Purpose: The biocompatibility and bio-adhesive property of a dental implant abutment are important for proper soft tissue healing and maintenance of osseointegration of implant. However, studies of soft tissue healing and mucosal attachment of various materials of implant abutment other than titanium are still needed. In this study, cell attachment, proliferation, cytotoxicity of human gingival fibroblast for ceramic, gold alloy, Ni-Cr alloy and, commercially available pure titanium as a control were evaluated, using MTS and scanning electron microscopy. Materials and Methods: Specimen was designed to disc, 4mm diameter and 1mm thickness, made of ceramic, gold alloy, Ni-Cr alloy and commercially available pure titanium. Primary culture of human gingival fibroblasts were grown in Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium with 10% fetal bovine serum and 1% antibiotics. Cells were inoculated in the multiwell plates placed the specimen disc. Cell Titer 96 AQucous One Solution Cell Proliferation Assay were done after 1hour 3hours, 24hours, 3days, 5days of incubation. The discs were processed for scanning electron micrography to evaluate cell attachment and morphologic change. Results: The results were obtained as fellows. 1. The ceramic showed high cell attachment and proliferation and low cytotoxicity, which is as much bioadhesive and biocompatible as titanium. 2. The gold alloy represented limited proliferation of human gingival fibroblast and the highest cytotoxicity among tested materials (p<0.05). 3. The Ni-Cr alloy limited the proliferaion of the human gingival fibroblast compared to titanium(p<0.05) but cytotoxicity on the bottom of well was not so considerable, compared to titanium. 4. On the scanning electron micrographs , the ceramic showed good attachment and proliferation of human gingival fibroblast, which was similar to titanium. But gold alloy and Ni-Cr alloy showed the shrinkage of gingival fibroblast both after 24 hours and 3 days. On 5th day, small amount of the human gingival fibroblast proliferation was observed on the Ni-Cr alloy, while the shrinkage of gingival fibroblast was still observed on the gold alloy. Conclusions: These results suggest that the ceramic abutment is as biocompatible as titanium to make proper mucosal seal. The gold alloy has a high cytotoxicity to limit proliferation of gingival fibroblast, which suggest limited use on the anterior tooth where soft tissue healing is recommeded.
In this study, an attempt was made to investigate the probable organelles participating in the secretion of biligrafin. The animals (ICR male mice, 25-30gm) were divided into normal control and 6 biligrafin injected groups to which 30% biligrafin (0.006ml/gm b.w.) were injected at 10, 20, 40, 80, 160 and 320 min prior to the sampling. The mice of each group were perfused through the heart with ice-cold 2.5% glutaraldehyde buffered with 0.1M Na-cacodylate (pH. 7.4) under the Na-pentobarbital (Nembtal 0.0015mg/gm b.w.) anesthesia and liver tissues were taken from each group. Some specimens were immersed 1 hr in the same solution used in the perfusion. After an overnight rinse in 0.1M Na-cacodylate buffer containing 10% DMSO and 7.6% sucrose, $75{\mu}m$ fronzen sections were made for cytochemical study. The sections were incubated in thiamin pyrophosphatase (TPPase) and inosine diphosphatase (ID Pase) media for 70 min at $37^{\circ}C$ respectively and acid phosphatase (AcPase) medium for 40 min at $37^{\circ}C$. They were postfixed in 1 % $OsO_4$ for 1 hr. The other specimens were immersed for 8 hrs in the fixative consisting of 2.5% glutaraldehyde and 3.0% paraformaldehyde buffered with Na-cacodylate (pH. 7.4). All of the osmificated specimens were processed for electron microscopy. In both normal and biligrafin injected groups, endoplasmic reticulum (ER), vacuoles, Golgi apparatus and lysosomes were seen in the vicinity of bile canaliculus. In the biligrafin injected groups, however, the Golgi apparatus appeared to be decreased and ER and vacuoles were dilated and increased. The rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER) having a few attached ribosomes appeared to be the round saccule, especially at 20 min after biligrafin injection. Smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER) seemed to be formed by the detachment of ribosomes at the cisternal end of RER. The cistern of SER showed saccules which probably budded off to form the vacuole. The vacuoles were devoid of visible centents. This finding seemed to be in agreement with the biochemical property of the bile constituents. The fusion between the vacuoles and bile canaliculus were frequently seen in the groups injected with biligrafin. The lysosome did not show any changes in the biligrafin injected groups. Accumulation of some material and lipid droplets were seen at the 40 and 80 min after biligrafin injection, especially at the latter. At 160 and 320 min after biligrafin injections, however, they were decreased successively while the RER stack, free ribosomes and polysomes were increased. Although the reactive products of TPPase and IDPase were observed in the ER saccules and vesicles of the normal control and biligrafin injected groups, the fusion between the bile canaliculus and saccules or vesicles could easily be seen in the latter. The AcPase activity, however, was observed in the cistern at the maturing face of Golgi apparatus and lysosomes in both normal and biligrafin groups. The results suggest that the biligrafin is excreted via the vesicles, vacuoles or sacoules probably derived from the SER without the participation of Golgi apparatus and lysosomes, and the excess amount of material is stored as inclusions during the repairing of the organelles being overactive.
The purpose of this study is to verify the utility of reflected photoplethysmography sensor using two green light emitting diodes that influenced by ambient light. Recently it has been studied that green light emitting diode is suitable for light source of reflected photoplethysmography sensor at low temperature and high temperature. Another study showed that, green light is better for monitoring heart rate during motion than led light. However, it has a bad characteristic about ambient light noise. To verify the utility of reflected photoplethysmography sensor using green light emitting diode, this study measures the photoplethysmography signal that is distorted by ambient light and will propose a solution. This study has two parts of research method. One is measurement system that composed sensor and board. The sensor is made up PE-foam and Non-woven fabric for flexible sensor. The photoplethysmography signal is measured by measurement board that composed high-pass filter, low-pass filter and amplifier. Ambient light source is light bulb and white light emitting diode that has three steps brightness. Photoplethysmography signal is measured with lead II electrocardiography signal at the same time and it is measured at the finger and radial artery for 1 minute, 1000 Hz sampling rate. The lead II electrocardiography signal is a standard signal for heart rate and photoplethysmography signal that measured at the finger is a standard signal for waveform. The test is repeated 3 times using three sensor. The data is processed by MATLAB to verify the utility by comparing the correlation coefficient score and heart rate. The photoplethysmography sensor using two green light emitting diodes is shown better utility than using one green light emitting diode and red light emitting diode at the ambient light. The waveform and heart rate that measured by two green light emitting diodes are more identical than others. The amount of electricity used is less than red light emitting diode and error peak detectability factor is the lowest.

Five varieties of sweetpotatoes recommended in Korea were investigated with respect to the storing capacity, resin content and the possibility of developing sweetpotato chips as a new processed food item. The results are summarized as follows: 1) Two varieties, Suwon No. 147 and Chun-Mi were more resistant to chilling injury and soft-rot decay than other varieties. 2) The contents of resinous and polyphenolic substances were quite different depending upon the variety. 3) Sweetpotato chips of different color were made from different varieties and rapeseed oil was found to be the best as frying oil. 4) Best conditions to prepare sweetpotato chips with fresh color and proper texture were to dip slices of 1-2 mm thickness in 0.25% sodium bisulfite solution at $40^{\circ}C$ for 30-40 minutes and to subject to deep frying in an oil bath at $150-160^{\circ}C$ for 2.5 to 3.5 minutes. 5) Polyethylene-cellophane film as packing material of sweetpotato chips was the film in the moisture proof and film-impact tests.

The Korea Meteorological Administration provided the recent four-years records of weather dataset for our very short-term heavy rainfall prediction. We divided the dataset into three parts: train, validation and test set. Through feature selection, we select only important features among 72 features to avoid significant increase of solution space that arises when growing exponentially with the dimensionality. We used a differential evolution algorithm and two classifiers as the fitness function of evolutionary computation to select more accurate feature subset. One of the classifiers is Support Vector Machine (SVM) that shows high performance, and the other is k-Nearest Neighbor (k-NN) that is fast in general. The test results of SVM were more prominent than those of k-NN in our experiments. Also we processed the weather data using undersampling and normalization techniques. The test results of our differential evolution algorithm performed about five times better than those using all features and about 1.36 times better than those using a genetic algorithm, which is the best known. Running times when using a genetic algorithm were about twenty times longer than those when using a differential evolution algorithm.
To develop and extend the shelf-life of vitamin C enriched fresh-cut apples using CA stored Fuji apples, dipping in 10% L-ascorbic acid and packaging with 0.03 mm LDPE, 0.04 mm PP and 0.08 mm Nylon/PE film(N$_2$displacement) were carried out. The changes of gas concentrations in the packaging and quality attributes of fresh-cut apples were examined during storage at 10$^{\circ}C$. The concentrations of O$_2$was maintained lower in Nylon/PE film than the other film, the level of O$_2$was in the range of 1∼3%. The increase of C$_2$H$_4$ concentrations in Nylon/PE film bag was more suppressed than the others. The vitamin C content of fresh-cut apples was enriched by dipping in L-ascorbic acid solution up to 241 mg$.$100 g-1 f.w., and the loss or that content was retarded differently by the package conditions of lower O$_2$level during storage. Browning in fresh-cut apples was shown after 6 days of storage in LDPE and PP film. but it was not shown by 14 days of storage in Nylon/PE film. Spoilage and off odor in fresh-cut apples were not detected up to 14 days of storage in Nylon/PE film. The results indicated that the vitamin C enriched fresh-cut apples can be processed from the long-term CA stored apples, and maintaining high quality of the products ill be possible in cases of the application of sealing packaging after O$_2$removal with film having low O$_2$permeability.
Tartary buckwheat has potential as a source of functional food because it contains a number of bioactive compounds such as rutin, catechin and so on. This study was conducted to determine the possibility of development of processed products extracted from sugar-treated sprouts of tartary buckwheat. By using undiluted solution extracted from sprouts of tartary buckwheat, we analyzed their nutrition components and did in vivo experiment to find out pharmaceutical effects. In an experiment using mice, we administered various concentration of buckwheat to induced diabetic mellitus mice for 1 weeks. As a result, the fermented extract from buckwheat sprouts effected finely on lowering blood sugar and decreased LDL-cholesterol and total lipid level but increased HDL-cholesterol level.

The purpose of this study was to compare surface hardness between titanium-nitride coated crowns (TiNCs) and stainless steel crowns (SSCs), and to evaluate the corrosion resistance and color sustainability of TiNCs. Ten TiNCs and 10 SSCs were used for the hardness test. Measurement was performed 30 times for each type of crowns, and the mean values were compared. Metallic raw material plates (before being processed into crowns) of TiNCs and SSCs were prepared for the corrosion resistance test. The total amounts of metal ion releases in the test solution were detected by inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry. Five TiNCs were subjected to the color sustainability test by applying repetitive brushing forces. The mean hardness values of TiNC group and SSC group were 395.53 ± 105.90 Hv and 278.70 ± 31.45 Hv respectively. Hardness of TiNCs were significantly higher than that of SSCs. The total amounts of metal ion releases from the materials of TiNCs and SSCs satisfied the criterion in International Organization for Standardization 22674. The results mean that TiNCs and SSCs were not harmful in an acidic environment. The golden coating was stable against the repetitive physical stimulations for a given period time.

Analytical methods for food antioxidants including ascorbic acid, erythorbic acid, ascorbyl palmitate (AP), and ascorbyl stearate (AS), were validated using high performance liquid chromatography. Validation parameters such as linearity, limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantification (LOQ), and recovery were tested using lard and cider as food model systems. Linearity of ascorbic acid and erythorbic acid were both higher than ($R^2$> 0.99), LOD of these compounds were 0.46 and 0.48 ${\mu}g/mL$, respectively and LOQ were 1.39 and 1.45 ${\mu}g/mL$, respectively. The recovery rates of these compounds were 86.35-94.78% and 84.76-95.02%, respectively. However, the concentration of AP and AS decreased in methanol stock solution. Four other solvents including ethanol, acetonitrile, mixture of methanol and acetonitrile, and mixture of ethanol and acetonitrile were tested to increase the stability of AP and AS under room temperature and refrigerated temperature. Ethanol provided better stability of AP and AS under both room and refrigerated temperature. This study can help to accurately analyze the content of ascorbic acid and its derivatives in processed foods.

The leather industry generates a large amount of hazardous leather waste of various types every year. Among them, shaving scrap is difficult to recycle because it contains chromium ions. Many studies in recent years have shown that shaving scraps can be processed into various types of valuable products, such as adsorbent, filler, and poultry feed. In this study, collagen peptides were extracted from shaving scraps and structurally modified to be developed as new materials with improved physicochemical properties. First, the chromium ions contained in the shaving scraps were removed using a sodium hydroxide solution, and purified through concentration and low-temperature crystallization. The purified collagen peptide was used to prepare the powder using a spray dryer. The extracted collagen peptides were structurally modified by introducing double bonds by reacting with methacrylic anhydride (MAA), and the product was confirmed by 1H NMR spectroscopy. Next, a copolymer was prepared by redox polymerization of the modified collagen peptide (MCP) and 2-ethylhexyl acrylate (2-EHA). The structure of the copolymer was qualitatively confirmed by FT-IR. In conclusion, this study confirmed that collagen peptides can be extracted from shaving scrap and converted into new eco-friendly materials through certain treatments.
