We analyzed the amount of environmental loads, and the amount of energy consumption through life cycle assessment from a discharge stage to the ultimate disposal to municipal solid waste in Seoul. We carried out inventory analysis of the amount of environmental loads that made the object range collection, intermediate treatment, and the final treatment, and took into consideration each stage exceptions CO$_2$ and NOx , the amount of SOx discharge, and energy consumption. We applied the data of an object model, and acquisition processed the scale of an object model suitably and applied to it to difficult data using the data of the Yokohama City incineration plant in Japan. The amount of environmental loads per Iton of municipal waste were analyzed CO$_2$ 0.4C-ton, SOx 0.4kg and NOx 0.8kg. Moreover, the amount of energy consumption which is 2.4Gcal was computed.
The deposition of solids in combined sewer systems results in a loss of flow capacity that may restrict flow and cause a local flooding and enhanced solids deposition. In order to solve these problems and proper pipe management, estimation of solid loads from sewer and surface in a drainage basin is needed but this task is very difficult and extremely expensive. In this study, generalized procedures for estimating sewer solid loads during dry weather in combined sewer systems and for estimating solid loads on surface in a drainage basin developed by the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency were applied and analyzed in Gunja drainage basin in Korea. As result, the estimated solid loads from sewer and surface are 205.8,759kg/yr and 1,321,993kg/yr respectively, and total solid loads is 1,527,752kg/yr. The estimated solid removal from street cleaning, dredging from pipe system and pumping house is 1,486,636kg/yr. Therefore, the applied methods show resonable results. More reliable estimation can be achieved if long-term measurements and adjustment of estimation equations are carried out, and this estimation methods can be used usefully for the management of combined sewer system with reduction of cost and effort.
In the present study, buckling and free vibration analyses of annular thin sector plate made of functionally graded materials (FGMs) resting on visco-elastic Pasternak foundation, subjected to external radial, circumferential and shear in-plane loads is investigated. Material properties are assumed to vary along the thickness according to an power law with Poisson's ratio held constant. First, based on the classical plate theory (CPT), the governing equation of motion is derived using Hamilton's principle and then is solved using the generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM). Numerical results are compared to those available in the literature to validate the convergence and accuracy of the present approach. Finally, the effects of power-law exponent, ratio of radii, thickness of the plate, sector angle, and coefficients of foundation on the fundamental and higher natural frequencies of transverse vibration and critical buckling loads are considered for various boundary conditions. Also, vibration and buckling mode shapes of functionally graded (FG) sector plate have been shown in this research. One of the important obtained results from this work show that ratio of the frequency of FG annular sector plate to the corresponding values of homogeneous plate are independent from boundary conditions and frequency number.
This paper deals with a novel solid state controller (NSSC) for parallel operated isolated asynchronous generators (IAG) feeding 3-phase 4-wire loads in constant power applications, such as uncontrolled pico hydro turbines. AC capacitor banks are used to meet the reactive power requirement of asynchronous generators. The proposed NSSC is realized using a set of IGBTs (Insulated gate bipolar junction transistors) based current controlled 4-leg voltage source converter (CC-VSC) and a DC chopper at its DC bus, which keeps the generated voltage and frequency constant in spite of changes in consumer loads. The complete system is modeled in MATLAB along with simulink and PSB (power system block set) toolboxes. The simulated results are presented to demonstrate the capability of isolated generating system consisting of NSSC and parallel operated asynchronous generators driven by uncontrolled pico hydro turbines and feeding 3-phase 4-wire loads.
In the present work, the impact loads and their effects on the surface damage under the simultaneous cavitation bubble and solid particle collapses in the sea water have been quantitatively investigated for the austenitic 304 stainless steel by using a vibratory cavitation test device. To do this, angular $SiO_2$ solid particles with an average size of $150{\mu}m$ were dispersed into the test liquid, and the measured impact amplitudes were converted into the impact loads by a steel ball drop test. The maximum impact load was determined to be 28.2 N in the absence of solid particles, but increased to 33.7 N in the presence of solid particles. In addition, the critical impact loads, $L_{crit}$, required to generate pits with sizes greater than $3{\mu}m$ were measured to be 19.6 N and 16.6 N, respectively, for the cavitation bubble collapse and solid particle collapse. As a result of the cavitation erosion test, the incubation time and erosion rate were 1.2 times lower and 1.5 times higher, respectively, by a solid particle collapse compared to those only by the cavitation bubble collapse, indicating a drastic decrease in a resistance to cavitation erosion by the solid particle collapse.

Based on laboratory experiments and numerical simulations, the scale effect of Internal Solitary Wave (ISW) loads on spar platforms is investigated. First, the waveforms, loads, and torques on the spar model at a laboratory obtained by the experiments and simulations agree well with each other. Then, a prototype spar platform is simulated numerically to elucidate the scale effect. The scale effect for the horizontal forces is significant owing to the viscosity effect, whereas it is insignificant and can be neglected for the vertical forces. From the similarity point of view, the Froude number was the same for the scaled model and its prototype, while the Reynolds number increased significantly. The results show that the Morison equation with the same set of drag and inertia coefficients is not applicable to estimate the ISW loads for both the prototype and laboratory scale model. The coefficients should be modified to account for the scale effect. In conclusion, the dimensionless vertical forces on experimental models can be applied to the prototype, but the dimensionless horizontal forces of the experimental model are larger than those of the prototype, which will lead to overestimation of the horizontal force of the prototype if direct conversion is implemented.

The present study analyzed free vibration of the three-layered micro annular/circular plate which its core and face sheets are made of saturated porous materials and FG-CNTRCs, respectively. The structure is subjected to magneto-electric fields and magneto-electro-mechanical pre loads. Mechanical properties of the porous core and also FG-CNTRC face sheets are varied through the thickness direction. Using dynamic Hamilton's principle, the motion equations based on MCS and FSD theories are derived and solved via GDQ as an efficient numerical method. Effect of different parameters such as pores distributions, porosity coefficient, pores compressibility, CNTs distribution, elastic foundation, multi-physical pre loads, small scale parameter and aspect ratio of the plate are investigated. The findings of this study can be useful for designing smart structures such as sensor and actuator.
This research investigate the behavior of reinforced normal and lightweight aggregate concrete hollow core slabs with different core shapes, shear span to effective depth (a/d). The experimental work includes testing seven reinforced concrete slabs under two vertical line loads. The dimensions of slab specimens were (1.1 m) length, (0.6 m) width and (0.12 m) thickness. The maximum reduction in weight due to aggregate type was (19.28%) and due to cross section (square and circular) cores was (17.37 and 13.64%) respectively. The test results showed that the decrease of shear span to effective depth ratio from 2.9 to 1.9 for lightweight aggregate solid slab cause an increase in ultimate load by (29.06%) and increase in the deflection value at ultimate load or the ultimate deflection by (17.79%). The use of lightweight aggregate concrete in casting solid slabs give a reduction in weight by (19.28%) and in the first cracking and ultimate loads by (16.37%) and (5%) respectively for constant (a/d=2.9).The use of lightweight aggregate concrete in casting hollow circular core slabs with constant (a/d=2.9) (reduction in weight 32.92%) decrease the cracking and ultimate loads by (12%) and (5.18%) respectively with respect to the solid slab. These slab specimens were analyzed numerically by using the finite element computer program ANSYS. Good agreements in terms of behavior, cracking load (load at first visible crack) and ultimate load (maximum value of testing load) was obtained between finite element analysis and experimental test results.
Tests were conducted on two partially pre-stressed concrete solid beams subjected to combined loading of bending, shear and torsion. The beams were designed using the Direct Design Method which is based on the Lower Bound Theorem of the Theory of Plasticity. Both beams were of $300{\times}300mm$ cross-section and 3.8 m length. The two main variables studied were the ratio of the maximum shear stress due to the twisting moment, to the shear stress arising from the shear force, which was varied between 0.69 and 3.04, and the ratio of the maximum twisting moment to the maximum bending moment which was varied between 0.26 and 1.19. The required reinforcement from the Direct Design Method was compared with requirements from the ACI and the BSI codes. It was found that, in the case of bending dominance, the required longitudinal reinforcements from all methods were close to each other while the BSI required much larger transverse reinforcement. In the case of torsion dominance, the BSI method required much larger longitudinal and transverse reinforcement than the both the ACI and the DDM methods. The difference in the transverse reinforcement is more pronounce. Experimental investigation showed good agreement between design and experimental failure loads of the beams designed using the Direct Design Method. Both beams failed within an acceptable range of the design loads and underwent ductile behaviour up to failure. The results indicate that the Direct Design Method can be successfully used to design partially prestressed concrete solid beams which cater for the combined effect of bending, shear and torsion loads.
This paper presents a thermoelastic analysis of variable thickness plates made of functionally graded materials (FGM) subjected to mechanical and thermal loads. The thermal load is applied to the plate as a temperature difference between the top and bottom surfaces. Temperature distribution in the plate is obtained using the steady-state heat equation. Except for Poisson's ratio, all mechanical properties of the plate are assumed to vary linearly along the thickness direction based on the volume fractions of ceramic and metal. The plate is resting on an elastic foundation modeled based on the Winkler foundation model. The governing equations are derived based on the third-order shear deformation theory (TSDT) and are solved numerically for various boundary conditions using the differential quadrature method (DQM). The effects of various parameters on the stress distribution and deflection of the plate are investigated such as the value of thermal and mechanical loads, volume fractions of ceramic and metal, and the stiffness coefficients of the foundation.
