Since the 1980s, the western welfare states have experienced a wide spectrum of socio-economic changes; changes in population composition, the economic globalization, the post-industrialization, an increasing flexibility in the labor market. etc. This study examines the trend of poverty in welfare states, and analyzes how those socio-economic changes are related to it. For these purposes, this study first calculates the poverty indices for several years in 10 welfare states using the Luxembourg Income Study database, and then decomposes the index by subpopulation and income sources. Major findings of this study can be summarized as follows. First of all, the welfare state in general has experienced an increasing trend in the degree of poverty since the 1980s. In particular, poverty has greatly intensified in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. Many other welfare states including Canada, Germany, Sweden, and Norway have also experienced substantial increases in poverty. The increasing trend of poverty is not wholly due to changes in population composition such as increases in the aging population and one-parent(mother) families. Contrary to the traditional belief, these population groups are not as much poor as the working-age population. In particular, the degree of poverty in the elderly is less severe than in the working-age group. Furthermore, since the 1980s the market income poverty in the aging population has shown a decreasing trend in many welfare states. The degree and trend of poverty in one-parent families vary greatly across countries, owing to the labor market and income transfer policies. The most important reason for the increasing poverty trend in the welfare state is that the degree of poverty has been deepening in the working-age population. Especially, the market income poverty of the working-age population has considerably increased in every country except the Netherlands. Structural changes in the economy and the labor market may drive the increasing trend of poverty. Further studies and deliberate anti-poverty policies are needed to tackle the factors relating to the increase in the market income poverty.
The pollution in the coastal sea is being aggravated because of frequent happening of red tide and oil leakage from tankers. The Exclusive Economic Zone is being drawn in the seas surrounding Korean Peninsula. Therefore, the fisheries in Korea is under a great change in their production base. On the other hand, the fisheries have been considered as a part of agriculture in policy making and financial support. The thesis compares agriculture with fisheries in the fund demands and financial supports. It tries to find a way in the efficient allocation of fund for the two industries. The fund demand of a typical fishing household is greater than that of a typical farm household. The fund used by a fishery household is more dependent on debt than that of a farm household. Therefore, the internal financing ability of a fishery household is weaker than that of a farm household. The repaying ability of a fishery household is weaker than that of a farm household because a fishery household's income is less than a farm household's. When we analyze the uses of fund, the fishing industry has some disadvantage in fund uses. The financial support for the fisheries' structural change is weaker than that for agriculture. The fishing industry has some disadvantage in the investment and subsidy rates. Also, the loan period for fisheries is shorter on average than that for agriculture. When we analyze the sources of the fund, the fisheries' banking sources are greater than the government's sources, which is relatively stable. Therefore, the fisheries will be more heavily affected by the liberalization of banking industry and system than the agriculture will. The government needs to change the shortcomings in the sources and uses of fund. First, it needs to use the fund, considering the characteristics of the industry and producers' financing ability. Second, it needs to adjust the sources of fund to the liberalization of financial system.
Purpose: To know the existence of tax services, it is seen as a redistribution of income to ensure the implementation of national development and social welfare carried out by the state to the community and determine the effect of the quality of tax services, tax audits and tax collection against either simultaneously or partially against the tax ratio in the area of the Primary Tax Service Office of West Makassar. Research Design Data and Methodology: The tax revenue rate is too low based on the Revenue Statistics in Asian and Pacific report, released by the OECD at the end of July 2017. Tax revenue growth is also difficult to increase because of typical inelastic tax revenues. Consequently, tax growth cannot exceed GDP growth. The government boosted the tax ratio by minimizing tax payment irregularities and optimizing tax data utilization as well as distribution income for national social welfare. Transforming all sectors in the real economy so that it is affordable to tax, diversification of taxation is directed towards new sources of economic growth. The data analysis method used is multiple linear regression. Results: The results showed that the quality of tax services and tax audits were dominant in determining tax ratios, whereas Tax collection offers a significant but lower value.Conclusion: The existence of tax services, it is seen as a redistribution of income to ensure the implementation of national development and social welfare carried out by the state to the community.Quality and service in taxation services to create and maintain trust and cooperation relationships between tax officials and taxpayers.
In this survey, we investigated the way of thinking about meal management of housewives including the sincerity to meal preparation, the eating practices and cronic degenerative diseases related dietary behaviors, and studied the effects of above factors on the real food intakes. We also investigated the trends of health-foods and nutrient supplements usage. The results obtained from 506 housewives in Seoul were summarized as follows. Although our subjects prepared their meals habitually without special concern, they did not prefer the use of convenient foods. The food prefrence of housewivess who had more child and refered higher life status was similar with other family members. The dietary attitudes were good in large family, the higher income and the more child group. The highly educated group skipped breakfast more frequently. The mealmanagers with better education career and good living status considered for the restriction of salty foods, sweet foods, animal fats and pungent foods, and for the nutritionally balanced diet. The high income group showed great concerns about weight gain at meal times. The nutritional qualities expressed by the frequency of food group intakes were high in the better educated and living status groups, and their eating frequencies of animal protein foods and calcium sources were significantly high. Mealmanagers who had no job intaked vegetable oils through frying foods frequently. The use of health-foods and nutrient supplements was influenced by age, educational and economic level and self-estimated living status, but the trends in prevalence of both were not consistent. Health-foods were prefered by the groups of high educational career, affluent income and advanced living status, and low educational career, low income and low living status groups favored the nutrient supplements. The restrictive intake of animal fat and the use of health-food were positively correlated, which seemed that the subjects used health-foods as supplements in compensation for nutritional unbalance caused by the avoidance of animal protein foods.
The aim of this study was to assist the development of parenting-aid policies by analyzing information from life perspectives, family system theory, and integrated family policy perspectives. For this purpose, we conducted a literature using a variety of sources including internet sites, laws, published material related to current parenting-aid policies. Based on analyses we formulated four agendas: empowering parent competency, supporting diverse family parenting, guaranteeing parent's rights, and supporting parenting of dual-income families parenting. The results were as follow: Firstly, for empowering parent competency, we proposed the development of family relationship empowerment programs including family life cycle and children-raising support services. Secondly, for diverse family parenting, we proposed access to integrated parenting-aid programs dependent on family types. Thirdly, for guaranteeing parent’s rights, we proposed the supporting of child raising costs and tax returns to families with children, and provide child allowances. Finally, for dual-income family parenting, we proposed that schools and communities must recognize that dual-income families are a universal family type, establish family friendly business culture, and to develop a more democratic domestic family-relationship. This policy proposed a new paradigm where parents must be recognized as partners and stakeholder in development of family related policies. Ultimately, such policies will contribute to increased birth rate and development of a more respectful society.
Unmet healthcare needs do not end with the phenomenon itself, but lead to possibilities of increased severity of illness. Missed opportunities for treatment at the right timing increase possibilities of complications, and affect prognosis of disease. To examine current status and trends of unmet needs in Korea, we used data from four sources: the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHNES, '2007-2016); the Community Health Survey (CHS '2008-2016); the Korea Health Panel Survey (KHP '2011-2014); and the Korean Welfare Panel Study (KOWEPS '2006-2016). The proportion of individual reporting unmet healthcare needs as of 2016 was 8.8% (KNHNES), 11.5% (CHS), and 12.8% (KHP, as of 2014). Annual percentage change which characterizes trend for the follow-up period was -9.9%, -3.1%, and -1.3%, respectively. The proportion of individuals reporting unmet healthcare needs due to cost was 1.8% (KNHNES), 1.5% (CHS), and 3.0% (KHP). The proportion of households reporting unmet healthcare needs due to cost was 1.0% (KOWEPS). Annual percentage change was -10.0%, -15.2%, -5.4%, and -17.5%, respectively. Low income populations had more unmet healthcare needs than high income populations. Therefore, in order to improve unmet healthcare needs, it is necessary to focus on low income populations.
The objective of this study is to collect basic data which can lead effective direction in performing nutritional education, by investigating 273 homemakers' knowledge and attitudes about nutrition. This study was performed using questionnaire about the knowledge and the attitudes of nutrition according to the age, education level, occupation, food cost, and total income. Results were summarized as follows; 1) sources in the knowledge of nutrition appeared by order of T.V., cookbooks, magazines newspapers, mothers, friends, lecturers in cooking school, and nutritionist. 2) A level in the knowledge of nutrition which scord an average marks 154.7(the highest marks 210) was higher compared to other studies. Informations about food composition scord lower marks than other studies. 3) Attitudes about nutrition showed high score in the aspects that nutrition has an important role in health, and desirable eating habits were formed in childhood. 4) The knowledge of nutrition had no significant differences with age, occupation, and food cost whereas it had significant correlation with education level and total income. The higher the level in education and total income, the higher the level in the knowledge of nutrition. 5) The attitudes about nutrition had no correlation with age, occupation, but it had a significant correlation with education level, food cost and total income. 6) There was an significant correlation between the knowledge and attitudes about nutrition. In order to promote children's nutrition status, nutrition education for mothers must be accomplished in the first place. Development of T.V. program for children's nutrition education is desirable.
Background: The growing prevalence of overweight and/or obese children is an important public health problem in both developed and developing countries. Although the association of obesity between parents and their children is well known, its underlying mechanisms are not well established. Purpose: This meta-analysis examined parent-child (PC) relationships in obesity and identified factors such as world region and country income level that may influence this relationship. Methods: We identified all related studies published between January 1, 2015 and May 31, 2020 by conducting a literature search using the MeSH terms "obesity," "overweight," "body mass index," "parent," "child," "associate," and "relate" in the PubMed database in English. Results: The meta-analysis of 23 studies that reported an odds ratio (OR) for parent and child obesity associations found a significant association between parents and children who were overweight or obese (pooled OR, 1.97; 95% confidence interval, 1.85-2.10). A meta-regression analysis was used to examine the sources of interstudy heterogeneity. The association between parent and child obesity was higher in Asia than in Europe and the Middle East and higher in high-income countries than in middle-or low-income countries. In addition, a higher association between parent and child obesity was found when both parents were obese than when only the father or mother was obese. This study from multiple countries indicates a significant PC relationship in weight status that varies according to PC pair type, parent and child weight statuses, world region, and country income level. Conclusion: These results demonstrate that the risk of childhood obesity is greatly influenced by parental weight status and indicate that parents could play an important role in preventing child obesity.

Planting intercropping in rubber plantations is another alternative for generating more income for farmers. However, farmers still lack the knowledge of choosing plants. In addition, information for decision making comes from many sources and is knowledge accumulated by the expert. Therefore, this research aims to create a decision support system for growing rubber trees for individual farmers. It aims to get the highest income and the lowest cost by using semantic web technology so that farmers can access knowledge at all times and reduce the risk of growing crops, and also support the decision supporting system (DSS) to be more intelligent. The integrated intercropping ontology and rule are a part of the decision-making process for selecting plants that is suitable for individual rubber plots. A list of suitable plants is important for decision variables in the allocation of planting areas for each type of plant for multiple purposes. This article presents designing and developing the intercropping ontology for DSS which defines a class based on the principle of intercropping in rubber plantations. It is grouped according to the characteristics and condition of the area of the farmer as a concept of the rubber plantation. It consists of the age of rubber tree, spacing between rows of rubber trees, and water sources for use in agriculture and soil group, including slope, drainage, depth of soil, etc. The use of ontology for recommended plants suitable for individual farmers makes a contribution to the knowledge management field. Besides being useful in DSS by offering options with accuracy, it also reduces the complexity of the problem by reducing decision variables and condition variables in the multi-objective optimization model of DSS.
The demand for electricity has a considerable impact on various energy sectors since electricity is generated from various energy sources. This paper attempts to estimate the electricity demand function and obtain some quantitative information on price and income elasticities of the demand. To this end, we apply a lagged dependent variable model to derive long-run as well as short-run elasticities using the time-series data over the period 1991-2014. Our dependent variable is annual electricity demand. The independent variables include constant term, real price of electricity, and real gross domestic product. The results show that the short-run price and income elasticities of the electricity demand are estimated to be -0.142 and 0.866, respectively. They are statistically significant at the 5% level. That is, the electricity demand is in-elastic with respect to price and income changes in the short-run. The long-run price and income elasticities of the electricity demand are calculated to be -0.210 and 1.287, respectively, which are also statistically meaningful at the 5% level. The electricity demand is still in-elastic with regard to price change in the long-run. However, the electricity demand is elastic regarding income change in the long-run. Therefore, this indicates that the effect of demand-side management policy through price-control is restrictive in both the short- and long-run. The growth in electricity demand following income growth is expected to be more remarkable in the long-run than in the short-run.
