  • High series resistance due to the presence of glass frit is one of the major problems for screen printed silicon solar cells. Cells having electrical parameters below the prescribed values are usually rejected during solar module fabrication. Therefore, it is highly desirable to improve the electrical parameters of the silicon solar cells and thereby to increase the overall production yield. It was observed that, the performance of low quality mono-crystalline silicon solar cells made by standard screen printing technology could be improved remarkably by novel surface treatment. We have chemically treated the surface using sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and silver nitrate ($AgNO_3$) solutions. NaOH treatment helps to reduce the series resistance by decreasing the presence of excess glass frit on the top silver grid contact. The $AgNO_3$ treatment is used to reduce the series resistance comes from the deposition of silver on the grids by filling the holes present (if any) within the grid pattern.

  • An effective method for production of glucose was developed using enzymatic hydrolysis of Suwon poplar by the cellulase. Enzymatic hydrolysis of wood is the reaction to produce glucose from wood using enzyme which derives from microorganism. Glucose can be transferred easily to ethanol by fermentation. Ethanol is the starting material for producing acetone, butanol, citric acid and lactic acid. The mechanism of the enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulose are reasonably explained in terms of the sequential action of three different types of enzymes, endo-cellulase, ex-cellulase, and $\beta$ -glucosidase. The goal of this work was to investigate the cellulose hydrolysis pretreated polar with various concentration NaOH, the crystallinity of cellulose, lignin contents and the degree of hydrolysis.

  • The objective of this experiment was to compare the effect of pH-regulated alkaline hydrogen peroxide (AHP) treatment of rice straw with those of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and anhydrous ammonia ($NH_3$) treatments on in sacco digestivility. Three non-lactating ruminally cannulated Holstein cows were fed a diet containing 90% forage and 10% concentrate on a dry matter (DM) basis. The AHP treatment significantly (p<0.05) reduced acid detergent lignin content of the straw, resulting in significant (p<0.05) increase of neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF) and cellulose concentrations. Disappearance rates of DM and NDF of the straw significantly (p<0.05) increased at the incubation time of 24 h. On the other hand, those of ADF and cellulose were significantly (p<0.05) higher at the incubation time of 12 h than those of the others. The effective degradability of DM(EDDM), NDF(EDNDF), ADF(EDADF) and cellulose (EDCE) were determined using in sacco nylon bag technique on the basis of 0.05/h solid outflow rate. The greater differences (p<0.05) of EDDM, EDNDF, EDADF and EDCE were found between AHP treated straw and the others. In general, AHP treatment of the straw recorded higher digestion coefficients than untreated straw as well as NaOH and $NH_3$ treated straws. The results of this study demonstrate that AHP treatment can be used as a effective method for improving the nutritive value of rice straw for ruminants.

  • The antioxidant properties of water extracted polysaccharides (PW), 1%(w/v) NaOH extracted polysaccharides (PN1), and 5%(w/v) NaOH extracted polysaccharides (PN5) were assessed in this paper. PW showed good capability of scavenging $H_2O_2$, anti-lipid peroxidation, reduction power, and scavenging 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH). The maximum values were all observed at the dose of 1 mg/mL sample. As far as the antioxidant activities of PN1 were concerned, the capability of scavenging superoxide radical, chelating metal, and total antioxidation showed higher than those of PN5. When polysaccharide concentration was 1 mg/mL, the 3 index described above were attached 71.8%, 51.6%, and $446.3{\mu}M$ Trolox equivalent, respectively. With respect to PN5, higher capabilities of scavenging hydroxyl free radicals were obtained while the peak of 84.8% was observed at the concentration of 1.0 mg/mL. Moreover, the concentration-dependent influences were characterized in all cases.

  • In this study, we conducted a comparative analysis of the effects of resuscitation after the re-application of mortar with much FA replacement on the degree of resuscitation. Results When NaOH was applied to the top of the mortar where 90% of FA was replaced, and maintained for 24 hours, the degree of resuscitation at $40^{\circ}C$ was completely improved. However, when medium curing was carried out, it showed a higher degree of compression than water or lapping curing at 10 MPa in 28 days. The degree of resuscitation on the 28th day was revived from around 10% of the normal level to about 20~30%, and it was analyzed that it was difficult to achieve the OPC reduction by any method.

  • In this study, we conducted a comparative analysis of the effects of retention time and resuscitation method on the degree of resuscitation after reapplying mortar with much FA replacement. Results After applying NaOH to the top surface of 60 % FA-substituted mortar, the degree of resuscitation at $40^{\circ}C$ was high enough to increase the overall curing time, but there was no significant difference. However, with regard to the curing method, middle curing showed the greatest manifestation, followed by wrapping and underwater curing, but there was no significant difference. The resuscitation level on the 28th of the lumber was found to be revived to about 70~80 % at around 30 % without resuscitation.

  • In this paper, the effects of crosslinking agent and pH controlling agent on adhesive properties and water solubility of water soluble acrylic pressure sensitive adhesives were studied by adding the crosslinking agents or pH controlling agents after the polymerization. the tack, cohesive strength, and peel strength were measured to evaluate adhesive properties. the turbidity was also measured to evaluate water solubility of pressure sensitive adhesives. When crosslinking agent was added less than 0.2 wt%, tack increased and cohesive strength and peel strength decreased with increasing concentration. When crossinking agent was added more than 0.2 wt%, the results were opposited. When pH controlling agent was added, tack and water solubility decreased and peel strength and cohesive strength increased with increasing concentration. the influence of pH controlling agents on adhesive properties and water solubility of pressure sensitive adhesive increased in the order of lithium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide and sodium hydroxide.

  • In comparision with calcium sulphate, the effect of calcium-carbonate, -silicate and -hydroxide on desalinization of tidal saline soil was investigated in a continuous leaching column experiments after mixing with an equivalent amount of Ca to sodium plus magnessium in the saline soil. One half of liming materials was mixed to the top one-tenth of column soil and the remainder was spread on the surface. Results obtained are as follows ; 1. Gypsum made easy to percolate and desaline (Na) tidal marine soil but accumulated magnessium in subsoil. 2. $Ca(OH)_2$, $CaCO_3$, and $CaSO_3$ precipitated Mg in the soil which limes were mixed, but they washed down magnessium more severely from the immediate bellow the limed soil and less from the subsequent soil layers. This leaching was more severer at the treatment of $Ca(OH)_2$and lowest at the treatment of $CaSiO_3$. 3. The alkalinity of lime in addition to the dissociation of exchangeable Na raised pH of limed leached tidal soil and slowed down the percolation rate which retarded desalining Na from limed saline soils. This effect was most severe in the $Ca(OH)_2$ treated soil. 4. pH of leached soils was correlated possitively with exchangeable Na and negatively with exchangeable Mg giving follwing relationship pH= 7.77+0.489 Na/Mg r = 0.845.

  • In order to recover pure alumina from balck dross, precipiatation experiments were done to the NaOH leaching solution of mechanically activated black dross. In this work, hydrogen peroxide was added to the synthic solution as a precipitating agent. Among some variables, the concentration of $H_2O_2$ and the volume ratio of $H_2O_2$ to solution showed a remarkable effect on the precipitation of aluminum hydroxide. At the optimum conditions, most of the aluminate was precipitated. Calcination of the aluminum hydroxide at $1200^{\circ}C$ led to the formation of ${\theta}$ and ${\alpha}$-alumina. The charactistics of the synthesized activated alumina was measured by XRD and EDS. The average particles size of the alumina was $3.73{\mu}m$.

  • Geopolymer cements and geopolymer resins are newly advanced mineral binders that are used in order to reduce the carbon dioxide generation that accompanies cement production. The effect of additives on the compressive strength of geopolymerized class-F fly ash was investigated. Blast furnace slag, calcium hydroxide($Ca(OH)_2$), and silica fume powders were added to fly ash. A geopolymeric reaction was initiated by adding a solution of water glass and sodium hydroxide(NaOH) to the powder mixtures. The compressive strength of pure fly ash cured at room temperature for 28 days was found to be as low as 291 $kgf/cm^{-2}$, which was not a suitable value for use in engineering materials. On the contrary, addition of 20 wt% and 40 wt% of blast furnace slag powders to fly ash increased the compressive strength to 458 $kgf/cm^{-2}$ and 750 $kgf/cm^{-2}$, respectively. 5 wt% addition of $Ca(OH)_2$ increased the compressive strength up to 640 $kgf/cm^{-2}$; further addition of $Ca(OH)_2$ further increased the compressive strength. When 2 wt% of silica fume was added, the compressive strength increased to 577 $kgf/cm^{-2}$; the maximum strength was obtained at 6 wt% addition of silica fume. It was confirmed that the addition of CaO and $SiO_2$ to the fly ash powders was effective at increasing the compressive strength of geopolymerized fly ash.
