  • Data on the solubility of p-hydroxy-benzoate in amide-water cosolvent system and surface tension of the binary amide-water cosolvents are analyzed in terms of the possible mechanism for cosolvency. The results of the study suggest that strong partitioning of the alkylated amides to the ester surface, thus reducing the hydrophobic interface within the system, nay account for much of the cosolvency phenomena observed in these systems.

  • The thermodynamic analysis of deoxidation in molten coppyr by Fe has been made. Equilibrium oxygen solubility saturated with FeO in Cu-Fe-O system has been derived without and with consideration of the solute interaction between Fe and O. The derived relationship of oxygen contents with Fe has been compared with the experimental results done by Kulkarni and the minimum oxygen solubility could be predicted by a simple first order interaction method, Wagner model.

  • Nitrogen solubility in liquid Fe and Fe-C alloys has been measured by the levitation melting method under 1 atm $N_2$ pressure. Experiments were carried out at the temperature range of $1774-2097^{\circ}K$ and carbon content of 0-5.06wt%. The nitrogen solubilities measured in pure Fe and Fe-C alloys were $log(wt%N)_{Fe}=-424/T-1.129$ and $log(wt%N)_{Fe-C}=-[424/T+1.129+(%C)/19.14{5447/T-0.612}+(%C)^2/19.14$ 2478/T-1.265].

  • Data are present for the interaction of beta-cyclodextrin with 7 pharmaceuticals in aqueous solution. By means of the solubility method of analysis, definite interaction were found to occur with all the compounds tested. The amount of these pharmaceuticals in equilibrium with their respective solid phase increased progressively with beta-cyclodextrin. A concentration of 1.5 g of beta-cyclodextrin per 100 ml of water increased the solubility of most compounds tested (except one) by 15-120%. Hydrolysis in alkali solution of chrolothiazide was retarded in the presence of beta-cyclodextrin.

  • We have prepared the plasma-polymerized membrane for pervaporation of organic-liquid mixtures by the plasma polymerization technique. Plasma polymerization techniques were utilized in the development of hydrophilic composite membranes having high hydrogen ion permeability and excellent dimensional stability. To develop an organic liquid permselective Membrane, suppressing membrane swearing as well as enhancing the solubility difference is impotant. the objectives of the present study are to disign a suitable membrane for an organic-mixture system by the control of the plasma-polymer solubility.

  • Iron is an important micronutrient for plants. Iron metabolism is a complex mechanism under a delicate balance. Iron metabolism represents two major problems for plants: deficiency as a consequence of solubility problems and toxicity due to excess solubility in anaerobic conditions. In the last few years, new genes have been discovered that influence iron uptake, transport and storage. Irrigated rice is exposed to high levels of $Fe^{II}$, normally rare in aerobic soil conditions. The implications of altering iron uptake rates and the effects of newly discovered genes are discussed.

  • Solubility of carbon tetrachloride ($CCl_4$) in water increases appreciably in presence of $\beta$-cyclodextrin ($\beta$CD). $CCl_4$ is a very good quencher of 1-naphthol (1ROH) fluorescence. By studying the quenching of fluorescence of 1ROH included in $\beta$CD cavity, it was found that there is an increase in the availability of $CCl_4$ around $\beta$CD in the aqueous medium. This could help to rationalize the enhanced solubility of $CCl_4$.

  • Nine new solubility-increased container hosts having eight undecyl substituents were synthesized and characterized. 1H NMR spectral data showed integral inclusion state of carceplexes and their stability. 1H NMR chemical shifts of guest DMA were correlated to the host's cavity dimensions shrinked by constrictive binding. Carceplex and hemicarcerand showed their distinctive FD mass spectra.
