  • To compare the physical quantity of students circulation along the moving path during recess of a variation type operation middle school, five points were actually observed. The flow coefficient for these points was calculated, and the change in flow coefficient was verified and tracked over time. During the operation of the classroom, the characteristics of crowdedness and congestion time depending on the physical conditions of the frequently moved paths were shown. Even in the same corridor, the difference between the flow coefficient and the congestion time of the corridor facing the open space and the blocked space was noticeably different. As a result, detailed factors such as free walking speed, the degree of freedom of passing and the possibility of collision were also identified. This means that detailed countermeasures for the student's path should be considered first when planning the moving space of a variation type school, and identifying the characteristics of these factors could be used as useful basic materials for developing various models of classroom space.

  • The limitation of flow control for a bistable fluidic valve has been investigated. The physical model of the fluidic valve includes two main flow outlets and two control flow inlets. The experiments were conducted with pressure regulators, mass flow meters, and piezo sensors to analyze flow switching characteristics of the fluidic valve. The experimental data such as pressure and mass flow rate of control flows and the switching time of the main flow was obtained with various operating conditions. The operation limit of the fluidic valve is identified, and a model equation for pre-estimating the minimum control pressure to switch the direction of the main flow has been proposed.

  • Three-dimensional compressible turbulent flow fields within the passage of a diffusing S-duct have been simulated by solving the Navier-Stokes equations with SIMPLE scheme. The average inlet Mach number is 0.6 and the Reynolds number based on the inlet diameter is $1.76{\times}10^6$ The extended $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model is applied to modeling the Reynolds stresses. Computed results of the flow in a circular diffusing S-duct provide an understanding of the flow structure within a typical engine inlet system. These are compared with experimental wall static-pressure, total-pressure fields, and secondary velocity profiles. Additionally, boundary layer thickness, skin friction values, and streamlines in the symmetric plane are presented. The computed results depict the interaction between the low energy flow by the flow separation and the high energy flow by the reversed duct curvature. The computed results obtained using the extended $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model.

  • The characteristics of the flowfields around two circular cylinders in various arrangements were investigated by PIV. In tandem arrangement, the Strouhal numbers measured in the rear region of the cylinder of wake side were decreased with the space ratios, the flow between two cylinders was almost stagnated and the closer to upstream cylinder, the larger the width of the stagnated region was. The direction of vortex between two cylinders was opposed each other with the small difference(${\alpha}$=${\pm}1.0^{\circ}$) of the attack angle . In side by side arrangement, the flow velocity between two circular cylinders were increased with the space ratios.

  • In the present study, to investigate flows around space launch vehicles at mid-high altitudes efficiently, a three-dimensional unstructured mesh Navier-Stokes solver employing a Maxwell slip boundary condition was developed. Validation of the present flow solver was made for a blunted cone-tip configuration by comparing the results with those of the DSMC simulation and experiment. It was found that the present flow solver works well by capturing the velocity slip and the temperature jump on the solid surface more efficiently than the DSMC simulation. Flow simulations of space launch vehicles were conducted by using the flow solver. Mach number of 6 at the mid-high altitude around 86km was considered, and the flow phenomena at the mid-high altitude was discussed.

  • This paper provides insights into the sFlow monitoring system of OF@KREONET. OF@KREONET is software defined network (SDN) testbed adapted by KREONET (Korea Research Environment Open NETwork). OF@KREONET uses SDN-based network virtualization to slice the network among multiple concurrent experimenter. Flow Monitoring of OF@KREONET using sFlow. sFlow and OpenFlow can be used to provide an integrated flow monitoring system where OpenFlow controller can be used to define flows to be monitored by sFlow. OF@KREONET flow monitoring system supports monitoring of per slice FlowSpace. An Experimental can monitor his/her own FlowSpace while network administrator can monitor all spaces.

  • An irregular cell-based numerical model was developed to analyze underground space flooding. In this model, the flow characteristics in underground space were computed by link-node system. Also, the model can simulate the underground flood flow related to the influence of stairs and wall-structures. Empirical discharge formula were introduced to analyze weir-type flow for shopping mall, and channel-type flow for subway railroad respectively. The simulated results matched in reasonable range compared with the observed depth. The dual-drainage inundation analysis model and the underground space flood analysis model were integrated using visual basic application of ArcGIS system. The developed model can help the decision support system of flood control authority for redesigning and constructing flood prevention structures and making the potential inundation zone, and establishing flood-mitigation measures.

  • The flow around a rotating circular cylinder near a plane wall is investigated by the measurement of the lift acting on the cylinder and by the flow visualization using the hydrogen bubble technique in the circulating water tank. The experimental parameters are the rotating direction of the cylinder. the space ratios $H/D(H/D=0.05{\sim}0.5)$ between cylinder and plane wall and the velocity ratios ${\alpha}({\alpha}=0{\sim}{\pm}2.0)$. In the case of clockwise, the lift on the rotating circular cylinder was increased with the reduction of the space ratios and with the velocity ratios, the upper separation point was more shifted in the rotating direction with them. In the case of anticlockwise, the absolute value of the lift on the rotating circular cylinder was increased with increasing the space ratios and the velocity ratios. the lower separation point was more shifted in the rotating direction with them.

  • Debris flows associated with landslides occur as one of the most devastating natural disasters that threat Taiwan. Typically, three essential factors are needed simultaneously to trigger debris flow, namely sufficient soils and rocks, favorable slope, and abundant water. Among the three essentials, the slope is natural and static without external forcing, while the landslide is generally induced by earthquake or rainfall events, and the water is produced by heavy rainfall events. In this study, we analyzed the landslides triggered by the typhoons Herb (1996) and typhoon Troaji (2001). It is concluded that the statistical data are useful to quantify the threshold of the potential landslide area. Then, the possibility to prevent the debris flow occurrence may be increased.

  • This paper discusses dynamic characteristics of a urea-SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system. The urea flow rate to improve NOx conversion efficiency is generally determined by parameters such as catalyst temperature and space velocity. The urea-SCR system was tested in the various engine operating conditions governing the raw NOx emission levels, space velocity. and SCR catalyst temperature. These experiments include cold-transients to determine catalyst light-off temperature and urea flow rate transients. Likewise. ammonia storage dynamics was also investigated. The cold-transient results indicate the light-off temperature of the catalysts used in these experiments was $200-220^{\circ}C$. The ammonia storage and urea flow rate transients all indicate very slow dynamics (on the order of seconds) which presents control challenges for mobile applications. The results presented in this paper should provide an excellent starting point in developing a functional in-vehicle urea-SCR system.
