ in the x and y directions respectively. These results imply that the specimen rotating device is more suitable for STAM system construction.

  • In this study, relations among unconfined compressive strength, strain at maximum strength and depth were compared with each other. Test specimen is marine clay originated from the place near Ga-duck island in Busan city. In addition, influence of impure material contained in specimen and that of total core recovery(TCR) on unconfined compressive strength and degree of disturbance were investigated. As a result of tests, unconfined compressive strength decreases as strain corresponding to maximum strength increases. Also, the deeper the sampling depth and the bigger the TCR, the unconfined compressive strength increases. Especially, as the TCR increases, the unconfined compressive strength Increases and quality of specimen is enhanced.

  • Experimental study was conducted for lapping process after WEDMed specimen. In order to decide the lapping depth of the specimen, the number of the grain size was increased from 400, 600 to 800 to obtain the better surface. Observation of scanning electron microscope, hardness test, surface roughness test and energy dispersive spectrum(EDS) analysis were used for this experimental study. From the comparison and analyses of the results of between the wire-cut electrical discharge machining and the lapping, the following results were obtained. The surface roughness after lapping was found to be improved as increasing the number of lapping process like 1st, 2nd, 3rd lapping and the number of grain size such as 400, 600, 800. The surface hardness after increasing the lapping depth of the specimen was slowly increased. It was found that after 3rd lapping process the hardness was reached the hardness of original base material. It was found that the small amount of coating components within 3% was remained after the 1st lapping process, compared to that approximately 16% after WEDM process.

  • This paper discusses the influencing factors such as coring position, height to diameter ratio of core specimen(h/d) and coring torque on the strength estimation of concrete by small site coring method in order to verify the validities of small size core method. According to results, as for the influence of drilling position, when core specimens are obtained from the place parallel to placing direction, compressive strength of core specimens are higher than those perpendicular to placing direction. This is due to the loss of the area of core specimen perpendicular to plating direction by bleeding. And in case of $\phi$ 24mm core specimen, when vertical drilling against placing direction is taken. compressive strength of core specimen obtained at the bottom of the structure is higher than that at the top of the structure. As for the influence of height to depth ratio, as h/d ratio increases compressive strength shows to be decreased. As for the influences of rotation speed of drilling machine, as its speed goes up, compressive strength decreases, regardless of core diameter.

  • TEM is a powerful tool for semiconductor material analyses in structure or biological sample in micro structure. TEM observation need to make to coincide specimens for special purpose. in this paper, we have experimented for minimum surface damage on bulk wafer and patterned specimen by various conditions such as accelerating energy, depth of ion beam, ion milling types, and etc. in various specimen preparation methods by FIB (Focus Ion Beam). The optimal qualified specimens are contain low mounts of surface damage(about 5 nm) on patterned specimen.

  • In evaluating the ultimate strength of a section for a concrete flexural member, the effect of member length is not usually considered, even though the strength tends to decrease with increase of member length. In this paper the influence of specimen length on flexural compressive strength of concrete was evaluated. For this purpose, a series of C-shaped specimens subjected to axial compression and bending moment were tested using four different length-to-depth ratios(from 1, 2, 3 and 4) of specimens with compressive strength of 58 MPa. Results indicate that the reduction in flexural compressive strength with increase of length-to-width ratios was apparent. A model equation was derived using regression analyses on the experimental data. It was also founded that the effect of specimen length on ultimate strain was negligible, but its effect of the ultimate load and the displacement at center of specimen was distinct. Finally more general model equation is also suggested.

  • The purpose of this paper is to study the effect of longitudinal reinforcement for anchoring in the wide beam column joint as wall as the contribution of depth of spandrel beam to hysteretic behavior of the wide beam column joint. From the test it was shown that the specimen with anchorage in the joint had higher strength than the specimen with normal hook anchorage. Specimen with debonded reinforcement at out of Id from column face failed showing moved plastic hinge and less strength than normal specimen. However, the dissipated energy was increased $11\%$.

  • Dipole model based analytical expression is proposed to estimate the length and depth of the rectangular defect on ferromagnetic pipe. Among the three leakage profiles of Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL), radial and axial leakage profiles are considered in this work. Permeability variation of the specimen is ignored by considering the flux density as close to saturation level of the inspected specimen. Comparing the profile of both the components, radial leakage profile furnishes the better estimation of defect parameter. This is evident from the results of error percentage of length and depth of the defect. Normalized pattern of the proposed analytical model radial leakage profile is good agreement with the experimentally obtained profile support the performance of proposed expression.
