고온석탄 가스에서 황화물의 제거하기 위한 다공성 흡착제의 개발-1. 황화수소가스 흡착제의 첨가물 효과- (Development of Porous Sorbents for Removal of Hydrogen Sulfide from Hot Coal Gas -I. Additive Effect of Sorbents for the Removal of Hydrogen Sulfide-)

  • 석탄유도가스에 포함된 황화수소를 제거시킬 흡착제를 개발하기 위하여 알칼리 토금속, 천이원소 및 아연의 이온반경보다 이온반경이 작은 금속산화물을 산화아연에 첨가시켜 다공성 흡착제를 제조하였다. 600$\circ$C에서 이들 첨가시료를 2.09vol.% 황화수소와 질소가스 혼합기체로 반응시켜 초기속도를 측정하고, 같은 온도에서 사용된 흡착제를 공기로 재생시켰다. 사용된 금속산화물 첨가 흡착제중에서 CaO, TiO$_2$, $Fe_2O_3$, CuO, $Ga_2O_3$ 및 Si$_2$O가 ZnO 흡착제의 초기속도를 증가시켜 첨가제로 사용할 수 있음을 보였다.

토양 슬러리내에 수착된 phenanthrene의 생물학적 이용성 (Bioavailability of sorbed phenanthrene in soil slurries)

  • Bioavailability study was conducted to elucidate the relationship between sorption/desorption and biodegradation of sorbed phenanthrene in seven different soils. Mineralization kinetics was determined for phenanthrene-sorbed soil slurries inoculated with Pseudomonas putida (ATCC strain 17484). Two biodegradation models were used to fit mineralization kinetics; (i) a first-order degradation model and (ii) a coupled degradation-desorption model. The biodegradation rates were in order of vermicompost >Bion peat > 50% organoclay > Pahokee > blank (no soil, medium only) > montmorillonite > Ohio shale. The mineralization rate constants increased as desorption-resistance of phenanthrene increased. Among the tested sorbents, active biodegradation of phenanthrene was observed in vermicompost and Bion peat. Biodegradation in these two sorbents exhibited little lag time and a high maximum mineralized capacity. The role of sorption/desorption in bioavailability of phenanthrene sorbed in soils was discussed.

  • The effect of the presence of dissolved organic matters(DOM) on the binding of phenanthrene to cetylpyridinium chloride(CPC) coated sand was investigated. The distribution coefficient of phenanthrene increased with increase of sufactant coverage, and decreased with the presence of dissolved organic matters except for the 1.600mg/g coverage case. Both Aldrich humic acid and extracted dissolved organic matter showed the similar tendency. For the quantification of the overall distribution coefficient, this study presented mass distribution model and estimated the sorption equilibrium coefficients of hydrophobic organic compounds(HOCs) in multi system. The suggested model combined a series of sorption equilibrium relationships including the adsorption of DOMs on sorbents, the binding between HOCs and DOMs, and the sorption of HOCs on sorbents with or without DOMs.

Simultaneous determination of bisphenol A, chlorophenols and alkylphenols by solid-phase extraction and HPLC

  • An analytical method for determining potential endocrine disruptors (bisphenol A, 2-chlorophenol, 2,4-dichlorophenol, 2,4,6-trichlorophenol, pentachlorophenol, p-t-butylphenol, p-pentylphenol, p-hexylphenol, p-t-octylphenol, p-heptylphenol, nonylphenol) by solid-phase extraction (SPE) and High Perfomance Liquid Chromatography(HPLC) equipped with fluorescence and variable wavelength detector has been developed. The SPE process for sample concentration was performed on a commercially available Oasis HLB cartridge packed with polymeric sorbents. The effect of elution solvent and elution volume on the recoveries of the analytes were investigated with HPLC. Average recovery of >85% was achieved with 60mg sorbents using 5mL of methanol as elution solvent. Phenolic compounds in canned drinks, beverages and water samples were surveyed by this proposed method.

  • Sorbents of calcined limestone and oyster particles having a diameter of about 0.63mm were exposed to simulated fuel gases containing 5000ppm $H_2S$ for temperatures ranging from 600 to 80$0^{\circ}C$ in a TGA (Thermalgravimetric analyzer). The reaction between CaO and $H_2S$ proceeds via an unreacted shrinking core mechanism. The sulfidation rate is likely to be controlled primarily by countercurrent diffusion through the product layer of calcium sulfide(CaS) formed. The kinetics of the sorption of $H_2S$ by CaO is sensitive to the reaction temperature and particle size, and the reaction rate of oyster was faster than the calcined limestone.

Removal of radioactive methyliodide from the gas stream with a composite sorbent based on polyurethane foam

  • A composite iodine sorbent was obtained in the form of porous polymer matrix with activated carbon particles impregnated with triethylenediamine deposited on its surface. A comparative assessment of the radioactive methyliodide capturing efficiency by the composite sorbent and a sample of industrial charcoal sorbent was conducted. It was shown that under the selected testing conditions, the hydraulic resistance of the composite sorbent is lower, and the sorption capacity is higher than that of the industrial charcoal sorbent. A method for comparing the effectiveness of iodine sorbents, based on the calculation of the ratio of the sorption capacity index to the minimum capacity index, needed for the required purification degree was proposed.
