In this study, a documentary survey, face mapping, and stability analysis were performed on the collapsed colluvial soil slope. The purpose of this paper is to identify the cause of slope failure and determine slope stability for similar areas. Boring samples were extracted from the slump and laboratory tests were performed to find out the cause of slope failure. In addition, the limit equilibrium method was used in order to determine the stability of the slope. As a result of this investigation and the analysis of data, the type of collapse and cause of slope failure have been shown to have a strong correlation with the natural geographical and geological features which make up the collapse profile of the study area. These results will help to develop guidelines for formulating countermeasure methods.
Tentative consolidation criteria, a kind of land suitability classification, was established for cultivated upland soils. The criteria were composed of systematically quantified individual soil properties such as physiography(relief), slope, available soil depth etc., and local features such as soil complexity, mapping unit separation, width/length ratio etc. The criteria was applied to upland soils in granite area, and sedimentary rock area. It was clear that the comparison of local features among candidated areas, and classification of suitability classes for land consolidation of upland soils was satisfactory for selection. The status of the areas classified to "Well suitable" were distributed on alluvial plains or less dissected rollings with lower complexity of soils occurred and extended acreage in each mapping unit. On the other hand, the areas classified as "Unsuitable" were distributed on the elongated narrow valleys with quite divided mapping units by paddy fields on the valley bottom.

Soil is one of the Earth's most important resources. There are many differences among the soils of plains.like and hilly terrains, and therefore, accurate and comprehensive information on soil is essential for optimum and sustainable soil utilization. However, information on the soil of the hilly terrains of the Eastern Ghats of Tamil Nadu, India, is limited or absent. In the present study, Kolli hill, one among the hills of the Eastern Ghats, was soil.inventoried and mapped using a ground survey and remote sensing. Soil samples were collected and their physico.chemical properties analyzed according to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) standards. The soils were classified up to the family level. As a result of this study, 30 soil series belonging to ten sub.groups of five great groups and three sub.orders and orders each, were identified (classified to the family level) and mapped. Entisols, Inseptisols and Alfisols were the three orders, among which Entisols was the major one, occupying 75% of the area. Among the five great groups, Ustorthents occupied majority of the area (73%). Lithic Ustorthents and Typic Ustorthents were the two major sub.groups, occupying 40% and 26% of the total area, respectively. The present soil resource mapping of the Eastern Ghats of Tamil Nadu is a pioneer study, which yielded valuable information on the soil in this region.
The development and application of a high-resolution soil moisture mapping method using satellite imagery has been considered one of the major research themes in remote sensing. In this study, soil moisture mapping in the test area of Jeju Island was performed. The soil moisture was calculated with optical images using linearly adjusted Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) polarization images and incident angle. SAR Backscatter data, Analysis Ready Data (ARD) provided by Google Earth Engine (GEE), was used. In the soil moisture processing process, the optical image was applied to normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) by surface reflectance of KOMPSAT-3 satellite images and the land cover map of Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI). When the SAR image and the optical images are fused, the reliability of the soil moisture product can be improved. To validate the soil moisture mapping product, a comparative analysis was conducted with normalized difference water index (NDWI) products by the KOMPSAT-3 image and those of the Landsat-8 satellite. As a result, it was shown that the soil moisture map and NDWI of the study area were slightly negative correlated, whereas NDWI using the KOMPSAT-3 images and the Landsat-8 satellite showed a highly correlated trend. Finally, it will be possible to produce precise soil moisture using KOMPSAT optical images and KOMPSAT SAR images without other external remotely sensed images, if the soil moisture calculation algorithm used in this study is further developed for the KOMPSAT-5 image.

This paper presents the mapping of liquefaction for the Incheon Song-do reclamation area using both the liquefaction potential index(LPI) and the equivalent liquefaction factor of safety(FE). As a result, the mapping of liquefaction based on LPI and FE shows similar distribution pattern. Therefore, the mapping of liquefaction presented in this study will be a convenient index for use when the mapping of liquefaction for the Incheon Song-do reclamation area is drawn up. It will make selection of area that needs specific estimation and areas with adaptation of liquefaction counteraction construction methods for the future reclaimed land with the economical soil investigation.
The study is aimed at extraction of the groundwater potential area using the Geographic Information System. The study was to develop techniques of the thematic mapping such as slope map, geologic map, soil map and suitability mapping for grotential area. There thematic maps were combined and weightages were given to produce suitability map for groundwater potential area. The results of this study are as follows. 1) The 78% of cased wells have releation to lineament coincided with the appraisement point of the suitability map. 2) The 9 sites of 18 test sites produced over than 200 m$^3$/day. The with the highest appraisement point of the suitability map. 3) Suitability map is effective to extract groundwater potential area which can not be extracted from the remotely sensed data. The developed suitability mapping techniques are expected to do as an important tool for exploration and development of the newable and unnewable resources such as groundwater, petroleum etc.

Shear failure in soil is the primary cause of most geotechnical structure failures or instability. Soil water content is a significant factor affecting soil shear strength. In this study, the shear strength of samples with different water contents was tested. The shear strength, cohesion, and internal friction angle decreased with increasing water content. Based on the variation of cohesion and internal friction angle, the water content zone was divided into a high-water content zone and low-water content zone with a threshold water content of 15.05%. Cohesion and internal friction angle have a good linear relationship with water content in both zones. Environmental Scanning Electron Microscopy (ESEM) test presented that the aggregates size of the compacted loess gradually increases with increasing water content. Meanwhile, the clay in the compacted loess forms a matric that envelops around the surface of the aggregates and fills the inter-aggregates pores. A quantitative analysis of bound water and free water under different water contents using a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) test was carried out. The threshold water content between bound water and free water was slightly below the plastic limit, which is consistent with the results of shear strength parameters. Combined with the T2 distributions obtained by NMR, one can define a T2 relaxation time of 1.58 ms as the boundary point for bound water distribution without free water. Finally, the effects of bound water and free water on shear strength parameters were analyzed using linear regression analysis.
Achievements in the real-time soil spectro-photometer are: an improved soil penetrator to ensure a uniform soil surface under high speed conditions, real-time collecting of underground soil reflectance, getting underground soil color images, use of a RTK-GPS, and all units are arranged for compactness. With the soil spectrophotometer, field experiments were conducted in a 0.5 ha paddy field. With the original reflectance, averaging and multiple scatter correction, Kubelka-Munk (KM) transformation as soil absorption, its 1st and 2nd derivatives were calculated. When the spectra was highly correlated with the soil parameters, stepwise regression analysis was conducted. Results include the best prediction models for moisture, soil organic matter (SOM), nitrate nitrogen (NO$_3$-N), pH and electric conductivity (EC), and soil maps obtained by block kriging analysis.
This study emphasized the soil of environmental impact assessment to devise measures to minimize the negative impact of project implementation on the environment. As a series of efforts for impact assessment procedures, a national inventory-based database was established for urban development projects, and three machine learning model performance evaluation as well as soil pollutant concentration distribution mapping were conducted. Here, nine soil pollutants were mapped to the metropolitan area of South Korea using the Random Forest model, which showed the best performance. The results of this study found that concentrations of Zn, F, and Cd were relatively concerned in Seoul, where urbanization is the most active. In addition, in the case of Hg and Cr6+, concentrations were detected below the standard, which was derived from a lack of pollutants such as industrial and industrial complexes that affect contents of heavy metals. A significant correlation between land cover and pollutants was inferred through the spatial distribution mapping of soil pollutants. Through this, it is expected that efficient soil management measures for minimizing soil pollution and planning decisions regarding the location of the project site can be established.

We have analyzed the stability for cut-slopes at main street 3-2 line section in Pa-ju local industrial complex. After studying an additional boring test, laboratory test and face mapping etc., we have determined the extent of reinforcement, slope inclinations and soil strength parameter from the analysis of test results. After changing the inclination of slopes for ground limit and carrying out the analysis of slope stability, we applied the Mass Nailing Method to the site because of need for reinforcement to soil and weathered rock slopes. In slope for soft and hard rock sections, we also reinforced the sections that are difficult to obtain the safety without reinforcement in alteration zone.
