대하 양식장의 생산성 향상을 위한 환경 관리에 관한 연구 II. 저질성상에 따른 환경특성 및 생산성 (Environmental Survey for Productivity Enhancement of Cultured Fleshy Prawn Penaeus chinensis II. Sediment Type-Dependent Environmental Quality and Productivity)

  • 대하 양식에 있어 저질성상에 따른 환경변화를 아질산, 암모니아 및 황화수소와 같은 유해물질을 중심으로 파악하고, 이에 따른 대하의 생존 및 성장 등에 미치는 저질조성의 영향을 검토하여 생산성을 평가하기 위하여 실험실 조건에서 6주 동안 실험하였다. 실험종료시 DO는 sand, soft sand의 단독 혹은 sand, soft sand 및 mud의 50:50 비율의 혼합조건에서는 5.1~5.9mg/l까지 감소하였으나, mud 조건에서는 4.6mg/l까지 감소하였다. 또한, 아질산, 암모니아농도 및 황화수소는 sand, soft sand의 단독 혹은 sand, soft sand 및 mud의 50:50 비율 조건에서 각각 0.07~0.12mg/l, 0.16~0.29mg/l 및 0.009~0.014mg/l까지 증가하였으나, mud 조건에서는 0.15mg/l, 0.36mg/l 및 0.018mg/l로 높은 증가를 나타냈다. 대하의 생존율은 bare와 mud 조건에서 60% 이하의 낮은 생존율을 나타냈으나, sand, soft sand의 단독 혹은 sand, soft sand 및 mud의 50:50 비율의 혼합조건에서는 70%이상을 나타냈다. 저질 성상에 따른 대하의 성장과 사료효율은 bare 조건에서 각각 7.6%와 29.4%을 나타내어 성장과 사료효율이 가장 높은 sand+mud 조건에 비해 유의한 감소를 나타냈다.

액상화와 연질퇴적변형구조의 지질학적 의미 (Geological Significance of Liquefaction and Soft-sediment Deformation Structures)

  • 액상화는 반복적인 전단력 혹은 강한 충격으로 인해 실트-모래로 구성된 미고결 퇴적층내 공극수압이 증가하여 전단강도를 상실함에 따라 미고결퇴적층이 액체처럼 거동하는 현상이다. 액상화는 미고결 퇴적층의 물리적 특성인 입도, 느슨함, 지하수위, 지층의 심도, 연령, 액상화 발달 유무 등과 밀접한 관련이 있으며 지표균열, 사태 및 연질퇴적변형 구조의 형성을 야기한다. 연질퇴적변형구조는 다양한 변형원인(trigger)에 의해 퇴적물의 전단강도가 감소함에 따라 퇴적물의 하중 등과 같은 변형동력(driving forces)이 발생하여 액상화, 요변성과 이에 수반된 유체화로 대표되는 변형기작(deformation mechanism)을 통해 형성된다. 이러한 변형구조는 퇴적작용이나 지진과 같은 지질학적 사건에 의해 발생하기 때문에 퇴적분지에서 발생하였던 지질학적 사건을 이해하는데 있어 중요한 역할을 한다. 이 뿐만 아니라 지진에 의하여 유발된 연질퇴적변형구조는 퇴적동시기성 구조운동을 이해할 수 있으며 지표파열을 수반하지 않는 피해 유발지진(> Mw 5.0)에 대한 고지진정보를 제공한다.

Contribution of Ecological Surveys to Coastal Conservation: A Case in Soft Shore Study

  • Soft shores are particularly vulnerable to human exploitation; however, they exhibit a variety of habitats which provide refuge for a diversity of flora and fauna. This study describes a survey of 13 soft shores in Hong Kong with information on species diversity, sediment characteristics, shore extent, pollution threat, degree of naturalness, linkage with other ecological habitats, and degree of social/economic importance. Data collected were subjected to multivariate statistical analyses, so as to identify shores that have significant ecological status and conservation value for management purposes.

통영해역에 서식하는 아므르불가사리의 분포 특성과 서식처에 따른 먹이 선호도 비교 (Distribution Pattern and Feeding Preference of Asterias amurensis (Echinodermata: Asteriidae) in Tongyeong, Korea)

  • This study examined distributional patterns of Asterias amurensis in Tongyeong, the central South Sea of Korea. The density of the sea star was estimated at 10 chosen sites in the inner and the outer parts of the Tongyeong coast from December 2000. The mean density of the species in this area was $2.4ind./m^{2}$. The seasonal surveys conducted at 3 arbitrary chosen sites (i.e., sea cage, reef and soft sediment) also showed that the abundance of the species at the sea cage site $(density:\;3.6\;ind./m^{2};\;biomass:\;250.7\;gwwt/m^{2})$ was significantly higher than at the reef site $(density:\;1.7\;ind./m^{2};\;biomass:\;63.5\;gwwt/m^{2})$ and the soft sediment site $(density:\;0.4\;ind./m^{2};\;biomass:\;18.9\;gwwt/m^{2})$. Densities were higher at sea cages areas than at reefs and soft bottom sites. At sea cage site, A. amurensis population exhibited a strong aggregated distributional pattern. In contrast, at reef and soft bottom sites, A. amurensis population showed a random distributional pattern. The spatial difference in prey species and its abundance was the primary factor determining the spatial heterogeneity of the sea star in its behavior characteristics. Experiments on the feeding preference indicated that A. amurensis had a strong selectivity on its prey, but this selectivity varied between populations living in different sites. In particular, A. amurensis populations at the reef site showed a strong selectivity on various sessile and mobile animals living in reef areas, suggesting that these animal groups may play a role as "windows for the survival of A. amurensis". These results suggest that the distribution of A. amurensis in Tongyeong is closely associated with abundance of prey species and the bottom composition.

심해저 연약지반용 무한궤도차량의 견인력-슬립 관계에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on Relationship of Tractive Force to Slip for Tracked Vehicle on Deep-sea Soft Sediment)

  • Measuring the ground speed and the rotation speeds of tracks is an easy and realistic method to detect the track slips. It is very advantageous if the slips can be measured and applied to real time control of the vehicle. With a proper speed, the tractive force of a tracked vehicle may be calculated from the vehicle dynamics. For the control of tracked vehicle, the relationship between the slip and the tractive force is necessary. In this paper, a series of drawbar-pull tests, in which slips of two tracks are measured under the variational draw-bar weight, is executed to directly obtain the slip-tractive force relationship. For the purpose of the test, a tractive vehicle model was manufactured, and an artificial soil was simulated by using a bentonite-water mixture.

TBTCl의 저질 및 체내 축적에 따른 대복 Gomphina veneriformis 소화선의 조직학적 반응 (Histological Response of Digestive Gland of Gomphina veneriformis with TBTCl Accumulation in Sediment and Soft Tissue)

  • This study involves a relationship between butyltins concentrations and histopathological changes of the digestive gland in the equilateral venus, Gomphina veneriformis exposed to TBTCl of 0.4, 0.6 and 0.8 ${\mu}g/L$ for 36 weeks. In the sediment, total butyltin (${\sum}BT$) concentration was detected ND~7.54 (0.4 ${\mu}g/L$), ND~9.76 (0.6 ${\mu}g/L$), 1.22~13.13 ${\mu}g/L$ (0.8 ${\mu}g/L$), respectively. Especially, TBT level in 0.8 ${\mu}g/L$ group was the highest for 36 weeks. In the soft tissue, total butyltin (${\sum}BT$) concentration of the exposure group was 10.14~12.75 (control), 479.29~1,286.56 (0.4 ${\mu}g/L$), 563.32~2,154.82 (0.6 ${\mu}g/L$) and 1,317.70~2,132.60 ${\mu}g/L$ (0.8 ${\mu}g/L$), respectively. Ratio of TBT to ${\sum}BT$ of the tissue of 0.8 ${\mu}g/L$ kept the lowest level for 36 weeks. The ${\sum}BT$ concentrations of sediment were correlated with ${\sum}BT$ concentrations in the tissue. In the exposure groups, necrosis and atrophy of columnar epithelial cell and collapse of epithelial layer in the digestive tubule. And there was a reduction in stain affinity of basophilic cell. Such histological degenerations was more severe in digestive tubule of 0.8 ${\mu}g/L$ group.

Paleoseismological implications of liquefaction-induced structures caused by the 2017 Pohang Earthquake

  • During and shortly after the 2017 Pohang Earthquake ($M_w$ 5.4), sand blows were observed around the epicenter for the first time since the beginning of instrumental seismic recording in South Korea. We carried out field surveys plus satellite and drone imagery analyses, resulting in observation of approximately 600 sand blows on Quaternary sediment cover in this area. Most were observed within 3 km of the epicenter, with the farthest being 15 km away. In order to investigate the ground's susceptibility to liquefaction, we conducted a trench study of a 30 m-long sand blow in a rice field 1 km from the earthquake epicenter. The physical characteristics of the liquified sediments (grain size, impermeable barriers, saturation, and low overburden pressure) closely matched the optimum ground conditions for liquefaction. Additionally, we found a series of soft sediment deformation structures (SSDSs) within the trench walls, such as load structures and water-escaped structures. The latter were vertically connected to sand blows on the surface, reflecting seismogenic liquefaction involving subsurface deformation during sand blow formation. This genetic linkage suggests that SSDS research would be useful for identifying prehistoric damage-inducing earthquakes ($M_w$ > 5.0) in South Korea because SSDSs have a lower formation threshold and higher preservational potential than geomorphic markers formed by surface ruptures. Thus, future combined studies of Quaternary surface faults and SSDSs are required to provide reliable paleoseismological information in Korea.

폐쇄성 내만에 있어서 수질$\cdot$저질 상호작용 모델링 (Modeling of Water Quality with Sediment-Water Interaction at Sea Bottom in Semi-enclosed Coastal Waters - Application to Osaka Bay)

  • 본 연구에서는 수층(water body싻 저니의 상호작용을 시뮬레이션하기위해 저질 모델을 구축하였다. 본 연구에서 구축한 모델은, 수층에서 저니층으로의 유기물질의 침강, 그리고 저니층에서 수층으로의 질소와 인의 용출을 상호작용으로 고려한 모델이다. 구축된 모델을 검증하기 위해 실측치를 이용하여 모델 재현성의 검토를 실시하였다. 오사카만을 대상으로 모델에 의해 얻어진 인의 용출속도를 실측치와 비교하였다. 그 결과 계산치와 실측치는 거의 일치하였으며, 계절별 용출속도의 변동 특성이 양호하게 재현되었다 1950년부터 1999년에 걸쳐 약 50년간 수질과 저질의 재현 계산을 실시하여 모델의 재현성과 적용성을 평가하였다. 육지로부터의 오염물질 부하량과 수질의 경계조건, 그리고 3차원 유동모델의 경계조건에 대해서는 계절별 관측치를 이용하여 설정하였다. 계산 결과 질소, 인, 그리고 COD농도 및 장기간에 걸친 수질의 변동특성이 양호하게 재현되었다.

Stress-strain behaviour of reinforced dredged sediment and expanded polystyrenes mixture under cyclic loading

  • Reinforced soil and Expanded Polystyrenes (EPS) mixture (RSEM) is a geomaterial which has many merits, such as light weight, wide strength range, easy for construction, and economic feasibility. It has been widely applied to improve soft ground, solve bridge head jump, fill cavity in pipeline and widen highway. Reutilizing dredged sediment to produce RSEM as earthfill can not only consume a large amount of waste sediment but also significantly reduce the construction cost. Therefore, there is an urgent need understand the basic stress-strain characteristics of reinforced dredged sediment-EPS mixture (RDSEM). A series of cyclic triaxial tests were then carried out on the RDSEM and control clay. The effects of cement content, EPS beads content and confining pressure on the cyclic stress-strain behaviour of RDSEM were analyzed. It is found that the three stages of dynamic stress-strain relationship of ordinary soil, vibration compaction stage, vibration shear stage and vibration failure stage are also applicative for RDSEM. The cyclic stress-strain curves of RDSEM are lower than that of control clay in the vibration compaction stage because of its high moisture content. The slopes of backbone curves of RDSEMs in the vibration shear stage are larger than that of control clay, indicating that the existence of EPS beads provides plastic resistance. With the increase of cement content, the cyclic stress-strain relationship tends to be steeper. Increasing cement content and confining pressure could improve the cyclic strength and cyclic stiffness of RDSEM.

Compressibility of fine-grained sediments based on pore water salinity changes

  • Coastal and offshore structures such as ports and offshore wind farms will often need to be built on fine-grained sediments. Geotechnical properties associated with sediment compressibility are key parameters for marine construction designs especially on soft grounds, which involve clay-mineral dominated fines that can consolidate and settle significantly in response to engineered and environmental loads. We conduct liquid limit tests and 1D consolidation tests with fine-grained soils (silica silt, mica, kaolin and bentonite) and biogenic soils (diatom). The pore fluids for the liquid limit tests include deionized water and a series of brines with NaCl salt concentrations of 0.001 m, 0.01 m, 0.1 m, 0.6 m and 2.0 m, and the pore fluids for the consolidation tests deionized water, 0.01 m, 0.6 m, 2 m. The salt concentrations help the liquid limits of kaolin and bentonite decrease, but those of diatom slightly increase. The silica silt and mica show minimal changes in liquid limit due to salt concentrations. Accordingly, compression indices of soils follow the trend of the liquid limit as the liquid limit determined the initial void ratio of the consolidation test. Diatoms are more likely to be broken than clastic sediments during to loading, and diatom-rich sediment is therefore generally more compressible than clastic-rich sediment.
