Sound Detection Characteristics Using Fabry-Perot Fiber Optic Sensor which Simply Supported in Structure (양단이 지지된 Fabry-Perot 광섬유센서의 음압 감지 특성 연구)

  • In this paper, fiber optic sensor using Fabry-Perot interferometer which had benefit of minimize and light-weight was used. The sensor head has 1cm in length, total length of fiber is 9.5 chi and the sensor supported at both ends, simply. To analyze the acoustic characteristic non-directional speaker is used as a sound source. Acoustic applied in lateral direction and detected two signals were compared each other. Below 1㎑ fiber optic sensor has more sensitive than microphone, but in 2㎑ fiber optic sensor has less sensitive than microphone. This characteristic varies to the supporting system of fiber optic sensor. It was confirmed that the Fabry-Perot interferometric sensor detected acoustic signal, effectively. This kind of sensor can be applied to the structural health monitoring field of intellectual structure.

An Experimental Study on the Absorption Performance of Ceramic Materials (세라믹 소재의 흡음성능에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • In this study, the acoustic properties of ceramic sound absorbing materials with different thickness and bulk density were investigated in terms of characteristic impedance, propagation constant, and absorption coefficient. The well-known two-cavity method was used for evaluating those acoustic parameter values. Also, in order to validate the experimentally measured values, the results were compared with the results obtained from Chung and Blaser's transfer function method and SWR method. The experimentally measured values of normal absorption coefficients were generally agreed well with the corresponding values from the transfer function method and the SWR method. Based on the experimental results, the following conclusions could be made. The magnitude of the absorption coefficient and the frequency range of the maximum absorption coefficient were controllable by changing the thickness and bulk density of the sound absorbing materials.

  • Actually, The present traffic accident detection system is subsisting limitation of accurate distinction under the crowded condition at intersection because the system depend upon mainly the image information at intersection and digital image processing techniques nearly all. To complement this insufficiency, this article aims to estimate the level of present technology and a realistic possibility by analyzing the acoustic characteristic of crash sound that we have to investigate for improvement of traffic accident detection rate at intersection. The skid sound of traffic accident is showed the special pattern at $1[kHz]{\sim}3[kHz}$ bandwidth when vehicles are almost never operated in and around intersection. Also, the frequency bandwidth of vehicle crash sound is showed sound pressure difference over 30[dB] higher than when there is no occurrence of traffic accident below 500[Hz].

Real Gas Speeds of Sound and Approximate Riemann Solver (실제 기체 음속과 근사 리만 해법)

  • The definition of the speed of sound is reexamined since it is crucial in the numerical analysis of compressible real gas flows. The thermodynamic speed of sound (TSS), $a_{th}$, and the characteristic speed of sound (CSS), $a_{ch}$, are derived using generalized equation of state (EOS). It is found that the real gas EOS, for which pressure is not linearly dependent on density and temperature, results in slightly different TSS and CSS. in this formalism, Roe's approximate Riemann solver was derived again with corrections for real gases. The results show a little difference when the speeds of sound are applied to the Roe's scheme and Advection Upstream Splitting Method (AUSM) scheme, but a numerical instability is observed for a special case using AUSM scheme. It is considered reasonable to use of CSS for the mathematical consistency of the numerical schemes. The approach is applicable to multi-dimensional problems consistently.

Heart Response Effect by 1/f Fluctuation Sounds for Emotional Labor on Employee (1/f 수준 별 음악 자극이 감정 노동 종사자의 심장 반응에 미치는 효과)

  • This study identified heart response of participants while listening to sounds which have 1/f fluctuations with exponent ${\alpha}$ gradient. The participants were engaged in emotional stress work. Prior studies related to 1/f fluctuation sound have reported that sound source can alleviate psychological and physiological state of users. Subjects of this study were exposed to sound with three levels of ${\alpha}$ gradient. Heart response of subjects were measured with Photoplethysmography(PPG) sensor simultaneously. The dependent variables of this study were beat per minute(BPM), very low frequency percent of pulse rate variability (VLF percent), the standard deviation of all normal RR intervals (SDNN), and high frequency power(HF power). Subject showed arousal response when exposed to sound with exponent ${\alpha}$ gradient of 3 whereas the sound with exponent ${\alpha}$ gradient of 1 and 2 resulted in relax effect. The characteristic of 1/f fluctuation sounds can be applied to alleviate stress for employers under emotional labor.

A study on the simplification of HRTF within high frequency region (고역 주파수 영역에서 HRTF의 간략화에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, we investigated the effect of the simplification for high frequency region in Head-Related Transfer Function(HRTF) on the sound localization. For this purpose, HRTF was measured and analyzed. The result in the HRTF frequency characteristic of the back sound source showed that the decrease revel of high frequency was smaller than that of low frequency region, which means the possibility of simplification in the high frequency region. Simplification was performed by flattening of the high frequency amplitude characteristics with the insertion of the low-pass filter, whose cutoff frequency is given by boundary frequency. Auditory experiments were performed to evaluate the simplified HRTF. The result showed that direction perception was not influenced by the simplification of the frequency characteristics of HRTF for the error of sound localization. The rate of confusion for the front and back was not affected by the simplification of the frequency characteristics over 8kHz of HRTF. Finally, we made it clear that the sound localization was not affected by the simplification of frequency characteristics of HRTF over 8kHz.

  • Dynamic characteristic of CD/DVD deck for vehicle is analyzed in this paper. Generally CD/DVD deck for vehicle is used from inferior environment with the vibration of the vehicle and shock of outside and so on. Therefore it must have the structure which is stabilized from the vibration to prevent read error. For this purpose, vibration characteristic of the deck for vehicle should be identified. To analyze characteristic of the deck system, we perform the signal analysis and modal testing using the FFT analyzer. Also we change the design factor degrading the performance of the deck system and verify the efficiency improvement using the acceleration measurement occurring to the sound discontinuation.

Evaluation of a signal segregation by FDBM (FDBM의 음원분리 성능평가)

  • Various approaches for sound source segregation have been proposed. Among these approaches, frequency domain binaural model(FDBM) has the advantages of low computational load and effective howling cancellation. A binaural hearing assistance system based on FDBM has been proposed. This system can enhance desired signal based on the directivity information. Although FDBM has been evaluated in terms of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and coherence function, the evaluation results do not always agree with the human impressions. These evaluation methods provide physical measures, and do not take account of perceptual aspect of human being. Considering a binaural hearing assistance system as a one of major applications, the quality of segregated sound should keep level enough. In the paper, signal segregation performance by means of FDBM is evaluated by three objective methods, i.e., SNR, coherence and Perceptual Evaluation of Speech Quality(PESQ), to discuss the characteristic of FDBM on the sound source segregation performance. The simulation's evaluation results show that FDBM improves the quality of the left and right channel signals to an equivalent level. And the results suggest the possibility that PESQ provides a more useful measure than SNR and coherence in terms of the segregation performance of FDBM. The evaluation results by PESQ show the effects from segregation parameters and indicate appropriate parameters under the conditions. Sound Quality Evaluation Based on the Mahalanobis Distance for the Interior Noise of Driving Vehicles with Various the Tire Type (타이어 종류에 따른 차량 실내 소음의 Mahalanobis Distance 를 이용한 음질인덱스 구축)

  • The reduction of vehicle interior noise has been the main interest of NVH engineers. The driver's perception of the vehicle noise is strongly affected by the psychoacoustic characteristics of the noise and the SPL. The existing methods to evaluate the SQ for vehicle interior noise are linear regression analysis of subjective SQ metrics by statistics and the estimation of subjective SQ values by neural network. However, these methods strongly depend on jury tests, this leads to difficulties. To reduce the important of the jury tests, we suggest a new method using the Mahalanobis distance for SQ evaluation. And, the optimal characteristic values that influenced the results of sound quality evaluation on the basis by main effect. Finally, we developed a new method based on the MD method to evaluate sound quality. The result of noise evaluation revealed that the sound quality could be well improved by changing the structural characteristics of the vehicle.

Construction and Comparison of Sound Quality Index for the Vehicle HVAC System Using Regression Model and Neural Network Model (회귀모형과 신경망모형을 이용한 차량공조시스템의 음질 인덱스 구축 및 비교)

  • The reduction of the vehicle interior noise has been the main interest of noise and vibration harshness (NVH) engineers. The driver's perception on the vehicle noise is affected largely by psychoacoustic characteristic of the noise as well as the SPL. In particular, the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system sound among the vehicle interior noise has been reflected sensitively in psychoacoustics view point. Even though the HVAC noise is not louder than overall noise level, it clearly affects subjective perception to drivers in the way of making to be nervous or annoyed. Therefore, these days a vehicle engineer takes aim at developing sound quality as well as reduction of noise. In this paper, we acquired noises in the HVAC from many vehicles. Through the objective and subjective sound quality (SQ) evaluation with acquiring noises recorded by the vehicle HVAC system, the simple and multiple regression models were obtained for the subjective evaluation 'Pleasant' using the semantic differential method (SDM). The regression procedure also allows you to produce diagnostic statistics to evaluate the regression estimates including appropriation and accuracy. Furthermore, the neural network (NN) model were obtained using three inputs(loudness, sharpness and roughness) of the SQ metrics and one output(subjective 'Pleasant'). Because human's perception is very complex and hard to estimate their pattern, we used NN model. The estimated models were compared with correlations between output indexes of SQ and hearing test results for verification data 'Pleasant'. As a result of application of the SQ indexes, the NN model was shown with the largest correlation of SQ indexes and we found possibilities to predict the SQ metrics.
