  • In this study, the noise mapping simulation is executed to design an effective barrier reducing noise levels of a school site. The geographical features of the ambient site and the school buildings are modelled in detail in order to consider sound propagation, deflection, and absorption phenomena etc. The main sound source, sound power level of expressway, is estimated on the basis of measured noise levels at several points of the site. The noise mapping simulation is performed by using ENPro, environmental noise prediction program based on ISO 9613 to analysis the effectiveness of noise barrier. Consequently, the noise barrier is designed to meet an environmental noise standard and satisfy low cost and safety conditions.

  • Carious dentin can be classified, on the basis of their clinical characteristics, into three groups; sound, sclerotic and active carious dentin. Active carious dentin differs from sclerotic dentin by its abscence of variable bacteria within tubles and amount of chemical content. But the apatite molecules of active carious dentin are not fully studied. The purpose of this study was to observed the physico-chemical characteristics of deep carious dentin. The samples of sound, sclerotic and active carious dentin were obtained respectively from 300 freshly extracted carious teeth. Bacterial-rich zone of superficial soft dentin layer was removed with hand instruments from all samples in advance. The samples were powdered and sieved (200 mesh) before analyses. Identification and estimation of the crystallinity of the samples were carried with X-ray diffraction and infrared absorption analyses. Measurements were made on a Rigaku Denki (Rigaku, geiger flex III, Japan) X-ray diffractometer with Cu-target at 30 Kv, 30 mA and are traced on a monochromatic tracer. Infrared absorption analysis was made on FT-IR spectrophometer (Nicolet Instrument Co.) using KBr pellets containing the samples and was recorded on data process (Model IR-80. Nicolet Instrument, Co). The following conclusions were as follows; 1. The nature of the main inorganic structure of sound, sclerotic and active carious dentin proved to be hydroxyapatite. 2. It was difficult to determine the identification due to their crystallinity of sound, sclerotic and active carious dentin. But sound dentin was the highest in crystallinity among them. 3. The magnesium whitlockite was to be found in active carious dentin, but not in sound and sclerotic dentin. 4. The carbonate content was highest in sound dentin, but the lowest was in active carious dentin.

  • Recently, we founded acoustic research laboratory consist of five reverberation rooms on the basis of ISO regulations. Four kinds of experiment are possible in our laboratory such as sound transmission loss of wall, sound attenuation of suspended ceiling, absorption coefficient, reduction of transmitted impact sound by floor coverings. We are going to provide our customers with officially authorized acoustics data.

  • Recently Korean Industrial Standards has been revised and established newly accordance with the ISO system, especially ISO 140 series. This study aims to introduce and review ISO 11654 which contents rating of sound absorption, and then this study suggests to establish appropriate evaluating method and Korean Industrial Standard of the sound absorber for use in building.

  • The object of this study is the numerical analysis about the sound pressure distribution in reverberation rooms. In order to obtain the effect of the boundary conditions of the wall, the sound field was computed for various absorption coefficients and impedances. And the effect of the room shape was investigated by dealing with pentagonal type as well as the rectangular type. In addition an experiment was performed for the sound pressure distribution in a reverberation room and the result was compared with the analysis.

  • In the study of foaming a general waste glass, sample 1 to 5 were made in a various foaming conditions, measurements of pH, density, compressive strength, thermal conductivity, and the sound absorption rate were carried out. Sample I showed the most small pore, and sample 5 showed pores of 3 times larger than that of sample 1. In terms of pore size, Sample 5 was foamed mostly well, but except lower density compressive strength, efficiency of sound absorption, testing in sound room were obtained below the minimum values is lower. In the case of Sample 1 it showed $0.58g/cm^3$, but the final target value was $0.8g/cm^3$. In the case of compressive strength it showed $22kg/cm^3$, which is above value of the final target. The efficiency of sound absorption of Sample 1 showed NRC 0.68, which is close to the final target of NRC 0.7.
