  • The objective of the paper is to recommend a database format of geographic informa¬tion systems for transportation (GIS-T) based on a review of geographic data files (GDF), a European standard format for navigation and the topologically integrated geographic encoding and referenc¬ing files (TIGER) if the USA The establishment of the standard format for transportation database is important for sharing data since data collection is costly. We believe the recommended format would reduce the implementation costs for GIS-T in Korea in the future.

  • This paper proposes structural analysis on the World Wide Web to form a part of the architectural design project. It purposes modeling space frames and a structural analysis program on the internet only by inputting basic data for forming a shape in the whole phase of space frame analysis. The analysis data is conducted by Oracle DBMS(DataBase Management System), GUI(Graphic User Internet) by Java Applet and connection with server and database by Java Servlet respectively. The result from modeling and analysis is provided as graphic and text file forms by web browsers. Programs can be executed irrespective of user's OS by using internet and highly-secured system is constructed taking advantage of Java. Of great efficiency is maintaining and recycling data as the whole is dealt by database from the beginning to the end of program.

  • Soil organic matter (SOM) content and other physical soil properties were extracted from a digital soil database, the Soil Survey Geographic (SSURGO) database, to map the amount of SOM and determine its relationship with topographic positions in floodplain areas along a river basin in Douglas County, Kansas. In the floodplains, results showed that slope and SOM content had a significant negative relationship. Soils near river channels were deep and nearly level, and they had the greatest SOM content in the floodplain areas. For the whole county, SOM content was influenced primarily by soil depth and percent SOM by weight. Among different slope areas, soils on mid-range slopes (10-15%) and ridgetops had the highest SOM content because they had relatively high percent SOM content by weight and very deep soils, respectively. SOM content was also significantly variable among different land cover types. Forest/woodland had significantly higher SOM content than others, followed by cropland, grassland, and urban areas.

  • Some previous works for nearest neighbor (NN) query processing technique can treat a case that query/data are both moving objects. However, they cannot find exact result owing to vagueness of criterion. In order to escape their limitations and get exact result, we propose new NN query techniques, exact CTNN (continuous trajectory NN) query, approximate CTNN query, and dynamic CTNN query. These are all superior to pervious works, by reducing of number of calculation, considering of trajectory information, and using of continuous query concept. Using these techniques, we can solve any situations and types of NN query in location-aware environment.

  • The aim of this study is to evaluate the hazard of landslides at Penang, Malaysia, using a Geographic Information System (GIS) and remote sensing. Landslide locations were identified in the study area from interpretation of aerial photographs and field surveys. The topographic and geologic data and satellite image were collected, processed and constructed into a spatial database using GIS and image processing. The used factors that influence landslide occurrence are topographic slope, topographic aspect topographic curv ature and distance from drainage from topographic database, geology and distance from lineament from the geologic database, land use from TM satellite image and vegetation index value from SPOT satellite image. Landslide hazardous area were analysed and mapped using the landslide-occurrence factors by probability - likelihood ratio - method. The results of the analysis were verified using the landslide location data. The validation results showed satisfactory agreement between the hazard map and the existing data on landslide location.

  • Generally, feature of real world as 2-dimensional information of point, line and polygon achieve a GIS function from 2-dimensional GIS. But at enduring the geography elements which exist when it is composed of 3-dimensional spatial information it is abstracted with 2-dimensional which will reach, the loss of many information and 2-dimensional GIS of existing the basic limit exists md, Accordingly, 3-dimensional geography elements of the real world even at the computer controlling with 3-dimensional geography element original it will be able to minimize the loss of information which it keeps, for 3-dimensional expression and the analysis against the natural facility and the artificial facility of the real world it is the actual condition whose 3-dimensional GIS of ultimate form are necessary. This study was 2-dimensional feature a point the line and polygon and 3-dimensional spatial data information as the method for to use the VRML(Virtual Reality Modeling Language), 3-dimensional virtual worlds for 3-dimensional GIS applications to create and hereafter various decision making of at connection web more efficient and the possibility of doing in vision in order to be, it drew up a spatial database.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the spatial relationship between the landslides occurred by typhoon, Rusa in 2002 and geospatial dataset. Landslide locations were detected using satellite image and field survey. Topogra-phy, soil, forest, geology and land use data sets were constructed as a spatial database in GIS. From the database, slope, aspect, curvature, water system, type of topography, texture, material, drainage, effective thickness of soil, type, age, diameter, density of wood, lithology, lineament of geology, land use and lineament were used as the land-slide occurrence factors. Using a frequence ratio model, the spatial relationships between the landslides and the factors were extracted. The spatial relationships is helpful to explain the characteristics of the landslide, and to make landslide susceptibility map.

  • This paper discusses on the update problem of multi-scale databases when the multi-scale databases, which is several spatial databases covering the same geographic area with different scales, are derived from an original one. Although the integrity between original and derived multi-scale databases should be maintained, most of update mechanisms do not 6respect it since the update mechanisms have assumed that the update of source objects propagates to objects directly derived from the source. In order to maintain the integrity of multi-scale databases during updates, we must propagate updates of sources to objects derived from both the updated source objects and other related objects. It is an important functional requirement of multi-scale database systems, which has not been supported by existing spatial database systems. In this paper, we propose a set of rules and algorithms for the update propagation and show a prototype developed on ArcGIS of ESRI. Our update mechanism provides with not only the consistency between multi-scale databases but also incremental updates.

  • Recently central and local governments developed a huge spatial database and system using full-scale Geographic Information System (GIS). But Inconsistent spatial data through duplicated database management drops off in efficiency and confidence of administration. It is difficult to share data because of their unique system and data type. Under these circumstances Ministry of Construction and Transportation (MOCT) has been carrying out Land Management Information System (LMIS) to computerize land administration and policy affairs and to implement land database such as law, spatial, attribute data. A prerequisite mission of LMIS is to develop open system for solving the problem of duplicated data management and data sharing and for supporting various computer environments such as hardware, software, network etc. The purpose of LMIS is to reuse the existing investment resources and to expand the existing system resources. Therefore the purpose of this study is to investigate a method of LMIS operation under the existing circumstances and expansion of the system in the future. To do this, Supporting various DBMS, GIS server, Distributing Computing Platform(Unix, NT Server) is needed. Especially LMIS need to be developed as open system with interoperability to get independence of application from various GIS servers.

  • The growth of multimedia technology forces the development of video detection for large database management and illegal copy detection. To meet this demand, this paper proposes a fast video detection method to apply to a large database. The fast video detection algorithm uses spatial features using the gray value distribution from frames and temporal features using the temporal similarity map. We form the video signature using the extracted spatial feature and temporal feature, and carry out a stepwise matching method. The performance was evaluated by accuracy, extraction and matching time, and signature size using the original videos and their modified versions such as brightness change, lossy compression, text/logo overlay. We show empirical parameter selection and the experimental results for the simple matching method using only spatial feature and compare the results with existing algorithms. According to the experimental results, the proposed method has good performance in accuracy, processing time, and signature size. Therefore, the proposed fast detection algorithm is suitable for video detection with the large database.
