The whistle is a very important information source for the safety navigation under foggy weather. But navigator has no concern about this, because it must be achived by human hearing sense and considered as a vague signal. If the range and relative bearing of signal source can be detected automatically, it would be very useful system for preventing marine casualties making a lot of economic loss and environment pollution. Before the algorithm of 2-dimensional sound source tracking system was reported. This paper describes the method that can obtain the time lag between three signals and the theory of cross-correlation analysis and subtraction method for cauculating the time lag by using the digital signal data sequences. And a series of experiments were carried out for various position of sound source in the range from 200cm to 530cm. As a result, we have recognized that sound source tracking system is possible to the sea field with improvement of position error.

This study was carried out to evaluate the applicability of the odor source tracking using wind field and fingerprint as a solution tool. First of all, CALMET and HYSPLIT modeling system, and database of odor discharge companies were utilized to track odor from industrial complexes. Secondly, industrial odor fingerprint was made by listing on the 19 domestic industries, and compared with foreign data to assess the representative, and thus the similarity was 86.7%. On the modeling experiment, Sihwa industrial complex did not show any difference because the matching rates of day and night were 49.5% and 50.0%, respectively. However, the Banwol and Sihwa industrial complexes did show some differences due to odor facility density. Separately, in this study, odor samples were obtained from 10 odor discharging companies, located in the Sihwa and Banwol industrial complexes, They were compared with the results of odor tracking modeling. The matched companies were 4 of 10 by three cases of tracking, while the fingerprint and industry of odor monitoring networks and companies matched each other. Therefore, this study confirmed the approach applicability of source tracking system using the fingerprint.

Most of life thing including human being have tendency of reaction with inherently their own pattern against environmental change caused by such as light, sound, smell etc. Especially, a sense of direction often works as a very important factor in such reaction. Actually, human or animal lift that can react instantly to a stimulus determine their action with a sense of direction to a stimulant. In this paper, we try to propose how to give a sense of direction to a robot using sound being representative stimulant, and tracking sensors being able to detect the direction of such sound source. We also try to propose how to determine the relative directions among devices or robots using the digital compass and the RSSI on wireless network.
In order to reduce the threat by illegal unmanned aerial vehicles, a tracking system based on sound was implemented. There are three main points to the drone acoustic tracking method. First, it scans the space through variable beam formation to find a sound source and records the sound using a microphone array. Second, it classifies it into a hidden Markov model (HMM) to find out whether the sound source exists or not, and finally, the sound source is In the case of a drone, a sound source recorded and stored as a tracking reference signal based on an adaptive beam pattern is used. The simulation was performed in both the ideal condition without background noise and interference sound and the non-ideal condition with background noise and interference sound, and evaluated the tracking performance of illegal drones. The drone tracking system designed the criteria for determining the presence or absence of a drone according to the improvement of the search distance performance according to the microphone array performance and the degree of sound pattern matching, and reflected in the design of the speech reading circuit.
Enterococcus is a fecal indicator bacterium and often used to indicate fecal contamination in the environment. Carbohydrates fermentation patterns of Enterococcus isolates were investigated as a way to differentiate the source of fecal contamination. Total 1826 Enterococcus isolates were obtained from cows, pigs, chickens, ducks, and humans in two geographically different locations. Distributions of carbohydrate fermentation patterns showed discrepancies among sources. This study suggest that the possibility of the use of Enterococcus in microbial source tracking.

To follow a sound source by a mobile robot, the relative position and orientation of the sound source from the mobile robot have been estimated using a microphone array. In this research, the difference among the traveling times of the sound source to each of three microphones has been used to calculate the distance and orientation of the sound source from the mobile robot which carries the microphone array. The cross-correlation between two signals has been applied for detecting the time difference between two signals, which provides reliable and precise value of the time difference comparing to the conventional methods. To generate the tracking direction to the sound source, fuzzy rules are applied and the results are used to control the mobile robot in a real-time. The efficiency of the proposed algorithm has been demonstrated through the real experiments comparing to the conventional approaches.
Heliostat sun tracking accuracy could be the most important requirement in solar thermal power plant, since it determines the overall efficiency of power plant. This study presents the effect of geometrical errors on the heliostat sun tracking performance. The geometrical errors considered here are the mirror canting error, encoder reference error, heliostat position error. pivot offset and tilt error, gear backlash and mass unbalanced effect error. We first investigate the effect of each individual geometrical error on the sun tracking accuracy. Then, the sun tracking error caused by the combination of individual geometrical error is computed and analyzed. The results obtained using the solar ray tracing technique shows that the sun tracking error due to the geometrical error is varying almost randomly. It also shows that the mirror canting error is the most significant error source, while the encoder reference error and gear backlash are second and the third dominant source of errors.
A radiation spectroscopy detector using a spherical scintillator was designed, and a system was developed to track the position of a radiation source using several detectors. The position tracking algorithm was designed based on the theory that the number of radiations decreases according to the inverse square law of distance, and the position of the radiation source was calculated by measuring the number of radiations generated from the radiation sources at various positions. The radiation generated from the radiation source is detected by different coefficients in each detector, and the difference between these detected coefficients varies in proportion to the inverse square of the distance. Geant4 Application for Tomographic Emission (GATE) simulation was performed to verify and evaluate the performance of the designed radiation source position tracking system, and radiation generated from radiation sources placed at different positions was counted with each detector. The number of measured radiations was tracked through the radiation source position tracking algorithm, and the error between the actual radiation source position and the position calculated by the algorithm was evaluated. The error between the position of the actual radiation source and the calculated position was measured as an average of 0.11% on the X-axis and 0.37% on the Y-axis, and it was verified that the position can be measured very accurately.

Multipath is an inevitable error source in radio navigation system such as GPS, it causes signal tracking errors such as carrier tracking errors, code tracking errors. Since code tracking error is a dominant error in absolute positioning, this paper focuses on the improvement of code tracking performance. This paper proposes a method that detects the change of autocorrelation function's slope and mitigates the multipath error. Also, this paper shows the performance evaluation results by post-processing the digitized RF samples.

This paper presents a localization system based on the use of electric compass and tracking IR light source. Digital RGB(Red, Green, Blue)signal of digital CMOS Camera is sent to CPLD which converts the color image to binary image at 30 frames per second. CMOS camera has IR filter and UV filter in front of CMOS cell. The filters cut off above 720nm light source. Binary output data of CPLD is sent to DSP that rapidly tracks the IR light source by moving Camera tilt DC motor. At a robot toward north, electric compass signals and IR light source angles which are used for calculating the data of the location system. Because geomagnetic field is linear in local position, this location system is possible. Finally, it is shown that position error is within ${\pm}1.3cm$ in this system.
