  • Compressive sensing (CS) has to face with two challenges of computational complexity reconstruction and low coding efficiency. As a solution, this paper presents a novel spatially scalable Kronecker two layer compressive sensing framework which facilitates reconstruction up to three spatial resolutions as well as much improved CS coding performance. We propose a dual-resolution sensing matrix based on the quincunx sampling grid which is applied to the base layer. This sensing matrix can provide a fast-preview of low resolution image at encoder side which is utilized for predictive coding. The enhancement layer is encoded as the residual measurement between the acquired measurement and predicted measurement data. The low resolution reconstruction is obtained from the base layer only while the high resolution image is jointly reconstructed using both two layers. Experimental results validate that the proposed scheme outperforms both conventional single layer and previous multi-resolution schemes especially at high bitrate like 2.0 bpp by 5.75dB and 5.05dB PSNR gain on average, respectively.

  • In this paper, we propose an advanced Ka-band satellite HD broadcasting system using scalable video coding technology. As already known, it is not so easy to achieve reasonable link availability on Ka-band because of the rain-attenuation effect, and in case of HD broadcasting service it's more difficult. To overcome that problem, we propose an hierarchical broadcasting system based on H.264 SVC technology. In this paper, we suggest a few types of system scenario to realize the concept. Those scenarios are including DVB-S and DVB-S2 and spatially scalable video stream is the source stream in all cases.

  • In this paper, we propose a new 3D video coding method for heterogeneous display systems and network infrastructure over enhanced Access Grid (e-AG) using spatio-temporal scalability defined in MPEG-2. The proposed encoder produces several bit-streams for providing temporally and spatially scalable 3D video service. The generated bit-streams can be nelivered with proper spatio-temporal resolution according to network bandwidths and processing speeds, visualization capabilities of client systems. The functionality of proposed spatio-temporal scalability can be exploited for construction of highly scalable 3D video service in heterogeneous distributed environments.

  • In this paper, we propose a new stereoscopic video coding approach for heterogeneous consumer devices by exploiting the concept of spatio-temporal scalability. The proposed method uses MPEG-2 standard for coding the left or main sequence and an enhanced compatible coding scheme for predicting the P- and B-type of frames of the right or auxiliary sequence. The enhanced compatible coding scheme predicts matching block by interpolating both two forward and backward motion predicted macroblocks and disparity predicted macroblock. To provide flexible stereo video service, we define both a temporally scalable layer and a spatially scalable layer for each eye-view. The experimental results show the efficiency of proposed coding scheme by comparison with already known methods and the advantages of disparity estimation in terms of scalability overhead. According to the experimental results, we expect the proposed functionalities will play a key role in establishing highly flexible stereo video service for ubiquitous computing environment where devices and network connections are heterogeneous.

The proposed designed for providing flexible video among various displays, such ass control center, station employees and train driver. We uses MPEG-2 standard for coding the left-view sequence and IBMDC coding scheme predicts matching block by interpolating both motion and disparity predicted macroblocks. To provide efficient stereoscopic video service, we define both temporally and spatially scalable layers for each eye's-view by using the concept of Spatio-Temporal scalability. The experimental results show the efficiency of proposed coding scheme by comparison with already known methods and the advantages of disparity estimation in terms of scalability overhead.   • In this paper, we introduce a reliable, scalable, and cost-effective switchless wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) network based on a quality-of-service supporting reservation-based medium access control (MAC) protocol. The protocol not only provides both packet and circuit switching but also supports multicasting. The network efficiency is significantly increased by spatially reusing wavelengths and exploiting multiple free spectral ranges (FSRs) of arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) employed in the architecture. We have demonstrated the feasibility of this architecture by simulating in $Optsim^{TM}$.

  • In this paper, we analyze the performance of a reliable, scalable, and cost-effective switchless wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) network based on an arrayed waveguide grating (AWG). The network efficiency is significantly increased by spatially reusing wavelengths and exploiting multiple free spectral ranges (FSRs) of the AWG employed in the architecture. We have analyzed the performance of this architecture by simulating in $Optsim^{TM}$ with a control channel which exploits the broadband light source, i.e., an LED. The data was successfully transmitted to a distance of 30 km without using any EDFA's in the network, with a reasonable BER of $4.0530{\times}10^{-14}$.   • Passenger safety is a primary concern of railway system but, it has been urgent issue that dozens of people are killed every year when they falloff from train platforms. Recently, advancements in IT have enabled applying vision sensors to railway environments, such as CCTV and stereo camera sensors. In this paper, we propose a stereoscopic video coding scheme for subway accident monitoring system.
