  • Experimental investigation was conducted to study the effects of pitch angle maximum camber on the performance and noise of an axial-flow fan used in outdoor-unit of air -conditioner. For this study the axial-flow fan whose pitch angle can be varied was made and the Specific sound Pressure Level and other coefficients were measured using the anechoic fan tester. It is found that pitch angle affects more severly than the maximum camber on the fan performance. On the while the maximum camber affects much on the specific sound power level. Present results show that it is important to choose the optimum pitch angle and maximum camber to design the high-performance and low-noise axial-flow fan and specific noise measured in the anechoic fan tester can be sued effectively for the design of low-noise fan.

  • This paper introduces an edge AI-based scene-specific object detection system for long-term traffic management, focusing on analyzing congestion and movement via cameras. It aims to balance fast processing and accuracy in traffic flow data analysis using edge computing. We adapt the YOLOv5 model, with four heads, to a scene-specific model that utilizes the fixed camera's scene-specific properties. This model selectively detects objects based on scale by blocking nodes, ensuring only objects of certain sizes are identified. A decision module then selects the most suitable object detector for each scene, enhancing inference speed without significant accuracy loss, as demonstrated in our experiments.

  • This study discusses the features of the lighting and ventilation regulations for residential buildings in Hong Kong. Given the compact built environment and public concerns about the environmental quality of housing, various lighting and ventilation regulations have been enacted in Hong Kong. The application of building regulations on the micro scale and incentive systems on the macro scale are present, and the governments' calls for more active participation of the private sector and use of the building environmental assessment tools were also noted. Unlike South Korea, however, Hong Kong was found to adopt more performance-based standards, consider the external factors of the lighting and ventilation conditions together with the indoor elements, and provide specific design guidelines. Notwithstanding the different climatic conditions and socio-political contexts of Hong Kong and South Korea, these findings provide some policy implications for the South Korean government in its efforts to achieve a healthy environment for high-rise, high-density housing. It is suggested that the South Korean government adopt more on-site measurement methods to reflect the environmental conditions accurately and broaden the scope and scale of the implementation of the lighting and ventilation regulations with more specific, practical planning and design guidelines.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a Cardiovascular Disease Resilience (CDR) scale to evaluate disease specific resilience for recovery. Methods: The study was conducted as follows: items generation, and test of validity and reliability. Items were developed via literature review, review of instruments, and data acquired from the interviews. In order to test validity and reliability, seven panels of experts reviewed the preliminary questionnaire and then data were collected from 550 cardiovascular disease patients. Factor analysis, Pearson correlation, ANOVA, and Cronbach's alpha were used to analyze the data. Results: In the preliminary stage, forty-four items were generated. A reduction to 40 items was accomplished through content validity analysis. Factor analysis extracted 7 factors with a total of 25 items. The CDR items were moderately correlated with the subscales of the CD-RISC (Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale) and the mean score of CDR was associated with quality of life measured with CD-QOL (Cardiovascular Disease Quality of Life). Cronbach's ${\alpha}$=.84. Conclusion: Content validity, construct validity, criterion validity, and reliability of the CDR were established. The CDR is a reliable and valid instrument which the resilience of cardiovascular disease specific recovery state can be evaluated.

  • A new radiation scale is proposed. With empathy toward the vast majority of people who are not well versed in radiation and related matters, and thus suffering from misunderstanding that breeds unnecessary fear of radiation, the aim of proposing a new radiation scale, radiation index (RAIN), is to put the general public at ease with the concept of radiation. RAIN is defined in dimensionless numbers that relate any specific radiation dose to a properly defined reference level. As RAIN is expressed in plain numbers without an attached scientific unit, the public will feel comfortable with its friendly look, which in turn should help them understand radiation dose levels easily and allay their anxieties about radiation. The expanded awareness and proper understanding of radiation will empower the public to feel that they are not hopeless victims of radiation. The correspondence between RAIN and the specific accumulated dose is established. The equivalence will allow RAIN to serve as a common language of communication for the general public with which they can converse with radiation experts to discuss matters related to radiation safety, radiation diagnosis and therapy, nuclear accidents, and other related matters. Such fruitful dialogues will ultimately enhance public acceptance of radiation and associated technologies.

  • Photosynthetic bacteria (PSB) attract considerable interest as useful microorganisms; nevertheless, a generalized culture technique has not been previously reported owing to difficulty in their cultivation. Therefore, a simple culture technique suitable for public use was investigated. Among the PSB tested, the strain Rhodobacter azotoformans EBN-7 was the most suitable for scale-up production because it showed the highest specific growth rate (0.20 h-1) on basal medium. In scale-up cultivation (500 L), R. azotoformans EBN-7 showed 4.50 × 1010 colony-forming units mL-1 (number of viable cells), dry cell weight of 26.8 g/L, and a specific growth rate of 0.15 h-1. Cultivation using this final culture broth (as seed culture) in a 15 L simple reactor was successful, with maintenance of cell activity evident. For use as seed culture, the maximum allowable preservation period of R. azotoformans EBN-7 at 4℃ was 3 months. When R. azotoformans EBN-7 cultivated in a simple technique was applied to shrimp aquaculture water, NH4+-N was reduced from 0.61 mg/L to 0.24 mg/L (by 60.7%) in 4 days in comparison with the control. Thus, this simple culture technique using R. azotoformans EBN-7 has the potential for a good removal efficiency of NH4+-N, making seed culture easier and suitable for public use.

  • Purpose: This study was done to identify factors influencing cell phone addiction in adolescents. Methods: The participants were 548 adolescents in two middle schools and four high schools. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires which were constructed to include a cell phone addiction scale, an impulsiveness scale, media specific factors, and cell phone use. The data were analyzed using the SPSS program. Results: Of the adolescents, 88.7% reported being average users, 8.4%, heavy users, and 2.9%, cell phone addicted. Cell phone addiction was significantly correlated with impulsiveness and media specific factors. Significant factors influencing cell phone addiction were gender, sending and receiving text messages on weekends, monthly call charges, impulsiveness, recreational reasons, and cultural reasons. Conclusion: The above findings indicate that cell phone addiction in adolescents is influenced by gender, text message use, call charges, impulsiveness and media specific factors. Therefore the development of prevention and management programs for cell phone addiction in adolescents should be based on these factors which influence cell phone addiction.

  • The purpose of this study is to derive the correlation between the Specific Phosphorus Release Rate (SPRR), Specific Phosphorus Uptake Rate (SPUR) and Specific Oxygen Uptake Rate (SOUR) at various Sludge Retention Time (SRT) condition in the A/O process. The laboratory scale reactor was operated on various SRT (10 day, 20 day, 30 day, 40 day). In this study, the SPRR, SPUR and SOUR tended to decrease with the SRT increase. Empirical equations was be obtained $y=4.54E-006x^2+0.0007x-0.0315$, $R^2=0.925$ (SOUR vs. SPRR) and $y=3.22E-006x^2+0.0004x-0.0173$, $R^2=0.928$ (SOUR vs. SPUR) from the relationship between SRT, SPRR and SPUR and SOUR. Therefore, the anaerobic tank design based on the research result such as SPRR, SPUR of a phosphorus design and SOUR would be possible.

  • Recently, according to the trend of small size in scale and high speed in rotation of turbomachinery, very low specific speed centrifugal pump is taking a growing interest because the pump is characterized by high head and low flow rate with convenience of manufacturing and maintenance compared with conventional positive displacement pump. However, the efficiency of the very low specific speed centrifugal pump drops rapidly with the decrease of specific speed. The purpose of this study is nor only to examine the influence of casing type on the performance of centrifugal pump in the range of very low specific speed but also to determine the proper casing type for the improvement of pump performance. The results show that circular casing is suitable for the centrifugal pump in the range of very low specific speed and the influence of impeller configuration on the pump performance is very small. Radial thrust in the circular and volute casings is considerably small in the range of very low specific speed.
